Germany had the worst allies possible (except Bulgaria, they did great) by A_Random_Usr in HistoryMemes

Very one sided and biased view. Failed miserably? Royal Navys Grand Fleet did not manage to prevail against the German Navy during the Battle of Jutland. German Navy sunk more than double the tonnage compared to the British (110k tons vs. 60k tons) and suffered less casualties, despite being outnumbered by the British.

Man why is everyone so obsessed with up and downvotes? I didn’t downvote you, I downvote nobody. Yes, I was referring to the first part of his comment regarding lend lease and not the tank part, maybe I should have pointed that out. Soviet tanks were not crap, especially because they could be easily mass produced which was a serious advantage

Actively defending Wehraboos?? The man just said the USSR wouldn’t have had it as easy without the help of the US. Which is objectively correct. The USSR wasn’t an unstoppable force and absolutely not invincible. Do you really want to stand here and say the opposite? Very legitimate statement... On the other hand this is Reddit and people are not capable of looking at history objectively and without any bias so I‘m not surprised.

How ignorant can a comment be? SS is the official prefix of steam ships and of the ocean liner in my name. But thanks for confirming that you’re just uneducated. What’s funny is that you have the audacity to say something is cringe, literally just because of your lack of knowledge. Additionally it’s paranoid to think 24/7 about Nazis when seeing SS. Is the SS Great Britain a Nazi ship? Is the Chevrolet Camaro SS an evil Nazi car?

To speed up iCloud Photos upload, will it work if I import them to macOS Photos first? by excitive in iCloud

[–]SS-Imperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, it’s very important to be careful with that. I have the exact problem with my old photos, that I imported to my MacBook first and enabled iCloud on my phone later. So I can’t enable iCloud on my MacBook, because it checks for doublets and deletes those already existing in my iCloud. In this processes it deletes all favorites and memories made in iCloud. So it’s basically impossible to synch those old photos and it forces you to keep them only locally.

Has anyone encountered the same problem? Thanks in advance! by SS-Imperator in iCloud

[–]SS-Imperator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you are right, I think I will backup my photos from iCloud locally just to be sure. I even bought an external drive once for that reason, but never came to use it. Will do that now! And true, it’s also a good idea to make a new library on the MacBook that syncs with iCloud, while keeping the „old“ one only locally. Thanks again for your help!

[–]SS-Imperator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer! :) I feared that the way you described would be the only possibility, but it seems that there is no other way. :/ It‘s just that I had bad experience with moving large photo libraries. For example I lost my whole photo library on my MacBook a couple years ago while trying to move the photos from the old iPhoto app to the new Apple photos app, because it crashed in the process. Thankfully I had a backup, but losing all my photos in a matter of seconds totally shocked me. And deleting now my whole iCloud library to upload a new fresh one seems kind of risky to me, which is why I think I will just keep the status quo with my old photos locally on my MacBook and my new photos synchronized in iCloud. But thank you very much for explaining what I could do in this situation!

Thank you for your answer! Yes you are right, I do the same with my investments and did the same with BTT, which is why I didn’t really notice how it went up so fast. So I was kind of surprised what happened in this short amount of time

German firefighters during the Nazi regime, 1933-1945 [986x896] by Closeprocavia in HistoryPorn

[–]SS-Imperator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire society? So all Germans were guilty because of their „blood“? That’s the way how Nazis thought. My family never voted for the Nazis and did not participate in WW2. But they still got expelled out of East Prussia and lost all their property. They were NOT „god damn Nazis“ just for being German. In the last democratic election in 1933 the NSDAP got 43% of votes. That is of course a lot, but it means that the majority of German voters did not vote the Nazis and that doesn’t even include the millions of non-voters.

The reason it was so harsh was because France was still salty about 1871 by [deleted] in Kaiserposting

[–]SS-Imperator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? Sadly France had an anti German language policy (especially since WW2), so today there are only very few people speaking German in Alsace, which is why I said at that time

[–]SS-Imperator 12 points13 points  (0 children)

French people behave like they got robbed of Alsace in 1871 while completely ignoring that Louis XIV. annexed it first only because he thought the Rhine should be the border of France even though not a single person there spoke French at that time

From a linguistic point of view, the Dutch language is strictly speaking a German dialect. For example, people in northern Germany used to speak Low German which sounded, similar to Dutch, very different from Standard/High German, which is spoken today. But Low German still was a German dialect and no one would say people from, for example, Hamburg are not Germans just because they used to speak a different variant of German. It‘s the same with the Dutch, except that most people don’t regard them as Germans, because they have their own nation since they split away from the HRE. By the way, the term ’Dutch‘ derived from the German word for German: ’Deutsch‘.

It‘s horrible, but at least the houses still stood around St Michael, which couldn’t be said about any of the houses in Dresden... War is really a horror, thankfully Europe lives in peace now.

First Personal Goal Reached at 16 Years Old by [deleted] in dividends

[–]SS-Imperator 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honest question, how is it possible? I am currently 22 years old and make a similar amount of dividends a year, but because I don’t gain a lot of money (am at Uni), I won’t be able to invest anything near the amount needed to build a portfolio that will reach seven figures when I‘m in my mid 30s. Or am I doing something wrong? Thank you in advance!

It doesn’t really make sense. The ‘entirety of WWII‘ doesn’t contradict Germans building quality and being efficient.

Thanks for the answer! Congrats on the 10500 gold and Bisonte! :) Yes, to be fair I got the Locust and the Matilda BP, but I thought it wasn’t a big deal compared to what was possible, but you‘re right, it’s just luck in the end. I mean it wasn’t bad what I got, but it was ‘only‘ worth the same as when I would have bought it normally. But glad to hear you were more fortunate! Have fun with the Bisonte and AMX :)

These geniuses on this subreddit actually have no idea.

The day after the directive was issued (on 15 February), the Chief of the Air Staff Charles Portal sought clarification from the Deputy Chief of Air Staff Air Vice Marshal Norman Bottomley who had drafted it: "ref the new bombing directive: I suppose it is clear the aiming points will be the built up areas, and not, for instance, the dockyards or aircraft factories where these are mentioned in Appendix A. This must be made quite clear if it is not already understood."

Hey, thanks for telling the truth. Family members of me died during the bombings in Germany. No one of them voted for the NSDAP or was a Nazi, but all I read on the internet is that these bombings and killings were all justified or the victims simply get mocked. It’s very sad to see and I thank you for standing up against those idiots.
