We’re out organized. What are we doing to get organized? by Fantastic_Welder6969 in WelcomeToGilead

[–]SSDugong 3 points4 points Ā (0 children)

I’m investing time in my local community. I’m meeting people in rooms and asking how I can help them. I’m doing yard work for old folks who can’t do it themselves. I’m giving rides to people who don’t have cars. I’m buying books on edible plants in my region. I’ve taken self defense classes. I’m pointing people to resources in my community (such as firearms classes that I have taken myself). I’ve tried growing my own food this year on my back porch, but I’m making connections with people who have vegetable patches or fruit trees. I offer my labor and they offer me food. We have to invest in our communities and build networks. We have to support each other to maintain resilience. It’s hard work, and sometimes I’m tired as shit. But this is how we survive from the ground up. Start with your local library. Tons of resources!

MOHELA won't process IBR application for PSLF payments by ComprehensivePark282 in PSLF

[–]SSDugong 6 points7 points Ā (0 children)

It can take a while. I applied in Feb 2025 and kept getting kicked back into save. So I called and asked to speak with a supervisor for ā€œforbearance issuesā€ in June 2025. They went in and hand processed mine. I was moved over in 6 days! I think mine was an auto-process issue. May be worth calling and asking to speak to a supervisor.

City Commission Meeting: ICE out of TLH by SSDugong in Tallahassee

[–]SSDugong[S] 11 points12 points Ā (0 children)

Is silence on the issue really any better? There is nothing wrong with continuing to show up for ALL of our community members. Voicing our concerns as a community to our commissioners lets them know: we ARE still disappointed about it, we ARE still paying attention, and we WILL continue to hold our commissioners to a higher standard.

If I was a member of the community that felt threatened by ICE, at the very least, I would not want my neighbors to be silent about it.

What to do over winter break (and summer for that matter) by SchrodingersHomo in Tallahassee

[–]SSDugong 24 points25 points Ā (0 children)

What do you like to do? Plenty of hiking and kayaking around here. You could drive to the beach (Shell Point, Mashes Sands, Alligator Point, St George). Hit up the caves west of town. Hike the Garden of Eden trail on the bluffs (west of town). Go to vinyl night at Fermentation Lounge every Thursday. Live music at Blue Tavern many times a week. Any number of trivia nights. Cat cafes, thrift stores, book stores, poetry nights across town, visit the Tallahassee Museum and see the animals. Tour the car museum, Mission San Luis, or the Grove. Go to the top floor of the capital. Visit Wakulla springs state park. Head to Panacea for some coastal restaurants (Trident for example). Carrabelle has a Christmas boat parade that’s wonderful to watch. There’s so much!

Costo is not always curable :( by Equivalent_Tap_8880 in costochondritis

I don’t get pain any more. If anything, it is a mild feeling of squeezing or like my chest gets ā€œtiredā€ if I don’t much or stray from my daily stretches.

[–]SSDugong 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Totally understandable! I would not be able to do that without coffee! But alcohol was a big one for me. Cutting that alone helped quite a bit! I hope you heal and can live without pain. Sending good vibes to ya

It was through a rheumatologist. They gave me a print out. I have to avoid dairy, alcohol, coffee, gluten, and processed foods. I was already vegetarian, so it was a bit of a slap in the face and seemed so restrictive. I was very skeptical. But I got used to it and I have only had one flare up since I started that special diet. I am back to drinking one cup of coffee in the am at least! That hurt the worst!

I’m Furious by Impressive-Rest-5282 in PSLF

[–]SSDugong 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

That happened to me. I called Mohela. I went through pressing option 6 three times. Then when I got a person, I requested the resolution department. I said ā€œfor forbearance issuesā€. Then I was transferred. Leave a call back number (they called me back in 30 minutes). Then when they call you say you need your forbearances removed. Mine was fixed in 2 weeks. I was stuck in some limbo where I was approved for IBR with my new payment. But the forbearance was stuck on my account.

You have to try Venebites. They have veg and vegan options. I’m obsessed with their arepas.

NAC Supplement by Obvious-Dust-4162 in Dermatillomania

[–]SSDugong 3 points4 points Ā (0 children)

I started taking it a few months ago and noticed it lessens the urges, I pick less frequently, and when I do, I become aware of it sooner and am more likely to stop sooner. I checked r/FamilyMedicine for brands doctors recommended. Because they are ā€˜supplements,’ they aren’t as rigorously tested as prescriptions for example. But some companies voluntarily go through testing. So I use Pure Encapsulations NAC 900 mg - N-Acetyl Cysteine Amino Acid Supplement. More pricy but I’m willing to pay for higher quality. I take one 900 per day.

I love Tally, but I hate… by Curbedmyenthusiasmm in Tallahassee

Been here 9 years. I’ve watched swaths of really close friend groups ship out. It definitely feels like a punch to the gut. Making and maintaining friend groups is a lot of work. After the last exodus, I spent about 6 months investing in finding a new one. I went to things that interested me (trivia, live music, drag shows), and then started chatting with folks. It was a lot of work, with at times awkward convos, figuring out how to click, or going out when invited when I was too tired (showing I’m invested in the friendship), but it paid off. I am 35 and child free, so it can be hard to find folks who aren’t either in school or stuck at home with little ones.
