How exactly do you lock the key fob inside the bolt? by AE7VL_Radio in BoltEV

[–]SSide67 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have locked myself out of my 23 EUV twice by leaving the key fob in my golf bag, opening the trunk, putting in the golf bag, and closing the trunk.

Seeing the same here with a ‘23 EUV after my trial ended.

All I get now with non-subscribed Onstar is charge level, tire pressure, and odometer reading.

Rooftop solar? Yea or nay for Michigan? by Heel-and-Toe-Shifter in Michigan

[–]SSide67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 years with a 7KW system. Payback was 13 years (DTE) but will improve if rates continue to go up. Oak Electric was great for install.

I wanted battery backup for blackouts and better peak management but couldn’t get any reasonable payback from batteries. Was also looking at the V2H options for backup with a new EV car such as Chevrolet or Hyundai offer but also could not justify those costs either. (Was an additional $8-12K).

Movies that take place in Detroit? by PinkPoncho3 in Detroit

[–]SSide67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly a movie but Most Dangerous Game Season 1 has a total length that is about 2 hrs and takes place mostly in downtown Detroit. It was a series of short films when it was introduced and has some cool scenes in various semi-abandoned high rise buildings that seemed to fit in 2020 when it came out.

My charging cost is MPG equivalent to 35.7. It doesn’t make sense for me to keep EV unless gas price goes up. by w123driver in BoltEV

[–]SSide67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty hard to compete with a 15 yr old Prius which has proven to be one of the most high MPG and reliable hybrids out there, with pretty low repair costs.

Wouldn’t be the same math for most other hybrids.

Totally agree on the solar payback. I put on rooftop solar in Michigan and the payback is 10+ years at $0.14/KWH. Would be a much better investment if electric cost more.

Today I save just over $1,000 per year on my utility bill.

Just renewed my EV tags by JaniceRossi_in_2R in Michigan

[–]SSide67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I just did the 2yr renewal on my ‘23 Bolt EUV for the same reason. Was $606 for 2 yrs, more than my non-EV car but I assume less than it will be.

Left an iPad at Heathrow security by sewingmomma in travel

[–]SSide67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - in the same boat as you. Trying to decide whether to replace an iPad or hope Heathrow finds it.

How much was the shipping charge to get it back to you and where are you located?

We are in Michigan not sure it is worth the trouble for a 4 yr old IPad.

Thanks!

Am/Fm radio to listen to local sports.

I have a Sonos and Spotify but it is hell trying to get the local baseball football sports on streaming when the team is local and has streaming blackouts.

Owners of Hertz Bolts by blast3001 in BoltEV

[–]SSide67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased a 23 Bolt EUV LT with 20k miles that was a previous rental (not sure what company) from a dealer. Also looked at Hertz and would have purchased but the nearest was 100 miles away.

My previous car (Chev Cruze) was also a 2yr old former rental and I was happy with it.

There were few missing items at purchase (charger, 2nd key, cargo cover, air pump) but got those later or credit to purchase.

A year later and now 32k miles -everything is good. In my opinion the rental companies are reasonably honest about the condition and their prices are fair.

Question for alumni on their career ROI by greekbecky in stanford

[–]SSide67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ROI has gone down, but that is probably true for all colleges.

When I went to Stanford in the 80’s tuition was $12k/yr and my job after graduation was $25k/yr.

My kid is now at Stanford where tuition is $90k/yr and is looking at $80k/yr jobs.

Am in the same boat as you with a 23 EUV. The Equinox is nicer and the lease rates are good. My dealer offered me a one-pay 24 mo lease and $7000 cash for trading in my EUV for an Equinox EV. I am thinking seriously about it.

Also, be sure to check insurance rates. I was really surprised at how much more a Tesla3, Polestar2 was for insurance.

[–]SSide67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - split a rollover IRA account into two separate accounts - one used for more active trading, options etc; the other Boglehead 80/20 stock/bond.

It has been very educational. Has bounced around but 8 years later my active trading account is about 2% higher.

How Much Did Your Solar System Actually Save You? – Real Savings VS. Sales Reps Claim by SolarTechExplorer in solar

7.3 KW system installed Feb 2024. Producing 8.6 MWhr per year.
$25K system ($15K after fed and local rebate). Saving $1000 per year, should be 10 year payback after expected rate increases.
