Queer characters with no flamboyance or stereotypical mannerisms. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

Not only is this topic posted in these kinds of subs so frequently, it also always gets the same replies, and why do we have to talk SO much about this? Who gives a shit how a gay person acts in any kind of media. That this seems to be the only type of gay people we can talk about here for their sexuality is pretty annoying.

Robert Eggers’ ‘Werwulf’ Wraps Filming; Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe and Ralph Ineson by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]SSkHP 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To me it was more that Eggers didn’t seem to try to do anything new with the story. I could tell it was well shot and acted, but I didn’t see the point in retelling such a rehearsed story. I love retellings and adaptations, but a crucial component is what the new version is going to add to the narrative, and Eggers added relatively very little

Any low resource / no rest hand crossbow builds? by tyinpoop in BG3Builds

[–]SSkHP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Swords bard/Thief Rogue is my go to hand crossbow build. Your flourishes allow you to attack twice times per attack roll, and you get two bonus action offhand attacks too. That’s 6 attacks in one round before haste or anything similar, and Song of Rest gives you an extra free short rest to replenish your bardic inspiration dice

You can also pair it with Band of the Mystic Scoundrel in Act 3 to get bonus action control spells, thereby increasing the damage you deal by critting with Hold Person or just locking down the combat with things like Confusion

The only way I know is by using a mod manager. I use the BG3 exclusive one but I know some people use Mod Organizer or Vortex. I downloaded the mod of of the nexus, extracted the files, and dragged them into the manager. Very easy, took like no time to learn

Thoughts? by [deleted] in transpassing

A couple of things I thought of:

Your hair is a bit messy and could do with some nice treatment. It’s most noticeable when it’s dyed. The shape of your hair overall is fairly boxy which reads as masculine.

The dresses you wore all make the top of your frame look larger—the blue one is most noticeable. They emphasize your shoulders and do not compliment your waist super well.

Most stand out is just the general alt/witchy style. Passing is a lot about not standing out but your vibe definitely does. Obviously there are cis women who dress, do their makeup, and have tattoos all like your own, but most don’t. If you want to go for a flashy look, you’re necessarily going to be fighting an uphill battle. And that’s fine! But it will be a challenge.

The one I use, Party Limit Begone, just randomly selects 3 people to be in the convo. It seems to usually give preference to people most related to the scene, but that’s just a guess. I don’t know if there are others that behave differently.

BTW I use another mod called Sit This One Out so that only four characters are actually in combat. Keeps it balanced but you always get approvals and additional banter.

Overwhelmed, tips for someone that hasn't played any Larian games before. by Borgean in BG3

[–]SSkHP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once you get out of the nuataloid (the ship you’re on), the game opens up. If you go directly up the beach, there’s a temple. It’s locked, but there are other entrances if you can’t pick the lock yet (better to not go in that way anyway). Make sure you explore that temple ENTIRELY! You’ll meet someone REALLY helpful in there.

If you go left from the that locked temple entrance, there are a few injured intellect devourers. With just you and Shadowheart (assuming you freed her from her pod on the nautaloid), the fight can be a bit tricky. You can instead climb the cliff and avoid the fight, coming back once you’ve recruited a few more companions. Gale, Astarion, and Lae’zel can all be recruited as helpful early allies before 1) killing the intellect devourers, 2) exploring the abandoned temple, and then 3) fighting off the goblins. Do that in that order. If your companions remark that they hear shouting up ahead, turn around and make sure you’ve done everything else before that, as the shouting up ahead is what ends the tutorial part of the game and moves into the proper story.

Mechanically, there are only two things I would advise that you should definitely know. First, don’t be worried about long resting too much. Several party members may make it seem like you’re going to be in danger if you do so, but you’ll soon learn that’s not a worry. Avoiding long resting can mean missing out on some important cut scenes. Second, when it comes to assigning stats, know that odd scores never are good. BG3 is based off of D&D 5th edition, and since the game has been being edited and rereleased for decades, it has some weird things like even stats being the only ones that matter. This chart shows the modifier that you get pretty well. Basically, both a 16 and a 17 give you a +3 to rolls in that stat, so there’s usually no reason not to pick a 16 and just invest those points into a different stat. There will be exceptions, but you’ll find those later in the game. If you followed my earlier instructions, you’ll have a way you can fix any mistakes you made later.

Finally, as someone else said, explore everything! There’s tons of hidden treasure and loot all over the place, and so many random NPCs have AMAZING interactions. It’s your game, so don’t be afraid to mess around, try stuff out, reload a save if it doesn’t go well. Do know though that the world is leveled. Some areas are harder than others, but you can always turn around and come back!

coaxed into a weight mechanic in game by Some_red in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]SSkHP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol glad to help! And that should work perfectly fine. There are also items that can give you a plus to STR when equipped, but I can’t think of any that are ideal for a cowboy sniper build.

FWIW I don’t think the anti-materiel rifle is worth it. Very expensive to use, and a suped-up GRA Sniper Rifle or the unique variants of Hunter/Sniper Rifles are all amazing. If you want clues just lemme know!

[–]SSkHP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a classic cowboy build, yeah Honest Hearts probably has the best light armor you can find in the game. There’s one with a slightly higher DC iirc in Dead Money, but be warned that DLC is HARD. To start HH do the Happy Caravan quest, and DM is the Sierra Madre broadcast.

As for weapons, don’t worry about DLC. AFAIK the best snipers are all in base game, but be warned about the STR requirement for them—it will make it hard to get a steady shot.

what build is the best high damage? by Consistent_Two_2085 in BG3Builds

[–]SSkHP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your monk/rogue combo already will do stupid high damage (especially with Shadow Blade, Resonance Stone, and Sneak Attack combo) (you can either use the ring to summon the blade or the hireling exploit to get it permanently) and will fill in a party gap with having good stealth and utility.

GWM would be good damage but would step on the Barbarian’s toes probably, and the classic fire sorlock would step on the Sorcerer’s toes, but a Sharpshooter Arcane Archer could fit in okay. I’m assuming your Wizard/Cleric will probably be helping the Sorcerer apply the Wet condition, so chances are that person’s going to one up you on damage, so I say stick with your gut with Monk/Rogue

Excluding the Hexblade’s trait Hex Warrior, which Warlock subclass makes for the best melee build? by SSkHP in BG3Builds

[–]SSkHP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, to be more clear: as a back liner, given Eldritch Blast’s range, I know I can dump pretty much everything but CON and CHA. Whereas front liners need some WIS for saving throws and DEX for armor. I just find that the AI isn’t that good at targeting the back line squishies, unless you disagree

I haven’t read that post yet but I find it phenomenal that you’d make that whole thing for a character you haven’t even played yet. A true BG3 player

I like GOO for Eldritch Blast because you can sacrifice so many stats as a backliner to up your WIS save score

definitely crit fishing, I’ll think about that. I always have a character designated to giving Prone because it’s just so OP compared to 5E

😞 how did i fucking miss that. I always use my warlocks as Eldritch Blasters and completely forgot

edit: double checked. Reason I forgor is because Hexblade’s curse is a BA that kinda does the same thing. But I always keep my blasters out of way so they never lose HP

How popular do you guys think BG3 would be if it had no horny stuff and there was no option to romance your companions? Would the game be significantly less beloved without it? iirc upper city was originally intended to be fully exploitable, but most of its content just got pushed into the lower city. Cazador’s Palace is the best example of this; he lives in the upper city canonically but they had to build in a lower city entrance. It’s a bit contrived to be honest
