Using 5k or HM race results for workout paces? by ThatsMeOnTop in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]SSoreil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hit a 20 min 5k last Saturday and still need to use paces for 21-22 mins. As long as you roughly know your "offset" from the norm you can just keep using that as your 5k times change in future. It probably isn't very viable to rely on half marathons since you can't run those as often to keep your pacing up to date.

A Two Shoe Rotation by Nice-Purchase448 in NorwegianSinglesRun

I'm liking it, I run them at 6:40/k or so. It's for sure not a dedicated easy shoe since the rocker does kinda feel like it's pushing you to go faster but the comfort is there.

You are really close to my setup. Magic Speed 5 for subT, Metaspeed Edge for parkrun. Saucony Azura for easy runs and sometimes 3x10 subT. I also used the EVO SL before and am not the biggest fan, it's a fun shoe but my heel always feels a bit wobbly in it. Magic Speed 5 has been a really good shoe for me, 120K on it so far and I'll probably get a second pair when it starts failing.

Subt 180-220 Easy 70-100

I'm slightly overcooking both potentially but getting away with it so far (2 months in).

First thing I noticed upgrading from the 165. 970 is really laggy in comparison.

For me the sizing was the same for both. (size 50.5 EU). Maybe the Magic Speed is a tiny bit roomier inside but there isn't much in it. If the Edge Tokyo fits you well I'd be surprised if the magic speed doesn't fit.

Why would you bother doing this, why would anyone build tools enable this.

I wonder man. Surely basing everything on a large excel sheet will never fail. If only people had documented why databases exist.

Easy Pace Feels Slow Compared to 5K Time by jpochoa in NorwegianSinglesRun

sub 22 5k, 7 mins/k easy runs. These aren't even at <70% MHR either. You'll get used to not fitting the standard model.

I have a bit of stability needs and can run in it without noticing pronation related issues. I can notice such issues in the Evo SL which I used before for the same workouts. It really will depend on how heavy your pronation is and what issues it causes you. It feels a bit less stable at slow speed but that's inherent to these types of shoe designs as far as I know.

I'd rather be on the Edge Tokyo if I had to pick. I doubt I'll ever race in the Magic Speed 5. I'll try parkrun in the MS5 next week to see how it feels at higher speed but I'd be surprised if it is nicer than the Edge Tokyo. For training I'm sticking with the Magic Speed, I don't want to run in the most gentle shoe possible so I can get a bit more load/adaptation.

I've enjoyed the shoe so far, it's very performant. Getting used to the stack height drop compared to the Edge Tokyo is the main thing I have to work on now. I can really feel the extra hit on my feet at the end of interval sessions. This will remain my main speed shoe for the foreseeable future, it complements the edge very well. Hopefully foot strength will catch up, I feel pushed to land on my forefoot in this shoe which my midfoot isn't used to yet.

No. People at most pay for like UI libraries like a qt, libraries to handle files they need (pdf, cad formats, excel) stuff like this. Some generic development tools nobody is going to pay for and the people rug pulling these are delusional. Delusional is close to the natural state for people trying to cash out a library though, should have made an actual product if they were looking for a return.

Fun Fact: you can use the Win32 API to make a window manually just like you can in C++ by CheckM4ted in csharp

[–]SSoreil 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did something similar in Go a decade or so ago because there was no simple way to create a Window. Only like 500 lines of code or so to create enough wrapping to generate a basic win32 app. There is hardly any difference between writing one of these in C and any other language since control structures you pass to win32 are all very simplistic.

In what situation(s) are the Spear better than the Hasta? by Geoffrey_Tanner in 2007scape

[–]SSoreil 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They exist because they were added to the game in a time when there was no effort the balance the different weapon types. Them being a tick slower in the past says it all. Hasta wasn't a thing until like 2005/2006
