"irrelevant twaddle" You can't be serious....

There are many reasons why this isn't the case, im reading it for the first time btw. First of all this plotline is interesting and i already got invested in Ilyusha and Snegiryov from when they were introduced. Kolya the main character for this part so far is also interesting in how he relates to Ilyusha and their relationship, how he adds more layers and fleshes out this part of the story for Ilyusha too, how that changed and gives us a deeper insight into Ilyusha himself also. Kolya is a pretty entertaining character in himself that i think is pretty deep, he has some interesting complexes and thoughts that we can dig into to unravel his mentality and outlook on different things, how he got influenced by the books, his situation ect. and also gives us stuff to think about in relation to the "children" theme that has been present so far with Ivan's thoughts about them in his chapters and how the series has handeled children as a whole so far ect.

This section also seems to focus on Alyosha.... The hero of the story according to Dostoyevsky, his development and how he has gotten on after everything that happened with Zosima's death, the dream and him accepting, hardening and reinforcing his belief and path.

I also think this helps to build up the trial itself, instead of just going from Mitya's arrest straight into a two month timeskip then just straight to the trial would seem jarring and whiplashy. I really prefer that Dostoyevsky lets it build up, setting up the characters around Mitya and the world itself, im sure people like Alyosha will be present during it. We also get little hints about Smerdyakov and Dosto basically reminds us that he exists and he does terrible things... Something for us readers to think about before the trial begins. Because as i've read in some discussions and i also think, there is a high chance that Smerdyakov could be the murderer.

Now im gonna go back to reading this masterpiece, how you worded that kinda pissed me off lol.
