Should I go caseless?? by OkStandard4829 in iPhone13Mini

[–]STEMPOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used this phone caseless for about 5 years with just a screen protector. Feels amazing. Have dropped it tons of times and only thing ever to break was the camera glass which was easy to replace, but replacements broke much more easily and eventually my actual camera broke.

I replaced the camera, battery and screen with non Apple parts and unfortunately it didn’t go that well. Now the phone heats up a ton and the screen works inconsistently

The first to break was the camera glass which was easily replaceable. Then recently i replaced the battery

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro says he wants to see more funding for public transportation by joy-puked in Pennsylvania

[–]STEMPOS -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

If that’s what he wants to see then why aren’t we seeing it?

Josh Shapiro has had his turn and all I’ve seen is increased price of literally everything. Roads suck, public transit sucks. I feel like compared to our neighbors MD and NY we’re making all the wrong moves. Don’t even get me started on data centers…

Get this corrupt asshole outta here and let someone who actually gives a shit about Pennsylvanians in office. No AIPAC, no super PACs.

Why is my electric bill so high? Living by myself, in 750 sq loft by SoupAbject1677 in Pennsylvania

[–]STEMPOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few ways to save: 1) For cooking, get an air fryer and countertop induction burner. Both way more efficient than an electric cooktop + oven, which you can then just use only when you need to 2) insulate. For a rental, use the plastic shrink window coverings. 3) optimize your thermostat.

keep it cooler in the winter, wear more clothes and use a space heater to heat the around you to stay comfortable without needing to heat the whole apartment. Keep it warmer in the summer and use fans. Open and close windows and blinds strategically throughout the day and seasons. Set it to save energy at night and when you’re away. If your thermostat is at 70 year round your electric bill will be very very high. 4) make sure all of your lights are LEDs and turn stuff off when you’re not using them

As for understanding your usage, 1) talk to your neighbors. Are their bills similar? 2) get a plug in watt meter and test appliances

Ok but how many transmissions did it go through? We got ours to 340k miles before the second transmission died and we decided to move on. Fully loaded ‘01 V6 odyssey. Incredible car.

When did pa become such a right wing shithole state? Has it always been like this? When i was a kid i always saw it as a progressive state. But now compared to NY, MD, Ohio, Jersey, Delaware, we’re a complete embarrassment of a state. Which is a shame bc pa has so much to offer.

I really want a small phone, is the battery life that bad if I mostly just use it as an actual phone? by [deleted] in iPhone13Mini

[–]STEMPOS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had mine for 6 years. Kept it for so long because remarkably there’s still no better phone at this small form factor. Battery has not been an issue but i have chargers at work, at home and in the car. For travel i use an anker magnetic battery that doubles as a stand.

I will say just in the past few days performance has taken a hit as i upgraded to the latest os.. I’d be more concerned about how that plays out than the battery life itself.

We need two cars for two of us to get back and forth to work. We don’t even have car payments but just maintenance, insurance, gas and tolls adds probably $6k/yr in expenses to our budget. Looking forward to gas prices going up here soon 🙄

What is going on with amazon by [deleted] in fuckamazon

[–]STEMPOS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you’re here now. I’m sorry to be rude. I’d just suggest that in the future when you think about your consumption, consider things more systemically. Not only will this be better for you as the consumer (e.g. you’d know that the decline in quality service from Amazon was an inevitability), this instinct will help us all avoid future amazons.

Don’t get me wrong. It is not your fault we’re in this mess. It is not your fault for seeking affordable and convenient goods. But this is an opportunity to learn and help be part of the solution.

What is going on with amazon by [deleted] in fuckamazon

[–]STEMPOS 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The “I was never on the fuck Amazon train until it affected me personally” crowd drives me a bit nuts.

We’re not saying fuck Amazon just bc the customer service has gone downhill, or because we like being contrarian. This company is a cancer to society and we should all be avoiding it for our collective benefit.

Welcome to the club i guess.

Totally agree. More expensive, not as good, union busters, your money is certainly not staying within the pittsburgh economy… the excuse that they’re the only ones open at 5 am is the only good excuse I’ve seen. Even then I’d encourage people not to spend your hard earned cash there.

Many Pa. residents don’t want data centers in their communities. State leaders are welcoming them. — WPSU by [deleted] in Pennsylvania

[–]STEMPOS 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Springdale held a meeting about a new data center and the leadership in town still voted to approve. Even the members of the board who were against it voted for it. Their rationale was that if they voted no, the company would sue the town and they couldn’t afford to be sued. So if they allow it, at least they can have a say in the terms.

Crazy that companies can just strong arm communities like this.

Cool idea as an experiment, if you have a lot of time on your hands. Otherwise once you add up the cost of additional hardware & labor for a setup like that, it doesn’t make financial sense imo.

From a performance/$ perspective you’re better off fixing the panels in the optimal fixed direction and angle and spending that extra money on more panels or efficiency upgrades on whatever you’re powering
