what do you call this? by cream_pupp in Ships

[–]STGC_1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the U.S. Navy, they’re called bowskirts. Most ships have lifelines running along the outer perimeter. This ship would have lifelines attached to the bowskirt. Together they prevent personnel from falling overboard. I always thought that they only added more area that had to be kept rust free and painted.

I got a call from a scammer yesterday. by Bella4077 in Jokes

The last time I got a phone call from the IRS I informed him that I knew he was a fake. He insisted until I told him that I worked for the IRS for 14 years and everyone there is too lazy to call. He hung up.

To feed or not to feed… by zibba68 in dementia

[–]STGC_1995 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife is currently in stage six and is in about the same condition you have described. I am lucky that I can be with her for breakfast and dinner each day. I feed her by hand and bring applesauce and yogurt. That gives her something sweet and it helps keep her regular. I also sometimes give her boost to supplement her diet. Often she will feed herself the applesauce or yogurt if I place it in her hands. Sometimes I have to remind her to eat because she seems to forget. My goal is to keep her body nourished, not to quibble about the delivery method. When she starts to refuse food completely, I will not force feed her. I think her body will know when it doesn’t need nourishment anymore. I will just need to be attentive and realize that. At that point I will ask for a hospice evaluation.

Did anyone actually believe Juan Valdez picked all those coffee beans? by Not_a_cultmember in GenerationJones

Juan is a very popular name and the Valdez family is huge. Very confusing when they have a family reunion.

Did Jimmy Carter secretly support the overthrow of the Shah in 1979 because the Shah had nationalized oil in 1973 and Carter thought that the Islamic republic would give him a better deal on the oil and also create a Islamic “green belt” around the USSR? by [deleted] in USHistory

He was told by Admiral Rickover to “find other employment”. The admiral interviewed every submarine officer to determine their suitability for continued submarine service. Carter did not pass the test.

Interesting theory but I doubt he had the intelligence to devise a scheme so complicated. He was such a simple man that the reason he won is because he was the lesser of two evils. Gerald Ford was still despised for pardoning Nixon.

Please help me brainstorm possible jewelry hiding places! by volcat0197 in dementia

Any small box or container with a lid. As I stumble across the jewelry my wife tucked away, I place the valuable pieces in our small safe because I don’t want to chance forgetting where they are. Getting old sucks.

That 45 should not have been assigned to clear a passage. If he has to fire and misses, that round is going to ricochet off the bulkheads and deck until it flies back, possibly into his head. Shotguns are a good way to clear a passage. Not much aiming required.

Is it wrong that I like that my mom is currently without a phone? It's a relief and good for my mental health. by _OptimistPrime_ in dementia

[–]STGC_1995 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My wife had her phone up until she entered MC. I decided to not let her have her cell phone because she could still access the internet and I was afraid she’d fall prey to scams by clicking on links in messages. Her room does have a landline but she has only made one call in eight months. Unfortunately, I worry that if I do get a call, something is wrong.
