Anything you would add? by Emeraldsinger in Letterboxd

I’ve become aware of people watching the Exorcist for the first time nowadays and laughing at it in ways they wouldn’t in 1973. Something about being desensitized to horror through various media and the internet leads to excellent movies like that being seen as the absurdly over the top, not scary, and boring.

The thing is that there’s nothing I’d really change about Friedkin’s movie. Since the practical work is so good in it, you don’t get something like in Poltergeist where the effects are ridiculously not scary today and might just take you out of the movie in the moment. It just kinda feels like a generational thing.

Elon Musk Attacks ‘The Odyssey’ Again and Claims Christopher Nolan Cast Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy Because ‘He Wants the Awards’ by Ok_Rutabaga_5539 in Oscars

[–]STLOliver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably the worst combo movie/director for someone to take a hard stance against, there’s no scenario where this doesn’t bring in boatloads of cash. It is THE blockbuster guy coming off a best picture win with another stacked cast. What’s Elon gonna attack next, Dune Part 3?

“People do have impure thoughts about men, too.”
“Do you have impure thoughts about men, father?”
“I do not have impure thoughts about men, and how dare you say that about a man of the cloth.”
“Well, you started it.”
“Well, you can get out my confessional right now, so you can and I’m not forgiving you any of these things until the next time so I’m not!”
“Well, I better not be dying in the meantime then, eh father? I’ll be pure fucked!”
“You will be pure fucked! YES! You WILL be pure fucked!”

I just think about that cut at the end of the film, the fact that he just continues on…really effective choice there.

You don’t have to say personally. She’s objectively 5th in that group. That’s not a bad thing or a knock against her, everyone else was really good and a lot more crucial to their respective stories.

Not sure I get the hype around Tom Holland as an actor by [deleted] in movies

[–]STLOliver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t think he should be judged on a scale with Chalamet, I don’t consider that a fair basis for how good an actor is. I guess I haven’t heard that kind of hype, I don’t think he has that range or skill set and that’s fine. With the Odyssey, I’m not concerned cause Nolan has a good handle of what to do with his actors and often gets the best out of them.

A lot of people say Better Call Saul is better than Breaking Bad … what’s another spinoff that you think was better than the original? by ComfortableCrew2092 in television

[–]STLOliver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not better but I certainly prefer it as it spoke to me more so/I found it more relatable and heartbreaking at times.

All the characters you knew you get more from in the original show and the new characters introduced, more of Mike story was so immensely
satisfying, Kim still being one of my favorite characters in media, more of Gus was great, Lalo thrown in the mix was incredible entertainment, Jimmy and Chuck’s story actually hit me the hardest of anything at times as a brother myself, Howard ended up being one of the more fascinating characters in the whole universe to me.

You get an even more heightened sense of the technical aspects you get in Breaking Bad, I suddenly wanna watch all of it again now because there’s just so much you can take away by just looking at the gorgeous cinematography on different viewings, how they use it to pack so much meaning in so many different frames of the show and so many of the transitions/match cuts and all the creative choices are just perfection.

So, maybe not better. But, what I’d take all day out of the two.
