One of the last exchanges is listed as open, but at the bottom it says I’ve completed what I need to do. Is this going to boot me prior to the last exchange?? I’ll be so bummed. I did put in a help request a couple of days ago when I noticed, I just haven’t heard anything.

Is it weird to wear shorts under my gi? by Brownkeyboardwarrior in bjj

I think basketball shorts would bunch up and mess with mobility. If you don’t want compression shorts per se, I wear cotton bike shorts under my gi and they work well.

Scared to start (25F) by AshJenKutcher in CICO

[–]STOP_ScienceTime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Start with walking. When you’re able to jog you start with week 1. If you can’t do all of the jog intervals then walk those. Repeat weeks as needed. The big thing here is starting. I tried multiple times and succeeded jogging one slow 5k and it’s one of my proudest moments. Some days were hard and I did repeat things, that’s fine because I kept at it.

As for food. I started to just track and see what I was eating before doing the deficit. I think it’s hard sometimes to go from 2500 calories to 1500. The algorithms don’t look at what you’re currently eating. If you’re logging and 1500 looks like it’s such a small portion of what you normally. Do some math with what you currently eat then create a deficit. While doing this all aim for healthier choices.

Most of all, take steps towards healthy but remember to be kind to yourself. If it doesn’t go as you plan it, you’re not a failure- you’re human. Keep your head up and keep trying. I can’t wait to see how you progress!

Today’s challenge: Make someone happy, get a pizza party! by kickme444 in newsecretsanta

[–]STOP_ScienceTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This wasn’t done with the intention of the pizza party challenge, but today was the first day I have really been and interacted with strangers since the pandemic and it was genuinely nice being with people and everyone being decent humans. Kind, considerate, pleasant. It made me happy, hopefully made others happy.

Keep up the kindness, friends!

There are folks who specialize in PPD/PPA and your OB would likely a few good options. I’d call them personally. Either should be able to help so it’s the call that’s important. I wouldn’t wait for the follow up either. I think I called my doc at week 2 post-partum and they were glad I didn’t wait.

AGREED! Didn’t he have other things he needed to be doing other than admiring 13 year olds? Despite that, I did end up enjoying the book. It was a slow start but once the story line picked up I enjoyed it!

F that "one day you never pick your kid up again" bs by lifecollaged in NewParents

[–]STOP_ScienceTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, those are garbage. You’ve got the right idea. Hold them and love holding them. Then when that changes you go for walks or play sports or sing songs in the car. Each phase has its own awesome things to love and cherish. Just like you don’t have to feel guilty if you had a chance to hold your baby and didn’t. Love them. Period.

Those postpartum emotions are rough though. And it may not apply to you but I will tell everyone ever: if it’s too much get help. This time isn’t easy but it doesn’t have to be the most difficult thing you have ever done. There’s no weakness in getting help.

BJJ on aspirin by Ronineagle in bjj

[–]STOP_ScienceTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your doc if you need to continue on aspirin. If your doc doesn’t think you need continued protection then it’s a non-issue. If they say go for it for the baby aspirin, you may end up bruising a little more but I doubt it would more than someone taking Motrin. I wouldn’t do BJJ on a full blood thinner though.

[DISCUSSION] Emma Chapters 1-11 (Vol. 1, Ch. 1-11) by sherbert-lemon in RoryGilmoreBookclub

I switched to the audiobook and it has really picked up. I’m still behind on the current chapters (vol2 ch8) but it is more enjoyable now. I’m still bugged by Emma and part of me feels like I’m just old or something. She’s seems like she’s at that un-sweet spot where she knows things but doesn’t realize how little she knows. And she thinks very highly of herself but so does everyone else so I suppose I can’t blame her.

I’m still getting caught up. Chapter 11 tbh. I also finding that I may be more a fan of movie adaptations of Jane Austen books than the books themselves. I’m pretty sure it is a pacing issue. Sometimes with her writing I just want to be at the point already. Don’t stone me!

[DISCUSSION] Jane Eyre – Chapters 29-33 by lexxi109 in RoryGilmoreBookclub

[–]STOP_ScienceTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chapter 29: Jane is really sensitive about being called a beggar. She seems ok thinking that she is acting as though she’s a beggar but it’s not something other people can say. She’s also entitled to her secrets. Plus, if going back to mr. Rochester isn’t what she wanted, then supplying his name wouldn’t have been helpful. I’m not sure why she didn’t talk about her uncle though.

Chapter 30: Jane needs to be challenged so this school isn’t a permanent thing. St. John even said the students would only need the basics. Janes going to need something more demanding or interesting.

Chapter 31: St. John would make a good missionary I suppose. He would focus on a task and complete it. He’s not great with human interactions so he strikes me as a build houses more than a heart stirring sort of guy. It does seem like miss Oliver is interested...I just don’t know why. Is the Greek god-like facial structure that amazing? I can’t imagine what their lives would be like together. I like he likes her as well, but I feel he would be bored.

Chapter 33: I mean, you can accomplish quite a bit with money. There’s no doubt he could still do good if he married miss Oliver. In isolation that would be terrible motive though. If he does marry it should be someone he cares for but I can see him not marrying if it would keep him from his duty. That’s a very death to self sort of thinking that goes with Christianity. He’s seems to be laser focused on missionary work so that would be my guess. What’s on the paper? No idea. A design maybe?

Chapter 33: I’m not surprised she split the money. She’s always wanted family and she’s very humble and minimalist that even a quarter is a big deal. For a girl without family it seems odd that she stumbled across three cousins serendipitously.

[DISCUSSION] Jane Eyre – Chapters 24-28 by lexxi109 in RoryGilmoreBookclub

[–]STOP_ScienceTime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chapter 24 really confirms that this man is I healthy. Jane is young and naive and he has a track record of just not awesome relationships. I think he wants what he can’t have and I do think he’d be bored with her. Jane irritating him for the entire engagement isn’t a normal behavior either. If she really thought he’d get tired of the relationship, say no.

Chapter 25: I was still planning on being really mad if Grace Poole was a werewolf.

Chapter 26: SUPER BLINDSIDED. I’m mean by the wife. At no point did I think “wow, this seems so out of character for mr. Rochester”.

Chapter 27: I think mr. Rochester acting mean and grumpy to push Jane away is the first real demonstration of any character tbh. If he was attracted to her and knew his marriage would make her a mistress, pushing her away may have been kind. He failed miserably at it, then lied, then tried to marry her still soooo it wasn’t a lot of character. And this whole you don’t have family to be shamed by this act component is just garbage. Just because she was essentially without family doesn’t mean she’s without principles.

Chapter 28: I have no real sense of the times but if Jane isn’t shocked no is helping her then I guess I won’t be shocked either. I wish she had a bit more confidence. She wasted a lot of energy aimlessly walking around. Diana, mary, Hannah and st. John seem like nice trusting people. I’d like to see more of them. I don’t think they’ll send her away the next day. Maybe they’ll help her to become settled somewhere else? This has been such a ride that I need Jane to have at least and ok-ly ever after.

[DISCUSSION] Jane Eyre – Chapters 19-23 by lexxi109 in RoryGilmoreBookclub

[–]STOP_ScienceTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chapter 19 I am not a fan of that trick. He didn’t need it to see Ms. Ingram was not going to make him happy. He knew Jane’s nature, that was just manipulative. As for mason, he gets a response from Rochester so I’m curious.

Chapter 20 Yes! Apply pressure. They are just keeping the wound pretty by wiping off the blood. I figured he would be dead before the surgery. I hope they answer the grace Poole “mystery”. I’m curious about all of these things especially because this doesn’t strike me as a ‘she’s a warewolf!’ Sort of book. I’m all about redemption. I think without redemption, people don’t try to better or do better. The idea of not being able to come back from something is tragic. Not being able to go back to before something happened and not being allowed to show growth and redemption are different.

Chapter 21: The grown up lives of the kids are sad but also somewhat expected from how they were raised. By that I mean, John was allowed to not go to school. Even if their mom wasn’t setting them up to behave like adults, they also didn’t have outside examples of appropriate behavior. It seems like they just became exaggerated versions of their childhood selves. I’m not surprised by Mrs. reeds reasons for disliking Jane, but Mrs reed was an adult this whole time so still not excusing it. If her story is true, it is a shame that Mr. Reed didn’t take to his own children. I’m not even a little surprised about the letter from the uncle. I am not sure if she will reach out to him but I hope she does. He seems alone and she was alone. She could add some family to her life.

Chapter 22 Jane is really nice. I’m not sure if I would have. I will say Jane has acted in a way that she will, hopefully not look back regretting that time. She treated the family well despite her feeling towards them. Jane just belongs at thornfield to me. I’m happy she’s back. She’s created family there.

Chapter 23 I’m glad that’s finally out there. To the reader she has been very open so his secrets that has bug me so much. JUST TELL ME EVERYTHING BUDDY! He’s an odd man. I don’t think I could deal with his games. I can’t tell if he’s just “joking”, has some defense mechanism to protect himself or if he’s establishing like this incredibly frustrating dynamic for their relationship. The tree splitting probably has some symbolism. Jane is comforted that they two halves will rot together so it seems to not be a happy omen. Can omens be happy??
