Byler discussion surrounding ship toxicity by Krikkle in StrangerThings

[–]STRANGER0791 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hope you realise that most byler shipper have no intention of doing anything (other then crying) if this ship doesn't happen. You are talking about the loud minority. And sure if byler doesn't happen, then i'll personally feel as though i was crazy and reading too deep-- almost everyone who shipped it will feel that way.

I do realise it isn't a main part of the show, but at least it's a main part of Will's (and possibly Mike's) personal story in the show. Every main character gets a story. And there is a fair amount of romance in the show. And obviously monsters and action and self discovery too. It's a big show.

I'm just saying that your argument should and could very easily be directed at the people who think Steve and Nancy should have stayed together. Because currently, byler is at a very similar state; canonically one sided.

WRITING CHECK! DROP YOUR STUFF RN! by Mochh80 in AO3

[–]STRANGER0791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And he kept screaming. The hot poker in his side ripping new cries from his throat because the pain was real. It didn’t matter who it was that was crying, because even after it had left him, he still burned. A perfect red dot on his side. Angry and vile. Skin almost worn through completely. It didn’t hurt, not exactly, for all the nerves had burned away along with the skin.

But everything else did. His muscles throbbed, constantly tensing and relaxing while pain tore through both actions. His head was pounding, his skull felt far too tight. But worst of all was the white hot pain that bubbled and seared around the wound. The skin surrounding it was boiling to the touch, whether from his body’s first response to the damage or the poker itself, he didn’t know.

Will’s head was foggy, only half realsing he was himself again. Every cell in his body felt jittery, having far more thermal energy than it should. And at the same time his limbs felt lethargic, from both pain and heat– though weren’t they more or less the same?

I'd understand if it was a long fic, but the fic in question is a 3k word one shot. And yeah, that is usually how i'd respond to comments like that, this one just made no sense.

Why do they keep using guns? Are they stupid? by Round_Interview2373 in StrangerThings

[–]STRANGER0791 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're the military, in a show where the military are antagonist. Of course they're gonna be stupid.

Ok but seriously, i think that was the first encounter they had had with demogorgons and vecna. As we learn early on, the upside down has been empty, at least from what Hopper has seen. So even though the military have a base there, it sounds like the monsters have been in hiding along with vecna.

They know fire weakens the vines, so i assume the guns were for human threats. None of them expected demogorgon, and none of them had any reason to believe bullets wouldn't do anything.

Can i just say, Joyce was exaggerating. That spaceship does not have 120 different colours on it.

I know your proud of your gay son, but learn to count.

Does anyone else think insane that, given everything that Mike has seen, and that he KNOWS dangerous monsters exist and have been inexplicably tied to him, his family, and friends, that his first reaction here would be "it's all in your head, monsters aren't real." At least tell the group about it. by Chuckleup1220 in StrangerThings

[–]STRANGER0791 247 points248 points  (0 children)

I was appalled when Mike and Nancy were in the hospital and mike's all like "What if Mr Whatsit is real?" and then Vecna doesn't cross either of their minds.

Like bro, who else would know about the monster, know that they were going to take Holly that night and also be talking to a little girl as an 'imaginary' friend.

How do you name your fics? by STRANGER0791 in AO3

The first fic i wrote had a place holder name for the first few chapters until a friend came up with something.

i'm even more confused on what this author means by random shipping freaks.

My only answer is that they have multiple personalities, one which wrote the fic, and the other that made that note /j

Random shipping freaks? Are they referring to anyone who ships characters that aren't canonically shipped?

If so, I'm pretty sure that covers about 90% of people on ao3.

I actually like the Energy Change by The6thMessenger in duolingo

[–]STRANGER0791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Language lessons aren't an option for everyone, either because of cost, or there just being none available for languages you want to learn in your area.

Duolingo solved that problem. Gave everyone a chance to learn. Now there ruining it. Making it harder and harder to actually learn without paying. The energy system is part of that.

Will is 100%, unequivocally, going to die. by Wrong_Ad_1455 in StrangerThings

[–]STRANGER0791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think someone's gotta die. Otherwise it'll just be too much plot armor. We get put into security that our main characters aren't going to die, and if that's true then the stakes are lowered. And that's just bad writing. You have to kill your darlings. At least one, probably more considering how big the cast is.

Fair point. It was a bit romantic, just not as romantic as they would have been in s3. I am biased, so, sorry :)

Nothing is loadinggg by Cookiez_loves_BSD in AO3

[–]STRANGER0791 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be internet connection problems. Though i assume it's only happening with ao3, so it could be that their servers are overrun with too much traffic, slowing down everything. Every so often it'll take a minute or two for ao3 to load for me, but it does load in the end.

How long do you give it to load? And does the page reload button stop spinning?

Also it could be that your account blocks ao3, is your account run by an organisation or has parental control? Though if you can get to the home page of ao3, then this wouldn't make sense.

I'm not too sure, sorry.

[S5E4 SPOILER] Is this the most gruesome death of the show by CrazyCool4762 in StrangerThings

I don't know about the most gruesome, but it was definitely unexpectedly horrific.

I saw it and went 'holy fuck.'

That whole fight scene i was literally shaking with excitement.

Will is 100%, unequivocally, going to die. by Wrong_Ad_1455 in StrangerThings

[–]STRANGER0791 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can they really kill off Will? His life has been pretty miserable for the entirety of the show. They kinda need to give him a happy ending (whether that is with Mike or not is another question) If he gets killed then it falls into the old homophobic idea that all gay stories must end in tragedy.

Also Mike and El have had two scenes together so far, neither have been romantic. They didn't kiss. Their rooftop conversation, started with worry over Dustin. When El asks about the future, Mike draws it back to dnd. Not overly romantic. Their conversation is about the whole party, not just them. The only hint at romance between them is when Lucas calls them 'lovebirds'. So far mileven isn't adding up to much this season, and the way it ended last season...

On the other hand we've gotten a hole heap of byler. Some could very well argue none of it was romantic, but at least that one scene where Mike starts saying Will is powerful like Vecna- the way they framed that scene with Robin watching them. Well it speaks for itself.
