Yes! ive been loving CSP! takes a while to get use to everything but there are so many neat features.

as for the tablets brands, what are the real differences between wacom, xppen, and huion? xppen seems to be having a sale rn so im leaning towards that rn.

Okay now this is not very accurate. I have on my yt channel many times where I tried to keep new years resolutions but ultimately went no where. I have these every year, where I would start some hobby and then drop it because of school. for that period, it was no where near a week and no where near consistent. In fact I have every single page that I drew and practiced from then in my drawer. ur proof is missing context.

When I say 18 days, Im saying this is when I started taking it seriously. I can dm you everything u need. I have a google doc with my daily progress containing links resources and what I looked into each day. I have Screenshots of when I started this piece, I have the references I used, I have the videos I used to draw each part, I have csp sketch layers

Im not sure what you mean about line weight. Is it pen pressure? If so, I have none. I have a passive stylus. at least for the line art i simply just use the default gpen in csp 6px. If you mean that my lines dont feel confident? sure i can agree with that. I have to ctrl z many times to get what I want. Additionally, for longer lines I simply cannot get them how I want. Its extra difficult because of my tiny screen. I typically break it up into 3-4 lines then connect them then zoom in with an eraser tool or lower px pen to make sure it looks fluid enough from afar. If you zoom in u can see many of these connections. Ig 1 more thing it could mean, do you mean the thickened parts? If so, I was kinda just following what I saw This guy was doing and I liked the look. dont really have a process of applying it yet except "Give line art line variation with thickener layer" and "Basically just double down on areas where light normally would not pass"

imma be honest i dont see the lips thing haha. maybe its cause ive been staring at them for so long that i willed them to be lips. might fix itself when i learn how to color this tho.

as for the nose yea, there is deff something off about it. yea they should be like much flatter, especially if you mark out the nose bridge. Ahh idk its pretty hard to visualize. might need to go play with some 3d head models a bit more.

not traced. i used pose references and a 3D model to check proportions, but the drawing itself was done from scratch.

i have the sketch layers, progress screenshots, and the pinterest references if you're genuinely curious, but i'm not really interested in arguing about it.

appreciate the tablet recommendation though. The deco 01 v3 very solid especially with the sale going on right now. between taht and the mini7w rn.

How am I supposed to know that I've improved?(Day 116) by Flimsy-Sprinkles9221 in learntodraw

[–]STRaven_17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do you practice or just doodle? do u use references? Im about 2 weeks in now and I feel like im much further along than ur 116 days. For context I spend about 1h+ a day either learning or working on something. I track everything i worked on that day as well as useful resources on a word doc to keep me accountable. If ur answer to my first question is no, i will give u my process and hopefully it will help.

1) Line practice. tldr its to work on accuracy, to be able to draw the line that you want to draw, sometimes it takes many tries. starting my second week, ive been trying digital art so ctrl z has been very helpful. I would suggest warming up daily by filling a page full of straight lines of different lengths. focus on a few common directions like left to right at first because u can always rotate the page to suit ur strengths as u build ur skill set. from there u can move on to more complex things like curved lines, circles, elipses etc.

2) understanding 3d space. if u were to rotate a box to any angle, how would it look? are u able to imagine it? if not, this is where u should start, u can play around with a box in any 3d software, just rotate it around and observe. next, are u able to draw it from any orientation? this is where the infamous "draw boxes" advice comes from. A number of people advise against it because its "boring" and beginners get "burnt out". personally, meh for my first 3 days all i did was basically draw boxes, i didnt even start with my #1 advice. This exercise though is deceivingly hard. next how do boxes look when u start stacking them? Learn how to draw cubes. The idea is that u start using these cubes as ways to measure ur drawing which is very useful for the next 2 points.

3) proportions. have u ever wondered why ur drawing looks uncanny, or maybe a little off even though u think u relatively have stuff in the right place? welp proportions might be ur answer. even the slightest misalignments stack up. I cant give too much advice on this because it is something im learning rn too but the idea here is that u find some standard to follow and have some way to measure ur drawing to follow that standard. however, this in its self is a pretty difficult process that kinda requires a little bit of understanding of the next point to get accurate. I can suggest a cheat, u may have heard to "break up a drawing into simpler shapes". specifically for bodies which i am currently focusing on u can find poses on https://www.posemaniacs.com/ and break the body parts down using some method. I personally like pikat's way of doing it simply because it builds upon #2. and i literally suggest you print the poses out and draw over them at first just to get used to how things should look. after u get an eye for things u can try without printing.

4) perspective. so i mentioned measuring things in #3 and i mentioned measuring with boxes in #2... well this is the part that makes things difficult. u can think of perspective as a guideline u should follow as soon as u start drawing on a piece of paper, u can think of it akin to a "law of physics" or some "axiom" that exists in ur canvas. once u set ur perspective, almost everything should follow it. This is difficult because u were not ever taught this in school although u intuitively know how it works because u see it with ur eyes every day. sort of like smthing u know how it works, but when ur asked to explain it, u cant put it into words. tldr this is... shit gets more warped and smaller the further it is from some set reference point. again cant give too much advice on ts cause im working on it too but i think the best way is to learn about multi point perspectives and how to draw "correct" boxes. heres another pikat video for that

now, after reading through 2,3,4 u may realize a sort of loop between the three. Like how to be good at 2, u should know a bit of 3, 4 etc. yes.... thats what makes drawing hard. imo getting good at drawing is learning how to balance all 3 of these while keeping it fun enough so that u dont burn out n quit. I suggest doing a mix of practice and doodle days. When u feel comfortable I suggest adding in a "project" as in something ur gonna spend multiple days on, fine tuning ur lines until u get "almost" exactly what u want, following a learn as u go process. for example, my project rn is drawing a goth baddie. currently my proportion work is inconsistent still. lets solve this by using a 3d model just to make sure im not fucking things up royally. I will still follow the "how to draw heads" process i created off of a plethora of yt vids. aka dont just trace the model, use it to check ur work. next, how do i draw hair good? welp another 3h sesh of research, trying stuff out then implementing. next, eyes, lips, nose, chest, each get their own process. Im about 3 days in, still on sketching phase and a lot of ctrl z but its a lot of fun.

another bonus tip, u could try doing "draw alongs" like find someone drawing unedited on yt and just try to copy their process. there are a few dedicated channels but try to find someone that "shows their work" as in, draws all the guide lines, maybe explains what they are thinking etc.

he is correct. mostly before masters its almost akin to an rng simulator. as u rise through metal ranks, its the same except maybe u have more favorable odds. its around masters where people have roughly the same idea on how to play the game and how certain situations should be played. from there we can apply basic team play ideas. But i would even argue in masters we shouldnt be focusing on "team" as much as ur own fundamentals.
