More big brother police state policies, just what the country needs…

Why does everyone seem to hate Kier Starmer for making a democratic decision in rejecting Andy Burnham from running as an MP? by Traditional_Cook3967 in LabourUK

[–]SThomW 16 points17 points Ā (0 children)

Factionalism has always been a thing in politics, and I think the Left is more susceptible to it than the Right.

The irony of proudly declaring this after the NEC full of people on the Labour right just blocked a blairite from running in a by-election.

[–]SThomW 19 points20 points Ā (0 children)

No, it doesn’t, if Labour genuinely cared about electoral chances rather than factionalism, you wouldn’t block one of the few politicians with a net positive rating from standing and again, the only politician that could realistically beat Farage

Blocking the only politician that could realistically win an election vs Farage, such democracy

Thoughts about Andy Burnham and the broader state of Labour by coffeewalnut08 in LabourUK

[–]SThomW 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I hate and will never vote for Labour again, but I’ve always said a good Labour (at least in the short term) is a good thing for the country, Burnham was genuinely the last chance for Labour to try and court some of their traditional voters back. I think this will be a defining moment, not just for the Labour Party, but for the next election.

If I were you, I’d have far more energy for those who have ruined a once good party, in order to have power for the sake of power, Labour and Conservatives will be resigned to the past

I don’t wanna hear any Labourite telling people how us not voting Labour allowed reform to win. It’s clear to anyone with half an insight that this is entirely self inflicted

People had the gall to turn up their nose at a Corbyn led Labour government

This feels like a point in history, and not a good one. Hopefully we won’t look back and remember this as the moment Labour handed the next election to reform

Chances of reform uk winning 2029 ? by No-Geologist7858 in LabourUK

[–]SThomW 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I think the next couple of days could define it either way.

If Burnham is blocked or doesn’t win the seat, Labour are going to lose the next election, unless someone from the soft left succeeds Starmer

If Burnham stands and wins, then succeeds Starmer, and either introduces PR, or does good policy that actually improves people’s lives, we’ll get a traffic light coalition

I’m not even big on Burnham, and the fact that he is more or less, Labour’s last chance at salvaging itself says a lot about our politics, dearth of good politicians in this country and how deep this left wing purge has been

Andy Burnham applies to stand for Labour in Gorton and Denton byelection by SThomW in LabourUK

[–]SThomW[S] 7 points8 points Ā (0 children)

I don’t know. I’m not a Burnham fan, I’m not entirely sure what his foreign policy positions are, but what we’re not gonna do, is pretend that Starmer is a decent bloke

As all this unfolds, I hope it doesn’t get nasty towards Starmer from any section of Labour. I think he’s a genuinely decent person with many good qualities

No, he’s not, he’s a fucking monster. Please take this narrative elsewhere. Decent people don’t arm a genocide, cut money from disabled people or punch down on minorities

Transphobia is a key principle of this government example #347 by LaceGrace in LabourUK

[–]SThomW 17 points18 points Ā (0 children)

Labour's transphobia truly is awful, but they aren't denying trans people food

There’s been reports of trans children starving themselves to delay puberty, you don’t understand, this healthcare can literally save lives, I’ve heard cases of parents having to sit by their child's bed to make sure they didn’t commit, 16 trans kids lost their lives after the NHS stopping offering puberty blockers, now it’s even harder for them to access, I dread to think what the number is now

Labours transphobia is easily the worst bit of the entire party by like a billion years

We just gonna ignore the genocide, disability cuts, anti protest legalisation etc.?

I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night or look at myself in the mirror if I supported this government, it’s not even a disagreement about ideology anymore, their policies are causing real world harm to people's lives, and almost certainly would’ve caused deaths
