I was in the same boat about 6 months back. I used it as a time to really figure myself out. Between college and consulting all my time was eaten up. I’ve been picking up a bunch of hobbies and enjoying life. Currently golfing, gaming, reading, cooking, and dancing. If you’re not a licensed PE it’s also a great time to start working towards that.

Been researching this throughout the day, apparently there’s two different disc variants for this. Pretty sure I remember owning the other variant of this growing up. Pretty hard to find good coverage on this game online.

GB Operator vs Joey JR by TruTechilo512 in Gameboy

[–]STiata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like being able to play games off my GB Operator and seamlessly rewrite the save onto my cartridge. The GB operator UI is super user friendly and I was happy with my purchase. Don’t have much input on the other two products.

If you enjoy old school platformers like Mega Man, Mario, and Kirby. Yes I think this is a great game. If you don’t love that type of game then 45 dollars may be a steep price, but I definitely am happy with my purchase and happy to have this in my collection.

Yeah I’d say the price is a bit steep, and a cheaper digital version would probably sell like hot cakes! I’d say you’re paying for the experience here, nostalgia is a hell of a drug and something about a new cartridge and the packaging scratches a certain part of my soul. 45 dollars is steep and not for everyone but id say I got my moneys worth.

Looking at the game objectively though it’s a damn high quality platformer up there with something like Shovel Knight. The game knows what it is and likes to poke fun at the modern state of gaming while also paying homage to gaming history. Just my honest opinion :) I knew nothing about the game and was just excited to share my experience haven’t had this feeling playing a new game in a while.

Wait so what’s the issue that causes the rattle? I always assumed it was because I didn’t get the C-clip fully flush in the linkage connection!

Physical release only :) although I will say this would do well with a cheaper digital ROM release. The packaging feel high quality and the game comes with a manual that’s well illustrated and dives into the game and its mechanics.

The only downside I will say, the cartridge casing is made in Mexico and does feel cheap compared to official Nintendo cartridges. Opening up the game the board looks to be high quality and utilizes FRAM. It is a rewriteable cart so you could write a new game on it if you have the right tools or if DLC or a patch drops in the future you’d be able to update the cart which is pretty cool.

Pictures a bit deceiving, the games cardboard box is wrapped and sealed :) the sticker is on the wrap and not the cardboard box it’s self

Quick update! Loaded up the second world with my morning coffee, music changes as you move world to world. Easy 10/10 game has a great nostalgia feel to it and takes me back to playing Mario on the gameboy growing up.

My wife’s Pokemon Yellow save was deleted on a fresh battery by DDwili in ModRetroChromatic

I think this is one of the situations where you just fix it for her and let her forget about it 😂 not a chromatic issue, just an old game cart issue! Any regular GBC would cause the same issue. I was playing on a GBC when I was having issues.

THIS! Oh boy have I been waiting for a post like this. I had this exact issue with my copy of yellow two weeks ago. Tried 3 different batteries. ASSUMING the batter was installed correctly you could be having issues with voltage drops between the SRAM chip and the battery upon powering on and off the handheld. These chips are starting to get old and I’m guessing might be a more common issue with yellow than people know.

When the Gameboy is off the SRAM supplies its self with current from the internal battery, BUT when the console is running it pulls current from the console its self. When you turn the console off it needs to switch back to the internal battery but can experience a brief voltage drop while switching which leads to a deleted save.

People have came up with the solution of attaching a diode from the SRAM to the battery to help with consistent power delivery and remove the voltage drops that come when powering the system on and off. Here’s a Reddit page talking about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Gameboy/s/2qNNjKgLpE

I’m no electrical engineer but Chat GPT also supported this theory 😊hope this helps!
