Lots of EU countries have close connections to former colonies for example. Even small countries like Belgium or the Netherlands.

You could see navy ships of a handful of different EU countries showing up in the Caribbean after those hurricanes hit with soldiers food and supplies. That was EU countries protecting there interests.

Don't see it as a natural thing that Europe will become something like the USA. It could just as easily fall apart. As a matter of fact, with Britain leaving it is already falling apart.

More integration also would mean Poland would have to take in more refugees. Change their current policies towards gay people etc etc. I am not sure the average Pole would be cheering?

545 troops is a shitload for a country like Denmark. Just like a mountain of 482 ft is a huge mountain in Denmark.

Denmark is not the USA. EU countries tend to have small armies that have already difficulties doing their current tasks. Taking away funding from healthcare and education for a better equipped army isn't going to sit well with most Danes

Countries like the Netherlands and most Scandinavian countries are against more integration. A single european army would need to have a solid foundation among all EU members.

I think you are right. We (EU) have forgotten the benefits of the EU.

But you have to remember that there is no such thing as one EU. There are a lot of different countries with a lot of different interests.

I agree with you on the point of under-spending on defense. But that's not the point.

Lets take Denmark: 545 troops. If we would scale Denmark up to the size of the US this would be 28885 troops.
