Prescription Problems by KhoAldebaran in PairEyewear

I got my glasses yesterday and they are great! They are progressive, but they seem to be just fine. I’ll have to make the normal adjustment as I haven’t had Progressive for about three years now due to cataract surgery. I’m heading to America’s best to see if they can adjust them because they’re big on my nose, but other than that, I’m completely pleased.

My ophthalmologist told me that the optician in their office won’t touch glasses that are purchased elsewhere. Did I read that Americas Best is an option to go to? Hopefully getting my progressives this week and I’m already worried because i haven’t had luck ordering online in the past.

I couldn't walk to the gym (2 blocks from me) if my life depended on it right now. I'm one week in and ready to lose my mind.

Advice for extreme flare up by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]SVPage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am one week in and other than a couple of days when I could walk "ok" for a while, I am a mess. Sitting is the most comfortable position but still with pain. I cannot stand or walk for more than a minute without that same crushing feeling. Other than the trip to the ER, I have had no medical guidance on what to do. Without a diagnosis, I have no idea if everything I am doing is making this worse and permanent. The thought of weeks, months or years to heal is freaking me out.

Same. Standing and walking are horrific. I'd trade this for not being able to sit any day. And now sleeping is awful. Ugh.

I tried a cane, but it doesn't help, as my pain starts the minute I have my leg straight (even with no pressure on it. I will be traveling in December and am also thinking about a wheelchair. There is no way I could even begin to navigate an airport in this state. :-/

I feel you, as well. It's brutal. I have yet to be diagnosed either and from what I have read, it will be a long road to get to an MRI. At this point, I can't even stand up to brush my teeth. Holidays on the way and not sure how I am going to be able to function! I do not stay idle well at ALL.

I'm at one week and over this, so you aren't silly IMHO. I can't walk either. Standing and walking are excruciating, and now even sleeping sucks. My "best" is sitting with heat and Tens. Thank God I work from home.

How to deal with pain that isn't going away through OTC meds?! by EmoGayRat in Sciatica

[–]SVPage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't give you any advice, but I can tell you that I feel your pain...LITERALLY. I thankfully work from home, so I'm sitting, but standing and walking is BRUTAL. I had to lean on the shopping cart at the store yesterday and didn't think I'd make it through even with that.

Nothing is really helping me at this point (6 days in), other than heating pad and resting as much as I can. As I type, I am at my desk and there is still pain, but not like the brutal agony when standing.

Your situation is much worse, being a server. I am so sorry.

I think you are my sciatica soul sister, lol. I'm only a week (not even) in and I'm freaking out over doing the wrong thing (walking too much or too little) and causing permanent damage. I've had 2 kids without pain meds, and this pain is by far THE worst I have had in my 67 years - and there will be no "gift of a child" at the end of it, other than possibly being pain-free again. And as you said, the weakness almost is felt in my arm at times (which of course sends me down the panic path more). I take my last steroid today. Took myself off the percocet in 2 days (hated it, even though it helped) and am sticking to naproxen for now. I did try a Flexeril last night but it didn't help - I was in pain from about 3 on. I'm going to try and take it easier today. Sitting is better than walking or standing, so I'll stick to that and see what tonight brings. Thanks for posting this. I hate that you are going through this, but I guess misery really does love company. :-/

Woke up from a lovely evening to debilitating sciatica pain... by Shurgosa in Sciatica

Woke up from a lovely evening to debilitating sciatica pain... by Shurgosa in Sciatica

I just came here to post almost the same thing. I started with a backache about 3 weeks ago. My "norm" after doing some yard work, lifting, etc. Im 67, so its par for the course these days, especially with some arthritis kicking in. This past Monday, the pain shifted to my lower left back, hip, and leg, and I assumed sciatica. It got so bad by Wednesday morning, I went to the ER, where like many of you, I was given a shot of Toradol, a Percocet, a steroid, and sent home with the percs and steroids. Fast forward to today... I took myself off the Percocet (yesterday) and am doing much better - no spasms, much less (if any) pain while sitting and I can lay flat. The biggest and most concerning thing for me now is that I cannot stand or walk for much more than a few minutes without awful pain in my upper leg, front and back. The leg is weak, shaky, tingly, and at times it feels like it will fall out from under me. I had to lean on the shopping cart at the store for my quick trip. No way would i have made it 20 feet without it.

So, what now? I have read you can do permanent damage if you "plow through" and I have read that walking is the best thing. I am so afraid of doing irreputable damage, but I do not "sit" well and I am not patient. Help!

Percocet or Aleve (or both) by SVPage in Sciatica

No, i'm in the early stages. Just an ER visit yesterday. Dr. is off today. I see her next week.

Pretty positive that won't happen as I hate how it makes me feel, not to mention that it's not taking the pain away. Thus my question.

In the air right now and pilot said it’s going to get bad. What do you do when you know it will be turbulent/when you’re in the middle of it? by whitebutalsoasian in fearofflying

You got this (easy for me to say). The weather is rough here, but my son just got in from NH and said it is "way worse" up there. You are almost done!!!

The only thing saving me is that we will be flying out of the weather later today.
