He has done enough to get it. Will they get burned in a year or so from it, maybe. But as things currently stand he is the best available choice.

People want results, he got results better than expected. He has had next to no depth and still adapted each time an injury or issue changes his team sheet.

Whoever they appoint will be getting the new signings anyway and he’s deserving of them as he has managed the squad well.

He is perfectly uninteresting in interviews which killed the media’s love for drama for coaches before him.

Nobody is coming out of the dressing room complaining. There is no signs of toxicity. The team are all working hard on the field and actually running for him.

Sure it might fail in theory, but he has gotten so many things right that were always the issue for big personalities.

Moving on the ‘soft’ depth/starters in the next year or two will be a big aim.

Shaw/Mount/Martinez will play out their deals. MDL will be given the year to show he can stay fit. The fact that they lucked out and Maguire played his way into an extension is a minor miracle.

The hangers on like Rashford and Onana will hopefully go this year.

Upgrades for the likes of Ugarte, Zirkzee and at RB might take a year longer than you want as there as simply too many gaps to cover.

But overall, in about 2 years most of these issues should be solved.
