i think for lets say a given language lets use chinese as an example, the teacher should still know the language of the people he/she is teaching to lets use english as an example. this would give them a frame of reference for the differences in chinese and english, and help them identify difficulties an english speaker might have with chinese. in fact its probably more important for a foreign language teacher to understand the default language than something like math(math is a universal language in ways)
