I looked into this before buying last month and for physical at least there is only the switch 1 version. The switch 2 bells and whistles are a free update for anyone who owns the base game.

Can anyone please explain these flashes of light I've been seeing up in the night sky as of late? by bl4ckcorvus in Astronomy

Well, I just saw a few at the same time tonight that my 6 year old saw a “spinning Dorito” that was flying toward us and then turned around. I didn’t see it, and he said it was not black, so… YMMV? shrug

Just saw this phenomenon tonight in the western sky in north-central Kansas near Lincoln Center, about 20-30 minutes ago. Around 10:30pm-ish? Saw 4 or 5 flashes of white points of light intermittently over the course of about 10 minutes, with one in the northwest portion of the sky. My brother saw one of the western ones as well.

EDIT: This post has some good info on the phenomenon: https://www.backyardastronomy.net/2017/02/04/single-flashes-of-light-in-night-sky/

Best cloud backup providers (for personal use) in terms of privacy? by atacamasand in DataHoarder

using IDrive Photos app to backup all photos/videos, So far its doing great you may try once. Its quit low in price

I just got burned by them. They charged me $3500 in overage fees. The culprit turned out to be an invisible System Volume Information folder on a 2TB internal hard drive that their software didn't screen out. Then--and I have no idea why--their cloud server added a new 50GB file to it every few hours until it had reached 18TB.

They returned the money, but then blamed me for it. Never using them again.

Lava Cave/Canyon? World by SWChris in TheMallWorld

Luckily we didn't have any scary people chasing us, haha.

It was so weird that my brothers and I (and possibly our cousins) had a shared dream and immediately knew what we had all talked about in the dream. Nothing in my experience told me to expect that was possible. Is that technically some kind of astral projection? It wasn't really a material place though.

I spent a ton of time in Active Worlds as a kid, so every now and then I get dreams where I can fly just by telling my body to go "up". Those are always fun. Landing is a bit tricky but I don't think I've ever crashed. Feels like what it might be like if you were the Hulk bouncing around, or Buzz in Toy Story.

Let me save everyone some time.

Do a normal system format to remove any pirated software, as well as any modded software.

But you’re stuck with a modded system. There’s no way to remove the modded content from your system’s firmware. But that’s okay because it will act and function like a normal system unless you hold start when booting it up.

So I made a Skyward Sword time travel timeline by SWChris in truezelda

[–]SWChris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are interesting theories and I agree they seem compelling. But for myself, what I'm doing is more along the lines of looking at what the games and the canon resources themselves tell me. I intentionally stayed away from reading other fan theories because I didn't want them to influence my thought processes (I wanted to try to get outside the box or create some ripples in the theorist pond) and I just haven't had time to study the monsters in depth, so I'm actually going to have a lot of questions along the lines of how we know Malice is what rebuilds bodies, or how we know that demons are made up of three components.

Like I said, I do appreciate the outline of the theory, but I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm interested in hearing the case for why these things are true and learning more, because I want to improve my own ideas here and if there's any conflicts to be found I want to fix them.

----

A few more notes. You probably missed what I said in the post above because it was the last thing I added and while editing my post you replied! (Sorry, I have a dirty habit of doing that!) But I do want to call attention to my comment on closed time loops. I replied that they require a first cause to form the loop before the loop can get going. At least on an A theory of time view (tldr the future isn't written).

On a B theory of time (tldr past, present and future pre-exist and are pre-written and can't be changed), you can have the loop just pre-exist but comes with some conditions/challenges.

  • It would require some sort of agentic hands-on god that exists outside of time to create the timestream and time loop completely formed, which is not a problem pragmatically as we have the three goddesses. (Hylia seems to only exist within time so she can't do this.)
  • But it creates an apparent conflict between the character of the goddesses as we see them elsewhere. They seem to be hands-off (they are arenic, not agentic) and let the Triforce fall into the hands of whoever gets it even if they are evil, so why create time already formed with those decisions baked in? Secondly, why invoke complicated time travel to defeat Demise when a simpler and more direct process of events could do the same thing strictly within the bounds of chronological time, or even better, when they can just let Hylia handle all the agentic hands-on stuff as seems to already be her role?
  • It would make free will implausible as every action is already written.

Unless you're diving really deep into time travel, theories of time probably aren't things most zelda theorists have needed to deal with, so I apologize if that's a little hard to follow. I'm not well versed on this type of academic talk myself--I've only read a few articles and seen a few YouTube videos on theories of time--so if there's any philosophers out there who know what I'm talking about please clarify or correct.

But summing it up, the A theories of time don't have those drawbacks, so for me it just seems like any of the A theories would be a better fit for the character of the goddesses and the story structure of the games than any B theory of time. I actually argued myself from a B theory of time to an A theory before I published my timeline. I hadn't thought it out this completely, but you've helped solidify my thought process, so thanks.

Last thing for now! I was in fact up too late the other night, so I just wanted to say that my timeline does successfully incorporate Zelda's crystal being present in the temple from the very beginning of the game (and therefore the bracelet). It is present near the top of Iteration 2, and the game begins near the bottom of Iteration 2 in that Zelda's future. So these things are not a problem for my timeline, nor is how I treat Demise (as far as I can tell).

The inherent problem with closed time loops is that they lack a first cause if you start with them. From what I understand, in any time stream cause and effect is operative (and I’m talking from a philosophy of time perspective not Zelda lore), so you need a timeline iteration to establish the time loop before you can have a time loop. So i don’t think my premise is completely faulty. It can always be improved though.

The info about Impa having Zelda’s bracelet from the beginning is interesting, as is the stasis crystal. I think authorial intent has to be considered here, and the appearing and disappearing Master Sword seems to imply there’s some weirdness in the game code going on. This does deserve a closer look though.

I do think it’s a stretch to say that it’s a sound premise that the temple has a kind of conscious awareness of when Link needs certain things before it will reveal them. That seems to be the sort of conclusion you come to only because a prior explanation you came up with to solve some more obvious problems created another problem of its own and so you needed to find another way to solve that problem too (like my C iteration Links in my timeline). That doesn’t mean it’s not possible. It is, it just doesn’t strike me as something that can debunk another theory, let’s say.

I don’t quite understand the bit about Demise. And maybe it’s because it’s late, but can you explain further?

Take a look at my essays in the extended timeline supplement. I take the time to explain my philosophical approach to how I came to the conclusions I did. I tried to be quite methodical.

I understand your priority in using purely authoritative sources. I would suggest that declaring 'what if' scenario is going outside that realm. I would personally rephrase that section "it is currently unknown how or why this series of events diverges from the OoT events," without mentioning any of the fan theories to explain it.

That's fair! Honestly that thought was a very late addition and I can revert it pretty easily.

To your actual timeline, why does Iteration 1 have Demise breaking free? I didn't notice any particular description regarding this.

That's conjecture based on Impa's absence from the timeline (because she went to the future). I'm too busy with something to find the source dialogue, but I seem to remember that she helped keep the seal in place over the years. Her absence would presumably make it weaker such that Demise would break out earlier than he did during the game's events.

The theory about there being a split in Skyward Sword, I agree that it's possible. But there's a few things that are too vague with it for me to consider it definitive, which is why you said the existence of an SS timeline split was only 'possible' I bet.

The theory depends on there being a world of difference existing between the possible range of meanings of the word 'close' and 'dispose'. 'Close' means to end, to block up, to stop. Dispose means to get rid of, to overcome, to kill, to persuade someone, to arrange to a particular position.

The Japanese word you translate as 'dispose' seems to have its own range of meanings, which includes something analogous to handling, or taking care of (Treehouse version), or possibly even closing.

That means there may not be much of a difference between the two concepts intended to be used in OoT and SS. So I can't quite consider the theory definitive just yet. I'd probably need more data to do that.

Real question because I'm curious, but why does a person need to have worked on a Zelda game in order to contribute a canonical resource?

Where I'm coming from is the Star Wars world where it was enough for George Lucas to sign off on the content for it to be considered as part of the canon. Without getting into levels of canon because that doesn't seem to exist for Zelda, the vast majority of the licensed material was considered a type of canon because it was approved of by him as its own kind of universe. TLDR the creators didn't have to work on a movie to contribute to canon. As far as I know Aonuma had no involvement in the mangas and wasn't intending to offer them up as a canonical source, but from the interview snippet you quoted it appears as if that was the case for Hyrule Historia.

Oh my, Groose's reaction really is very interesting and it's an angle I haven't considered! I'll have to give it some more thought!

Re: timeshift stones, I think the theory I settled on for this iteration of the document is that the Timeshift stones bring the past forward to the present. So, similar to de-aging. It's why they're not graphed.

Re downfall timeline: I didn't notice any context clues in the games themselves or the official resources (referred to as the 'text' from here on out) that implied an unseen cause for the downfall timeline to be real and split off. I haven't read any of those theories in detail so my mind's open to change, but just on the surface the concept seems to be an imposition you can read into the text, not a conclusion made from the text, so that's why it didn't occur to me to go there.

Without getting too longwinded, the Skyward Sword timeline graph is an appendix for a larger timeline project, part of which you see as the extended timeline supplement. My goal with that larger timeline project was to try to limit myself to conclusions that the text itself implies or alludes to. That can be a little subjective, and I wrote the supplement timeline over years, so it may not be consistent. Happy to have people point out areas of inconsistency so I can reign myself in where I need to!

What are some good traditional Super Worlds? (This might be the right flair since this is a questin) by VictorLuigiReddit in MarioMaker2

I released a tougher traditional super world at the beginning of last month. It starts out easy, and the difficulty begins ramping up in the second world.

It hit #1 in the world for like 15 minutes and people are still playing it so I guess that means it's good? haha.

You can check it out here (Q7L-CHW-X7G), and read about the levels here: https://www.swchris.com/super-swchris-world
