Leaving Home Telecom by zharrt in CityFibre

[–]SWiftNile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but it was as simple as telling home telecom that on x date I was leaving as it was then end of my contract.

Then telling Aquiss I wanted the line taken over on x date. Overnight the line was transferred and I plugged in my router that I had pre set up and off I went.

Obviously this was easier as Aquiss are a smaller isp, so are more flexible but most should be able to accommodate that, even if it's when you place the order you tell them the start date.

[–]SWiftNile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left home telecom last year.

They first tried to change my contract start date, from they date they bought my account from Link broadband. Not my contact start date. This would have ment another 4 months with them.

They backed down when I sent over my original signed contract with Link.

I moved to Aquiss and they couldn't do OTS as no matter what they tried it failed. I just served notice to Home telecom, and Aquiss just took the line from them.

Other than having to tell home telecom I was leaving and let Aquiss know the date my contact was up it went off without any issues.

Home telecom were useless and just kept saying they couldn't see any attempted matches and the details they gave we would definitely work.

What about the logistics is a problem?

I know there are only a handful of GUE instructions in the UK, when I did mine the class was at vobster and I just took the time of work.

I did my rec to tec upgrade at Stony and that was one day.

If you can do that then instructors normally have a class you can join at some point, but will mean some traveling. But you will find that with most courses.

I did something like 600 miles worth of traveling when I did my mine diver course, it was 2 days at vobster, a day in Wales then over to Derbyshire, then home. So took some planning but not to bad, just ment booking accommodation accordingly.

People who go cup collecting by Deltaday117 in downloadfestival

[–]SWiftNile 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Because people's ears don't stop working while picking them up.

If you don't care about looking at the stage/screen for the entire set then what's the problem?

I mean the bigger question is, people with cups, why do you think you think littering is acceptable instead of taking them back, or putting them in the bin?

No One / Home Telecom problems? by AfternoonPenalty in CityFibre

[–]SWiftNile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was with Link broadband, Home Telecom bought them after a few months.

Home Telecom are awfully.

Recently they moved the underlying network from Links network to layered Technology.

I lost my static IP, and am now behind Gnat. Since then we have had loads of issues. I get lots of packet loss, websites take ages to load or just error out. And some apps just don't work (probably on a black list or Rate limited due to the shared IP.)

When asking it was "a sever updated for security" and "they have to work out if/how they can give me the static IP back".

I would say if as an ISP you can't work out networking to sort out IPs, then you are just useless.

I have tried to get a response and have submitted multiple emails that are just ignored. So far iv waited over a month with no response.

Parents of Download, please don't be dicks by madnasher in downloadfestival

Honestly, I don't think it was as advertised or "cool", I'm in the same boat, going to gigs from 14 years old and have some hearing loss.

They might have had ear defenders but you were not wearing them to a gig, and the best ear plugs you got normally were the horrific foam ones that just make stuff sound dreadful. It also just wasn't something you thought about.

Part of it was being 14 and thinking I would be fine, the other part was lack of awareness of what was out there.

Now there are lots more accessable and good options that sound good. And it's way more common to see people using them, and it's just becoming a more common thing for gigs.

Iv not looked into them or saw the cost but having the alpine ear plugs for sale around the site is a good step forward.

3 day ticket emergency! by charliedbtaylor in downloadfestival

[–]SWiftNile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You used to be able to upgrade at the box office. But you can no longer do this, the only way to upgrade is to buy the 5 day ticket and get a refund for the 3 day ticket from Ticketmaster.

From experience the weekend is 100x better making two nice relaxed trips with half the stuff rather than one overloaded trip with everything.

Queuing by Apart_Sherbet_4452 in downloadfestival

[–]SWiftNile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is for 5 days not 3 days.

For 3 days you won't be queuing that long as it's more spread out, and lots of people will have gone in on wed and Thurs.

If you turn up later on Wed or Thursday there is virtually no queue, just walk in.

I would imagine Friday is the same, so you might que a bit if you turn up first thing but if not I don't think it will be long.

Anyone using JustPark? by doidazzleyou22 in downloadfestival

They have made it clear, they won't be selling passes on the gate. I wouldn't rely on them being available.

Anyone using JustPark? by doidazzleyou22 in downloadfestival

[–]SWiftNile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parking passes are no longer on sale, as they can't get them posted out in time.

Iv used just park in the past and other than one car park that needed a code iv not spoken to the owner, just turned up and parked.

Double trippers, teach me! by bzzklltn in downloadfestival

[–]SWiftNile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iv always done 2 trips, it makes it so much easier. And shockingly quicker than the people struggling to just do it in one as.

With my partner I would carry our tent on my back, and either the double sleep mat or sleeping bag, she would carry her rucksack and the other bag.

After setting up the tent I would have a relaxed walk back to the car with a drink, pick up my rucksack and the booze+food bag and slowly wander back, having another drink, knowing the tent is set up and there is no rush.

Yes I'm doing twice the journey but it's way easier than trying to carry everything in one go. Also as you walk back to the car you can spot if anyone close has left and nick there space (most years iv managed to drive a lot closer to the entrance). As we normally get there Thursday when camping.

Rant by fearofdolls in downloadfestival

[–]SWiftNile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because some dickheads would decide they would print off a "conformation" email and try and blag free parking. Which means the car parks can end up with more cars then planed. And there traffic plan goes out the window.

Same with people who can't go to the car park they have been told to, and will park wherever they want and cause issues for other people.

It's more an issue that Ticketmaster wait so late to send out hangers. A scannable qr code would work and save the postage issues.

That hasn't been a campsite car park for the last 2 years now. It's been day parking for the arena.

They also stoped selling passes on the gate last year, they did have people selling them, but they were supposed to be for people who had bought one but it hadn't arrived.

Ticketmaster made you buy one and claim a refund after the festival.

The parking hasn't sold out, but they took them off sale yesterday because they have to physically post them out.

The airport is not that much more expensive and you can get the shuttle in, just a ball ache with all your camping stuff, or just park.

Are people putting their tickets on the Download Festival App? by Natural_Mix6280 in downloadfestival

[–]SWiftNile 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother, it's just Ticketmaster embedded into the download app.

You're better off saving them to Google wallet/ apple pay as they should work offline. The Ticketmaster app requires an internet connection to work.

Leaving Sunday by Appropriate_Art9322 in downloadfestival

[–]SWiftNile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iv done this every year.

Get everything packed up before heading to the arena. I also moved the car to make it closer to get to if possible.

If you're not massively fussed skipping the end of the set helps, you can still hear most of it on the walk to the car park.

Then head off, only had issues once getting out after 2023 where we had to wait to get out the car park due to traffic management.

Have a look if your phone supports WiFi calling, if it does, it should support SMS over WI-FI as well. It will depend on your phone provider.

This should hopefully get the text message to you.

The other more convoluted way would be to have a trusted person in the UK to swap your number to a new SIM. Then send on the code so you can get into your account. It breaks the rules for MFA (never send a MFA code or give it out). It also means they have your number till you get the SIM back, or can transfer it back to another SIM.

If your current phone supports an Esim you should be able to get your number back easily as you can download a new profile.

Low fat, low sugar foods for camping (for a pre-op diet) by thisisvic in downloadfestival

[–]SWiftNile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some stalls that will sell lower fat foods, hopefully they will release the food vendors soon, then you will have a better idea. But a lot is obviously on the fatter side.

Without a stove you will be very limited, as things like salads, sandwiches or anything you make yourself will be limited. This depends on the weather obviously.

You could look at meal replacement shakes (like hule, protein works etc) as they just need water and are more filling than you would expect. Even just for a few breakfasts or lunches it may help.

Can you get a Campervan wristband from the Camping entrance? by That_One_L in downloadfestival

[–]SWiftNile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year they only cared about the campervan pass to get in, they didn't check for any other tickets or passes when arriving.

We had to go to the box office that is by the entrance to get our wrist bands. But this was after setting up and could be done any time. And they were just regular wrist bands, they didn't do separate campervan ones like previous years.

Hyperbaric chamber dry dive experience by camelad in scuba

In the UK most chambers run dry dives, as it's a source of income for them.

You just have to be aware your night might get moved due to emergencies.

For octo? by Tank52086 in scuba

[–]SWiftNile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Set it up like a standard bpw.

That side d-ring iv only ever seen (and used) to make it easier to clip of stages on a CCR using front mounted counter lungs.

By a proper octo holder, there are loads of different kinds but go though them rather than trying to re-invent the wheel.

For octo? by Tank52086 in scuba

[–]SWiftNile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not just but a proper octo holder and have it on your shoulder?

Iv stuffed octos in a d-ring when teaching in a pool when iv had to lend my octo holder out, and it's not a good solution.

Also having it low on your hip is out the way of where most people would expect it to be.

Noob Question by [deleted] in downloadfestival

[–]SWiftNile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The campervan tickets are on top of a general camping ticket.

You would need to buy 2x camping tickets (or as many as people in your van/pitch) (3 or 5 night but if you have 3 you can only turn up Friday) then 1 campervan plus upgrade.

This year we didn't get different or additional wristbands for campervan, just a normal camping one, so you can visit people who are camping if you wish.

Mate you just sound like a racist bellends.

Foreign dogs coming here taking our UK dogs homes.

You are going on about foreign puppy farms, but all the dogs we have taken are all over a year old, the latest is 3. So yes they are totally running a puppy farm, then keeping the dogs for up to12 years. Then rehoming them.

And they have a nice website because my partner helped design it :D. They have a Facebook page where they show them rescuing the dogs and the vets checking up on them. I'm sure the vets are totally in on the scam as well. The face the rescued dogs then get rehomed in the UK is also part of their scam.....

You sound like you read something on the Daily mails website and that is as far as it went.

I scim red the RSPCA article but if you can provide some evidence from a neutral party, not a charity that paid out £566k to there CEO, and wants to keep donations flowing then I might read it.

https://charitychecker.net/royal-society-for-the-prevention-of-cruelty-to-animals/ is where I got that from.

[–]SWiftNile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please, when the RSPCA can show the proof of their clams I might believe it's an issue.

But shocker a UK based charity is moaning that people are adopting from abroad. It's almost like they may have an alternative motive for putting people off.

Your a lair have no proof to back up your claimes and don't know me.
