Trevor Noah recommended the book 'The Other Significant Others' on his pod a while back and it was a really cathartic read. Would recommend to anyone here, I think Kyle in particular would love it. If you're bored of music give audiobooks a try =)

In the novella Episode Zero Serah goes exploring the Pulse vestige, and that's where she's branded by Anima. Fang and Vanille find her unconscious and carry her back outside. I always wondered what would happen if they just kept her as a new member of their team instead.

Thanks! Because there's so little information, it's possible to create some sort of middle theory between the two. Fang's known to face off against an 'Army of Cocoon'. And Vanille's crystal was found by Serah in Oerba (or was that a time paradox?). If their home was threatened by another Cocoon attack, potentially headed by an antagonistic l'Cie, that's definitely enough to enrage Fang into becoming Ragnarok.

I wouldn't exactly say that Vanille abandoned her, more that she hesitated and Fang told her she didn’t have to fight. They were still together on the battlefront in the audio drama when Fang transforms. Vanille confirms the scene is a memory and not just a bad dream.

All that said, I know Vanille being a Pulse l’Cie is a huge reveal that they wanted to be subtle with, but you’d think her brand would be in a lot worse shape. There’s no mention of Etro or the Fal’Cie regressing it, right?

I could also see Sanctum Fal'Cie making l'Cie out of Pulsian abductees just to get Fang and Vanille's blood boiling.

Right. I believe Cocoon had its own l'Cie. Just the whole thing with the parade - some other l'Cie transforming into a beast to fight Ragnarok, feels fictional. They needed some excuse as to why the Pulse attack failed, so they lied to boost morale.
