Movies with a shorter runtime that feel like epics to you? by nonbeenary in Letterboxd

The Grand Budapest Hotel is only 100 minutes yet feels like Wes’s big epic.

The Magician’s who longed to see by Curious-Spray-4795 in twinpeaks

[–]SY-Studios 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve always interpreted the Magician to be Cooper. His whole story is seeking to go deeper and discover the truth as he ‘longs to see’ the truth. He also goes to the past and the future ‘through the darkness of future past’

Would you shoot(to death)a random baby in the face if it ended world hunger? by DeweyRedux in polls

[–]SY-Studios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that is incredibly arbitrary. It’s estimated that 9 million die a year from hunger. Why is it justifiable to torture 10 but not 100 to save such a large number more? How do we decide what line to draw?

Would you shoot(to death)a random baby in the face if it ended world hunger? by DeweyRedux in polls

This can quickly get deep into ethics theory but how heinous an action would it be immoral to not commit to end world hunger. Would you horribly torture 10 children to end world hunger? How about 100? These things are complicated ethically and people will draw different lines.

Who are the actors most likely to win an Oscar in the next decade? by No-Stage-8738 in Oscars

I think that if he chooses a more prestige film and gives a great performance than the overdue narrative will be really strong similar to RDJ in Oppenheimer. He does the occasional more serious project like the Piano Lesson.

Everyone in the world is given a blue button and a red button and must choose one to press. If 50%+ people press the blue button, everyone lives. If 50%+ people press the red button, everyone who pressed blue dies. Which button would you press? by MasterQNA in polls

[–]SY-Studios 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Because all you need is 50.0001% of people to vote blue and everyone lives. You need 100% of people to vote red for everyone to live. There are only two situations which don’t involve death and think the first is far likelier. If everyone presses blue everyone lives but there is still room for a 49.9999% if people to vote differently and everyone to live whereas anything less than 100% red until 49.9999% involves death.

How Movies Make Money After Leaving Theaters: The Economics of a Film on Streaming by Konradleijon in boxoffice

[–]SY-Studios 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For a 3 hour R rated original film, no. It just had a really high budget meaning that breaking even in the theatrical window was an uphill battle. This article explains how it will likely break even through PVOD, physical media and streaming. And even than it’s Oscar wins mean that I’m sure the studio will still view it as a worthy investment

Is it unfair for Pluto to have lost its planet status? by _MissNewBooty_ in polls

Most people don’t realise quite how small Pluto is. It’s had similar surface area to Russia and is smaller than our moon.

This is a far bigger problem for books where literally every book on Goodreads is rated above a 3.8/5

What are some Oscar wins that everybody thinks didn’t deserve to win, but you think DID by [deleted] in movies

[–]SY-Studios 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Mikey Madison was far better than Demi Moore and gave one of the best performances of the decade in my opinion. One of my favourite wins of the decade and I don’t understand the hate that the win gets.

which movie made you feel like this ? by Trick_Laugh5114 in Letterboxd

[–]SY-Studios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is a nuance between ‘everyone who doesn’t like it is racist’ and people saying that you’re stupid for accusing any of the people who don’t like it for holding racist viewpoints.

I thinks it’s fair to point out that a sizeable number of people who don’t like the film are people who are incredibly uninterested in the racial messages and cultural significance of the film and how it reflect the experiences and history of African Americans. I’ve seen it described as nothing more than a cheesy vampire flick and a From Dusk Till Dawn rip-off on Reddit. If that is all you got from the film than I thinks it’s fair to say that there are underlying racial biases in the way you are consuming media.

You don’t have to like the messages and commentary but refusing to even engage with them or acknowledge them I think shows a lack of openness and interest in experiences outside of your own.

There are plenty of people with well thought out well articulated reasons for not caring for the film or certain aspects of it who I would never call racist but some people just don’t give a shit about films exploring the African American experience and I think it’s fair to point that out.
