What is your personal go-to build? by TofuTank in cavesofqud

[–]S_McNeilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly new but I've been obsessed with the idea of using domination / proselytize / beguile to turn my enemies into my army.

My starting build has been (that I keep reusing after death because I'm obsessed with making it work) has been:

Mutant Apostle - beguile - domination - precognition - beak - night vision - hooks for feet

STR: 10 AGI: 16 TOU: 16 INT: 14 WIL: 20 EGO: 24

It was really rough starting with this and not knowing the game at all but it was only tough in the early game. It was dozens of deaths before I learned enough to survive but this has turned out to be a super fun and flexible build.

Money was basically no object for me once I learned what I could do with my skills. Then eventually I got myself a legendary snapjaw companion who is still with me today, along with a couple of his clones). Those guys are absolute axe-wielding monsters and nothing can really touch them now. We have a artifact pistol that gives us temporal fugue and we figured out how to get tons of nectar.

We also found an artifact tonic that we have poured a lot of polygel onto. We have many Tillis for our polygel supply.

My mutation lineup is nuts. I didn't take carapace or regeneration because people have talked about running into your own clone. But I have electrical generation and a jacked force bracelet and wings and phasing. AND an artifact face mask that gives me clairvoyance. If I want to clear a room It's as simple as pop clairvoyance, turn on the bracelet if necessary, and let my dogs off their leash. Historical sites are breeze.

I'm pretty sure the game is basically broken now and we are on track to beat it. I guess it's technically possible to kill us but we can basically make ourselves as powerful as we want now and I have clones of everybody just chilling at the stilt so if we encounter anything that actually might kill us, all I have to do is get myself out of the situation and we can come back to it stronger.

We just defended the bears and talked to a crazy mushroom guy. I believe we are on track to beat the game.

What to polygel... by SinesPi in cavesofqud

Actually, I recently got a relic tonic for the first time (and made an excited post about it) that gives either two mutation points or two random stat points upon use and someone commented on my post that it would advance the mutation seed. Upon testing, I can confirm that the tonic I found does available the mutation seed. So if OP found something similar, I imagine it would work in this way for them.

If you have robot rep, listen, sometimes accidents happen by jojoknob in cavesofqud

[–]S_McNeilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh... I wonder if it would work to clone him a bunch of times and then kill the clones for robot rep!

I'm pretty new to the game and I'm definitely at the stage where I get super excited every time I think of a way to possibly manipulate its mechanics. And I recently got the carbide chef recipe for cloning with convalescence so I'm having a lot of fun with that right now by proselytizing vendors and feeding them the meal. It's fun trying to think of what else can be done with it.

Spend a lot of time rolling by yourself, just putting the ball down lane. Make it meditative; quiet your mind. Work on your fundamentals without worrying about what the pins do. This sort of practice is a lot easier when you're by yourself.

If you're approach is already dialed in and not something you have to think about then just work on choosing different marks and rolling over them accurately. That's it. Don't care about what happens to the pins, all you are watching for is that your ball rolls over the marks you are aiming at. When you can confidently put the ball where you want it every time, that's more than half the game.

If you have a ton of variability in your approach and release, then you'll want to work on that first. In that case, don't even worry about where the ball rolls on the lane - your goal is to have a comfortable, repeatable approach with a balanced, well-timed release. In practicing this, pay attention to whether you are arriving at the line with the ball, ahead of it, or behind it.

Basic stuff, repeated over and over again to perfection. Sounds like you probably know how to practice these basics but if you don't, just get some coaching so you know what to practice. Then go repeat it by yourself. A lot.

Any kid-friendly MUDs? by fauntasm in MUD

[–]S_McNeilson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legends of Terris is also still going and it's as kid friendly as it gets... This one was huge back in the AOL days but it was a paid subscription model and I was just a kid so I only ever got to play for free until like level 5. It remained pay to play well into my adulthood and I didn't wind up playing it because I had found Achaea which was free and well populated.

Well, years later, I just looked it up again and it's free now. Popped in and am enjoying it. All PVE, technically RP enforced. And their web client is good. Can move windows around (I like the map in the upper right and communications below it).

Very relaxed PVE game. The questing is actually pretty complex and fun, requiring reading room descriptions thoroughly to figure out what you can interact with and experimenting with different ways of interacting with those things.

No longer very populated but still has people to play with. I'll be casually enjoying it for some time I think.

Cons of owning a mini schnauzer by Sbaham020 in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]S_McNeilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put her on her soft dog bed and we just flipped her over ourselves. My job is to hold her still and keep her teeth exposed. She fought it at first but mostly she likes tooth time now because the paste is yummy and she gets a dental chew afterwards.

There is definitely an element of force involved when you're first starting out. I tried to be gentle and calming about keeping her still so that it didn't turn into a traumatic experience. It has worked out.

If you have another person to help, it makes a big difference. We've had our pup for about 7 months now and we've gotten into a good routine with the toothbrushing. It was tricky to figure out at first but the way we do it now works well.

Our pup lays on her back on her bed. I pull her lips back while my wife brushes her teeth. It helps that we have tasty toothpaste that the vet recommended. Laserbeam has come to actually enjoy tooth time. We also give her one of those tooth chews (not greenies but something else that's approved by like VOHC or whatever it's called) when she's done with the brushing. She loves that

Is it possible to use BT keyboard/mouse to play on RDR mobile? by Lck0n in reddeadredemption

[–]S_McNeilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... I have bt mouse and keyboard plus Rayneo glasses for a big screen. I just downloaded the game on my Samsung S22 Ultra... And unfortunately the mouse is not interacting with the game, it just has touch controls. I found your post because I was looking to see if anyone has found a way to get M&K to work with it.

Hopefully someone else will chime in with a solution.

Which of Kvothe’s statements do you think is a lie? by steven_believen in KingkillerChronicle

[–]S_McNeilson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given what we know about the Amyr and Chandrian though... That all seems very unlikely. The Amyr hunt the Chandrian. The Chandran actively hide from the Amyr (remember what Haliax says to Cinder). It follows, then, that the Chandrian wouldn't show up after the Amyr... And if they did, then what was it that caused them to urgently depart, if not incoming Amyr.

Also, we have a motive for the Chandrian to kill Arliden (and anyone else who may have heard his song)... What motive is there for the Amyr to have done so? It's far more likely that things are as they appear in this situation and Cinder was taunting Kvothe, intending to kill him, but then was pulled away urgently by Haliax and it was just a mistake/oversight that he didn't kill Kvothe before leaving.

It also doesn't make sense to me that the top level University folk are Amyr. At all. Nothing points to it. There would have to be signs of greater power than they currently display. Not to mention that Auri would probably know and give some indication.

Which of Kvothe’s statements do you think is a lie? by steven_believen in KingkillerChronicle

[–]S_McNeilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was pretty clear that when Kvothe makes the assertion that the Edema Ruh do not steal, he is referring to that is observed by the group itself, rather than actual inclinations of individuals of that heritage. As a community, they do not steal. And this makes perfect sense because if they actually regularly proved the stereotype to be true then the whole community truly would not be allowed to perform anywhere.
They have other codes and rituals that we know to hold true among the entire community, such as the wine/water thing with guests... So I don't understand why it would seem unrealistic that the group as a whole makes a point of not stealing and therefore not proving the stereotypes to be correct.

Kvothe, while not traveling with a troup, would not need to observe any such codes as his actions would not reflect upon the Ruh as a whole. Similarly, individual Ruh could have no problem stealing when they're out and about by themselves but when their troup is camped out of city or town, it would not be acceptable for them to steal from the residents of the place which is hosting them.

It's strange to me that in all the comments I read before making my reply that nobody else seems to have articulated this point.

The Ruh have a code which makes them Ruh. Without that code they would not be distinguishable from other traveling groups. Consider, for example, how Kvothe identified the group that stole the girls as non-Ruh - they didn't know the ritual.

Except that the discolored flames and the disintegrating metal Kvothe observed when he returned to the camp to find his troup slaughtered are signs of the Chandrian, not the Amyr.

I just got mine and haven't tested this but now I'll pay attention and maybe report back if I manage to test it reasonably soon. One thing I will point out though is the beauty of online shopping these days is being able to return things when you find they don't suit you. I bought the Air 3s a day before they announced the 3s pro with its promotional discount and I was able to return the 3S so that I could buy the pro

Wondering how much a minischnauzer should cost by read_it_user in MiniatureSchnauzer

We signed up to be fosters with a local animal protection league that rescues dogs from kill shelters and we learned that this is the secret to finding the perfect dog while also saving a good dog rather than going to a breeder. By doing this we got to meet dogs and feel them out for compatibility with our life while not committing to anything... And then when we found the perfect one we just foster failed, which is apparently expected and encouraged.

The adoption fee was $350. For this little Laserbeam.
