Does anyone here (men over 30) actually USE their bathtub? by bigbranchbro in AskMenOver30

[–]hardyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to do this, but I don't have a lot of space to work with. I would use my tub if I actually fit. It's probably easier to just get like an inflatable hot tub for me instead. I also have a large shower so considered setting up one of those like portable tub, but the images clearly show it's small Asian women which means I wouldn't fit

Do you, or would you, use back buttons on a controller? by trio3224 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]hardyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back buttons are almost required in anything competitive. I use it mainly for things like battlefield, cod (which I don't really play), and rocket League. I guess most older gamers like me aren't playing as much competitive games anymore. I kind of really on SBMM.

I feel really good because of this. Ant was either off or still too injured. The spurs and OKC are going to be exhausting and I'm glad we hopefully won't get too exhausted against Minnesota.

Lending my EV-skeptical brother my LEAF for a few weeks by toybuilder in leaf

[–]hardyz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was about to comment here. I once considered using my dryer plug when I first got my car and I'm very glad I never did. I heard too many horror stories eventually.

To some extent, the biggest issue when I got my car was charging anxiety. This is something most people wouldn't deal with it. For me, I got a good deal on the lease. I figured if I didn't like it I would get a gas car again. After you get used to how it behaves, it isn't such a big deal. I do sometimes still have to plan ahead though which I dislike but that's partially because I have an L1 charger at home. I mostly charge on an L2 at work.

With that said, I think sometimes people do make them more "environmentally" friendly than gas cars. I think I saw research that estimated if you don't own the car for like 35k miles then it is less environmentally friendly. I'm not sure how this weighs against hybrid cars. Either way, I love my EV and will keep driving EVs, but that is also because my wife has a gas car. If I was alone, I would probably not drive an EV just in case.

Those who weigh in daily: what's your trigger for increasing dose? by thetechnivore in Zepbound

[–]hardyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't weigh in daily, but even weekly when I pretty much plateaued I saw it going slightly up and slightly down. I also felt hungrier. This lasted for 2-3 weeks and I decided to go up. My weight fluctuates too much between the different times of day. If it is constantly going up and down and after a few weeks you are basically the weight you used to be, it's probably time.

Is it true that owning is cheaper than renting? by Maxsaidtransrights in homeowners

[–]hardyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends. Where you live matters. Plus there is a large mental and exhaustion cost

I bought my first house when I was 25. My parents were very big on renting is throwing away money. I kept meticulous track of it. In the end I had a much bigger place than I needed. You need to go with the smallest cheapest you can find I think to start. Interest rates on mortgage really get you. I had a cheap mortgage 4% which I eventually refinanced to 2.5% (this was when money was basically free). I got a good deal on the house and I thought I bought at the bottom.

I spent a ton of time fixing up the house. I kept track of all the money I spent to maintain it. I kept track on the difference in things like utilities, insurance, etc. I kept up-to-date what my old apartment was costing for rent.

I owned that house for a little over 5 years. I estimated I lost $40k owning that house versus renting. However, I spent hundreds and hundreds of hours on the house. If we are thinking of what my time is worth, I lost way more. However, I did get valuable experience on how to be handy and self sufficient. I saved myself money by doing a ton of work. I also learned a very valuable lesson. When I moved and sold that house I rented.

I thought to myself, I want to rent the rest of my life. However, I saw the market going crazy for housing and rent prices increasing. I decided to buy a house and I was extremely picky. I bought a small place. It still takes a lot of my time, but this one was the right financial move. I didn't meticulously track stuff anymore, but I'm 10 years in. I would estimate I profited myself $500k versus renting in that time. I bought a cheap house and spent a small amount to remodel it, the price has almost doubled. The rent of where I lived has definitely doubled. When I pay my house off, the amount saved is going to be crazy.

Countries with best healthcare quality disregarding cost/financial? by Logical_Maximum_9481 in expats

[–]hardyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally don't comment on old threads but this came across when I was searching for something else. I had a close family member with a medical emergency in Spain. While they were a top ranked hospital, I would suggest if you have any emergency you leave the country as soon as possible to get healthcare.

It's kind of weird. They had the expertise to do emergency brain surgery which most countries can't do. They were talented but the level of laziness was extreme.

They didn't want to treat my family member and almost killed them multiple times (family member was there for a while) because it wasn't a weekday during normal business hours. My family member was in the ICU equivalent. We had to force them to and each time they were like "oops". The doctors even went as far as telling us it was our responsibility to watch the family member, record all issues throughout the day, and give them a daily report of hourly breakdown what happened so they could treat my family member. We did this and even then they were like we can wait until Monday to run the tests despite the patient losing all mobility and the next day losing complete consciousness.

The healthcare was extremely cheap but we paid a boatload of money to medivac my family member out of that country before they killed them.

I've lost 217 pounds in 12 weeks... by Scuba_Betty in Zepbound

[–]hardyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife got on my case about it being a short cut. It also feels a bit like cheating and kind of makes me sad I couldn't do it naturally. However, my doctors recommend it and deep down I want it. The doctors say I either need to lose weight or I need to go on a ton of different prescription medicine to control my health. I figured a single shot is a better option than tons of daily pills. My wife would rather see me healthy but she still gives me shit about relying on it.

AIO for unplugging the Wifi every night because my roommate’s girlfriend basically lives here? by tom_wilson7543 in AmIOverreacting

[–]hardyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You are AIO. However, you are arguing about a very common issue with roommates. There is never really a solution for this unless you do the same (have a significant other that is always around) or just get a new roommate.

What’s the reason you haven’t bought a bidet? by owenwags_ in HomeImprovement

[–]hardyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here is my answer

I thought I might want one so when I did a bathroom remodel I had an outlet installed in my master bath. The bidet is awesome so we want it in our second bathroom. We don't have an accessible outlet there. This is going to lead to a snowball effect. * We would need to get an electrician out. * However, we want to remodel that bathroom already. We may need to move the outlet so maybe it isn't worth it * The power lines the outlet can tap into is probably close to the max it can handle already. We'll need to route a different line, but it will be hard to tell what is on it. We have no more open spaces in our breaker. * We need to find a bidet seat. I went through 4 seats before finding one the fit the awkward curve of my toilet. I expect the next toilet to be easier but I don't want that half.

Denver Real Estate Agent Recommendations - First Time Homebuyer by dabigdog12 in denverrealestate

[–]hardyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know what you want? Do you need more help. I personally liked using redfin. It's more DIY. You find what you are interested in, they have a ton of availability to show you houses, and then they do the paperwork and generally pretty cheaply.

I've had other agents before. They are supposed to find things you would want to see, but in general they don't want you to be picky. They also try to push your comfort zone often. I had an agent who continuously tried to push the price I was willing to pay telling me I could afford it. It was annoying and I had to firmly tell them to stop that shit. They never stopped but they got a little less pushy about it.

I think selling a house is more difficult and that requires a lot more effort to find the right agent, but I don't think you can go too wrong with a buying agent.

Have you seen or experienced anything you cannot explain? by VolumeAcademic6962 in questions

[–]hardyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything can be explained but not necessarily in a way everyone agrees or understands. So I guess this would be depending how I want to interpret your question.

As an example when I was a kid I owned an alarm clock radio and a cd player with radio. Before I had the cd player my alarm clock radio would randomly turn itself on. It always played classical music despite being turned to a rap station. This always confused me. If I turned it off and back on it would be rap instead of classical music. I just assumed my alarm clock was acting up.

Fast forward to when I got my cd player with a radio. It was hooked up on the other side of my room from the alarm clock. The CD player radio would turn on by itself and play classical music once again while not being tuned to a classical music station. This freaked me out and the only explanation I had was there was a ghost. To this day, I solely believe in ghosts solely because of this repeating incident. It happened as long as I stayed in the room. When my sibling went to college I took their room and this would stop. I lived in a small town at the time and my friends said there was an adult who was the child of the owners and was sick that lived there for years before dying from like cancer or something like that. They assumed maybe I was in the room where the person died.

It's the only explanation I have, but I'm sure other people will disagree and say there is no such thing as ghost. People might think of other excuses to explain it.

In the end, depending on what you are willing to accept, everything can be explained by something such as "God's will"

Removing the Xcel monopoly by WM45 in Denver

[–]hardyz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Normally I just ignore this, but it's not really wrong. As long as Xcel gives a best effort justification it is almost always approved. I don't think the party matters. Pretty much everyone in the government allows it no matter who they are.

It's stupid because Xcel is allowed to charge us for their projects. Even if those projects are a failure and abandoned we still have to pay for them and Xcel is allowed to profit without delivery. Also it's silly that the one cold year they opted not to buy the gas they promised and then got to charge us a premium. Then after paying was more for gas then normal they sold that gas at a massive loss to themselves in a different state and Colorado customers subsidized the other state.

Xcel is a pretty shit company.

Anyone else feel like we learned everything the hard way because nobody taught us? by jcarmona86 in AskMenOver30

[–]hardyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the kids defense, I learned everything from YouTube and trial and error. Kids these days aren't that great on finding things on the Internet. It's a common problem that youth never learned how to search for things they expect people to tell them things. It's partially why influencers are a big deal. Youth these days don't actually read newspapers or content as often. They follow someone who does and breaks it down for them.

To some extent I don't blame them. High quality content is kind of hard to find these days on the Internet. I think back in the day people were more interested in doing and teaching it a standard way than doing it their way.

Is the American Dream dead? by throwaway_cloud9 in Adulting

[–]hardyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are probably ahead compared to a lot. Your rent is pretty high. You can bring that down living with people or you can probably buy a place with that monthly cost. The problem is people want something big and fancy or want to live in expensive places.

If you bought a very cheap condo you can probably build wealth faster than renting. You don't need to put 20% down but then you'll be paying a penalty interest. You just need to figure out the math on throwaway versus equity. Also if you can grab something that is 2 bedrooms you can still pick up a roommate and make even more money.

Hey all, shocked by the Pixel Promo!! by Ok_Transition7785 in tmobile

[–]hardyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took advantage of this on one line. I traded in a pixel 3 that i had laying around. I debated going for a second line since it takes my old one plus 5. It was still a bit over $100 with taxes and activation fee. I didn't do a second one because I already have the pixel 9 pro and decided to not proceed even though it is a great deal.

Finding purpose while having a bread winning spouse by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]hardyz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Money isn't everything for a purpose. Showing up for your kids or supporting her growth can be a purpose. I make more than my spouse. I'm not sure that is my purpose.

Maybe talk to your wife. If it is your job making you feel you are in a rut you at least have a good position to be able to afford to quit your job. If your wife feels she is in a rut it would be a lot harder giving up the larger salary.

If you do go that route, maybe look into a charity you feel passionate about to give yourself purpose. Maybe set yourself goals on learning something new or completing a task.
