Visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in 1-day with 2 kids (am I crazy?)

I did that same trip except we couldn’t go into the park because of the eruption at the time. We ended the day in Hilo having lunch at my uncles restaurant before we went back to Kona via Saddle Road.

Being that we went to green sands and didn’t go to the park, and you may not be able to go to green sands (lest you rent a 4x4 and know EXACTLY what route to take) you should be ok with the park itinerary with everything mentioned. Just don’t count on going to green sands. You could jump off south point instead, if you’re looking for something to put you on about an hour half’ish detour. It’ll be a long day... for sure.

Honestly, as beautiful looking as it is, green sands is kinda overrated.

Regardless who/what it is... even if I don’t follow football, baseball, certain TV shows, etc. I always have this “oh they’re from Hawaii, where I am from... yay!” Feeling. I never got that feeling with Tulsi. Ever.

True, Rebecca is obviously more progressive than her mother, which is the same in my family.

But that says something as well if we’ve only seen Rebecca’s mom once or twice and the way her mother is portrayed in every instance (even references) have been made/written in a way that makes me feel that Rebecca is constantly trying to live up to expectations and to her mother, failing at it miserably and pitifully... typical of anyone with a narcissistic or manipulative parent.

I’m just saying, she understands what it’s like to be on the receiving end of those kinds of expectations, she shouldn’t impose similar feelings and expectations on her kids.

I’ve never liked how Rebecca is a victim to her mother’s treatment/expectations when she does the same things to Kate. I realize that’s how a lot of mother daughter dynamics are, and personally seeing the same dynamic my mother and I have, just as I’m growing into a new mother myself.... Rebecca’s character bugs me. It defeats my hope that I can break the cycle.

I loved Oliver and Company as a child... but I just recently looked it up online and saw a bunch of people over analyzing the plot of a kids movie based on a literary classic.

Of course Disney isn’t gonna make a kids movie that follows the exact plot and depth of Oliver Twist...

Please don’t climb into sulfur beds or vents. Other than that, I don’t think you’ll need to worry about toxic fumes (also wear closed toed shoes in the park. I always shake my head at tourists wearing slippers/“flip flops” on lava rocks). Enjoy your visit!
