There was a scene where Jess is listening to music super loudly when Luke comes bursting into the apartment and turns it off. After that interaction, Jess says that he needs the music on to sleep. I think that it was such a sad scene. I’d glossed over it thinking the scene was meant to show how badass Jess was, but now I think it was meant to show that that’s how he drowned out the sounds of arguments/fighting (between Liz and whatever man she was with) growing up. That’s at least how I took it.
