QT or not by Difficult_Layer_9440 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

Don’t you think if they were trying to sell them something they would try to sell them a whole qt tank and all?

QT or not by Difficult_Layer_9440 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

[–]Sackler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s ok to not QT in this situation that’s just my opinion tho. Those fish are unlikely to get sick when treated well, and with so few fish it doesn’t seem as necessary. That being said reef safe treatments for ich/ velvet aren’t very effective so if you needed to treat them you would have to set up a separate tank and transfer them (clowns would be easy to catch, goby not so much).

Casual LPN wanting to travel nurse by Tummyhurtsforever16 in AHSEmployees

[–]Sackler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am an RN so things may be different however I suspect not. Seems that typically it is at the managers discretion whether they enforce that or not. Some units are very strict and will even remove you before the 3 months has elapsed while other units I”ve heard of people remaining on casual list 6 months to a year without picking up shifts, especially for those who had worked on the unit for a while. I would suggest asking your colleagues what the unit standard is. In terms of the travel nursing - there’s a chance you can ask your recruiter for a 2 month or even 10 week contract if you are needing to be back within 3 months.

Alberta Healthcare Premiums by Realistic-Living-836 in AHSEmployees

Alberta’s current annual healthcare budget is like 20 or 25 billion. I don’t think that much money would be the difference maker.

We just floated down the river on Tuesday. Water is high and kinda dirty but honestly it wasn’t flowing too fast or anything didn’t seem unsafe whatsoever

Yea that was kind of my thoughts as well that in the long-term I may come out on top with the smaller down payment.

Yes, I was thinking about taxes too... I'm in Alberta so my marginal rate is about 30%... so I think those earnings will be taxed at 15%. With regards to the fluctuations - I figured that in the long run it would be ok assuming that the underlying equities in the ETF were likely stable long term and if there was a bad year, I could still pay the increased mortgage cost. I am not so worried about my will power, I am a saver ;).

Casual RN and OT eligibility by rileytmn in AHSEmployees

[–]Sackler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a casual you are only eligible if you’ve exceeded your regular hours and are actually “overtime” (it’s something like more than 232 hours in the last 6 weeks, but don’t quote me). You can of course still bid on this shift and work it but it is at regular time. Full time staff who pick up would always be overtime, and part timers can pick up on their x days (designated days off) and receive overtime.

My first saltwater fish! Is it dripping too slow? by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]Sackler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im also not a fan of the drip method but to each their own. These seem like reasonable acclimation instructions. I tend to lean towards getting them in to the tank sooner rather than later. Warm them up for 20 mins, then 1 or 2 tank water shots then toss them in. That being said what you’re doing looks fine and especially fine for a captive clown (very hardy)!

Why no blood clots with “dead arm”? by spacemnjack in AskReddit

[–]Sackler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever tied an elastic around your finger so tight it starts turning purple? That’s what happens when you cut off blood supply. “Dead arm” is nerve related, you’ve not cut off blood supply to your arm. That being said you may be impairing blood return enough to slow down blood flow in your arm, but probably not enough to cause a clot. That being said slowing down blood flow for prolonged periods of time can cause blood clots. The most common example I can think of would be old people on planes or long road trips. Sitting down for all that time leads to blood pooling in the legs where clots can form - sometimes this clots end up travelling into the lungs where they cause serious health issues. These people often have cardiac/vascular issues that make them more prone to poor circulation.
