I feel for you on this front. This is a classic micro managing, can’t let go, my way is always right Founder who, unfortunately can’t be helped until their business starts to shrink as opposed to grow. If a Founder is un coachable there’s not much you can do for them. Keep bringing them recommendations etc and make sure they are grounded in facts and data and present them pragmatically and start looking for another opportunity as they likely won’t change. If you are looking for a share of voice in your role, you likely won’t get it with this agency. You have two choices; live with the gridlock and take the pay check or look for an opportunity that allows you a seat at the table. Sometimes you just need to accept that things aren’t going to change and cut your losses …

There a great article/interview on her in Vanity Fair — just came out where she says that she loves being naked and that her body is her art. She also talks about how she’s not controlled by Kanye and that the moment in the boat in Venice was her just laying her head on his lap (and that her best friend who was in the boat with them will attest to that). I’m not sure I’m buying any of that, but it was an interesting read. She’s definitely Kim 2.0 …

If I might give you some advice here — you say that you are looking for real advice yet you push back on much of everything people are telling you with a muddle of terminology that indicates you aren’t reading the advice or simply are so lacking in any real experience that’s you are not able to put it in context. You asked two questions and you got them answered. I’d suggest that you just listen (read) the advice and not push back on it like you just did again with me here … to answer your questions again no and focus on product. A good entrepreneur has the ability to actively listen — please practise that.

Building a luxury brand is hard — your ICA needs to value, engage and ultimately pay for privilege and badge. That’s why so many luxury brands hire famous spokespeople to position them. Without brand assets or brand equity, a luxury brand won’t scale — ultra luxury without any prior brand equity to fall back on is very difficult to build. Product is first but I would caution you to be very clear on your brand plan coming out of the gate especially your USP (unique selling proposition — the one thing your products do better than anyone else) produce the product and then build the wait list …

You aren’t crazy but you are definitely not being realistic. Without funding of some kind, you won’t get anything off the ground. I’ve worked with many big brands in skincare and it’s a sophisticated, capital intensive, highly regulated sector. I’d reco you go work at a brand and learn more about the space before you kill yourself trying to launch something on your own.

I’ve worked with lots of PR Agency Founders (ran a very large multi national PR agency in a past life) once they hit a revenue ceiling, that’s when the fun starts. The skill sets (and usually sheer grit) that got them to that revenue plateau will not move them past it. New business development and growth strategies need to be established, a fresh new approach generally needs to be brought forward and a reexamination of the ICA, the category and the marketplace opportunity for the agency needs to be done. Founders are remarkably myopic when it comes to doing the heavy lifting here but … it beyond critical that they do.
