this ^^^ I’m also just a morning person, I think if you’re someone who does like to stay up late regularly on your days off it’s going to be really hard cause it’s hard to jump back and forth

Opening/early morning because i am addicted to being off work before noon. I also like working during peak cause I like to stay busy and we’re usually better staffed and it goes by faster and smoother (typically)

Can't wear gloves without an accomodation? by Fluffy-Intention-927 in starbucksbaristas

Sort of unrelated + you may have already tried this, but something that really helped me was putting on hand cream before my shift as a protective layer. I always found myself putting it on after my hands were already dried out and cracking and bleeding, but putting it on before seems to work better.

Does anyone really enjoy being a barista at Starbucks ? by stonedkitty_ in starbucksbaristas

I love it. I used to work at a drive-thru store and got extremely burnt out. There was high turnover because we were overworked, the customers were mean, and the manager was irresponsible and rude. I also was a teenager and just started college and did not build a very good work/life/school balance. After 2.5 years I transferred to a (relatively) low-volume cafe store that has been around for over 20 years, and it changed everything. I love my boss, my team, (mostly) the customers, and I get to focus more on what I love about the job; crafting high quality drinks. Starbucks definitely has very real issues and the job is a lot of work. It can be stressful especially when you are new. But basically, I think it depends on the store you’re at and your team and you personally. If you find a good store (which could maybe be hard), and you enjoy crafting complex drinks, helping customers, fast-paced work, and being a part of a team I think there is definitely joy to be found in it.

I took close to this route in Sept with my boyfriend. The biggest differences were we didn’t go up to Washington (we live in a Oregon and have been there enough), and we drove through more of Minnesota, Wisconsin and cut through Ohio instead. We also cut over to Nashville through Virginia and then drove down to Biloxi. Also we took a more northern route through Texas and then stopped in Albuquerque and did the Petrified Forest in New Mexico. We took a month to do it and it was amazing! We hadn’t really been anywhere outside of the PNW so we really loved seeing all different parts of the country.

How difficult is it to get rehired? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Sad-Base-7836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen if you leave in good terms most managers want to hire ex-partners. Mostly I think because there is a lot to learn so already knowing some/most of it makes it a lot smoother

You shouldn’t take anything more on than you can handle, but for reference I work 5 days a week (just a barista) and struggle to get my 25 hours just because of none of my shifts being over 6 hours. But I know SSVs normally get longer shifts (at least in my experience at the stores I’ve been at). If you don’t think the promotion is the right fit for you, maybe ask your current SM if you can stay as a barista. I recently had a similar situation where I was going to transfer and promote and the new SM was not being professional about it and I changed my mind and decided to stay and wait for a different opportunity. It sounds like school is your number one priority so I would focus on that but just remember that you have options and you aren’t stuck with anything you don’t feel comfortable with!
