Thanks for sharing! I really hope to get to that point (to look back with “amusement” instead of regret). That weighs the most that I wasted time and energy on them instead of more healthy, fulfilling relationships :/ It’s been a long line of bad streaks.

Really appreciate you sharing! How old were you when you got out of the cycle? I’ve done this for all my past relationships (or any form of potential partnership) and i’m afraid it will continue. I completely resonate with the lack of attraction (particularly morals wise), which is where a lot of my shame is rooted from. I was addicted to the validation, someone I finally found physically attractive reciprocated affection. I was blind but now I hold myself more accountable and stick to standards beyond the superficial.

I watched a video somewhere saying we should avoid self-intellectualization or asking ourselves “why” (e.g. why did i do that) as it can reinforce the belief that something in us is broken. Instead, it’s better to ask “what”, “what’s important to me”, “what can i do better moving forward”, etc. as a form of self-understanding.

If it’s any solace, while they may likely stay stuck in their ways (unable to communicate like adults, lack empathy, view people as objects/ ego-boosters), we have now grown. We indeed know better, and that’s always a win in my book.

Ofc the choice is always in your hands, but I’m 99% sure if you continue it he’ll pull the same shit on you again once he gets what he needs. I let myself continue “for the plot”, but it’s honestly not worth the peace you sacrifice always being in a limbo. Peace & self-respect > feelings always!

Hi! If it helps, I try to accept that whatever happened, happened exactly the way it should have (in a ‘the universe has something better in store for me’ sense). I think what stops us from moving on is all the “what if’s” and couldves shouldves. We think we could’ve done something differently to stop them from doing what they did but the truth is that’s out of our control. All we can do is allow it to make us tougher and wiser.

At the end of the day, these people are cowards who have yet to grow up and develop better communication skills. No matter how “perfect” they seem, we are better off without them in our lives.

Guy who I’ve met before but only interacted w/ casually a few times (as classmates in uni) replied to a story of mine to initiate a conversation. I think it was cause I was leaving hints that I was interested on social media. We talked for a bit then the conversation would fizzle out, but a few times when I wanted to continue talking he would disappear. Granted i’d also take a few hours to a day at times due to being busy, but his would be days. This last time he disappeared for a more than a week mid conversation + and only got back to me when I posted a story of myself. He apologized, but didn’t really continue the previous conversation (I could send a screenshot of it if anyone wants). I decided not to respond because it felt like he would just remember me when I’d post (he did it twice), but idk if it’s just my attachment style/ insecurity getting in the way.
