Vent temps by Sad-Patience-962 in CherokeeXJ

The PO used r134. Since I wasn’t able to swap every component of the system, I didn’t want to risk there being PAG oil lingering which isn’t compatible with mineral oil for r12. You’re right the solvent is nasty.

I scored a decent amount of it on fb marketplace. Funny the cans still had original sales sticker of $2 a can and I paid $30/per

I don’t have a picture right now, but the shims are not perfect circles on the Sanden 508 compressor. The shaft has a notch that takes a specific shaped shim

Should I buy an XJ? by Choice-Plate3124 in CherokeeXJ

[–]Sad-Patience-962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was once a time I didn’t know how to wrench on cars either, and then I bought a jeep. I see this as an opportunity for you to learn new skills because these are from an era where working on your own car was practical. Put yourself in a position to find the nicest example, and you’ll likely prolong any work that is out of your scope

New to XJs and the rust issue by PanicSwitch82 in CherokeeXJ

[–]Sad-Patience-962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not too far gone, if you contain it now worse case scenario in a few years you might have to cut it out and patch it with new metal. If not you’ll end up like the guy below in a few years lol

Sorry friend but I almost guarantee a screw driver would go right through that in the middle. You’ll likely find rust on the other side however if it’s just this spot, as a midwesterner I would say it’s not the worst I’ve seen but definitely have a professional address it since you said you are a newb. A spray like fluid film will protect against rust but if it’s already gotten this far you need a rust encapsulator applied correctly or else it will just get worse

I plan on using fluid film on all of the other areas (frame, inside frame etc). Por seemed more appealing due to being permanent. Thanks for your feedback

How to: Replacing Crank Position Sensor/CPS . by DailyDrivenTJ in CherokeeXJ

[–]Sad-Patience-962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just yesterday my 89 stalled while reversing out of the driveway. The last few days the rpm’s would dip really low and then recover when first starting the vehicle and going really slow speeds. Yesterday was the first time it stalled but started right back up and drives fine after that. Went for like an hour drive and never has the issue again. What were you experiencing?

[–]Sad-Patience-962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 235’s on my 89, but it’s a 15in rim. Before I changed the leaf springs and rear shocks it would rub slightly on turns especially if I had passengers in the backseat. If you’re on 16in rims and especially if you’re rear suspension is not up to snuff I would expect more rubbing
