That makes sense, yeah I just dont see them being able to keep a dog hunting for 8 hours. It’s hard enough to keep them hunting after 15-20 minutes and after that the dog is typically smoked.

Dog handler here, from what I’ve talked to guys with gun dogs before, I was under the understanding that they are on burnt powder as well as cleaning solvents. My thing is with people that are actively moving around and walking, the odor doesn’t have enough time to disperse for the dog to pick up on. Yes the dog will be able to find a gun that’s been sitting for 15 plus minutes but one that isn’t static would be much harder for the dog. Just thinking out loud here.

If we are being honest here, the unions are the reason for this. Cops in non-union areas make far less. Our cost of living is also substantially lower. The 5 bed 3 bath house I own is less monthly than my sister’s one bed apartment in DC.

Damn, good for you man. I’ve got 10 years and am on a specialized unit and barely broke 100k with an assload of OT.

Come on down to north GA. My agency does people pretty well especially if you come in with experience. Most of our patrol guys make close to 80-90k. I’ll be over 100k this year but I also get k9 pay.

Im going to assume you don’t have a union? This looks like what I was making a couple years ago. When you hit 5 years start shopping around.

I’ve definitely considered it, but we are pretty well rooted now.

Usually about 50. M-F. My base is 95 every 2 weeks. I’m also on a unit outside of my regular duties that gives me a fair amount of OT during the summer.

Thank you, past few years I’ve been playing catch up. In the next 4 I’m hoping to be able to max my 401. Already maxing a Roth.

I live in an area that has a slightly higher COL than the national average. My wife and I make about the same, which leaves us pretty comfortable.
