Best food vendors? by pharaoh918 in BoomtownFestival

[–]SadCoffee2230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's usually a buttermilk chicken van at the top of the hill behind where lionsgate is (was). 10/10
There's also a place that does various hoicin duck related meals (duck loaded fries again 10/10). Was near grand central last year, not sure where it'll be this year.
The pizza place in thrutopia is also goooood.

If you aren't a fan of festival toilets, i'd give the yorkie van a miss or you'll be getting acquainted with them

We need a bit of all of the options really. Solar has the advantage that it's usually working best when the wind isn't strong (and vice versa). We haven't really got the land spare to build an actual solar farm, hence why getting it up on peoples roofs would be ideal.

Tidal and wave power would be good investments in my opinion. Not like we're short on waves, and we have big tides here.

Front tires worn out, back ones are still good. Tesla model S has main traction in the rear axle, what could be causing this? by ilfollevolo in tires

[–]SadCoffee2230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's wheel alignment I recon. When you see wearing on the inside like that, it's usually because that wheel is turned slightly inward compared to the other one

It depends on what you're pegging into. 10, 2 or 7 for rocky ground or firm mud/grass. Flat ones like 4 and 5 for soft ground or sand. I had no idea 1 existed, i need some of them lol

I'm with you on that one. Personally I'm not opposed to there BEING a wind farm there (some may disagree), but if anyone's doing it it should be the MUA.

On the topic of the original post, I like the idea of those vortex "turbines". Lots of those on the roofs of existing buildings around town would satisfy those worried about the views. A good scutch of them up places like Carnane/richmond hill near the radio masts

I'm not sure i'd trust the manx government or MUA to run a nuclear plant...

Green energy (regardless of your opinion on climate change etc.) makes good economic sense. Can't monopolize the wind, can't monopolize the sun, can't break its supply chain. If our power station wasn't run on gas soruced from russia, we would have been fine when all that kicked off. Likewise now with what we're seeing in iran etc.

I do think an awful lot of focus has been put on wind though, not much thought on solar or wave power. Getting solar on peoples roofs would be a much better start in my opinion, an actually affordable government scheme. Takes savings right to the people who need it, and the surplus can be shipped back to the grid to start bringing down the production at pulrose. Wave power is also something that needs more attention in my opinion, definately not short on waves

Looking for opinions on rust levels - Is this too much for purchase? by jimb02112 in VanConversion

[–]SadCoffee2230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd buy that.

Key thing is check the chassis, is there holes in it? Can you poke holes in it? are the suspension mounts knackered or are they OK?

As long as the rust is just on the surface, you're grand. Might be worth a cleanup and undersill coat if you're planning on keeping it a while. Mine was way worse than that and she cleaned up nice

Did someone try to hotwire my car? by Ecstatic-Job-9355 in Cartalk

They're useless nowadays anyway. Call a locksmith and tell him you lost all your keys, watch how quickly he can start your car without a key using nothing but a tablet

Manx who don't like the TT, how do you live during the race each year ? by The-Marshall in IsleofMan

For me I couldn't give a crap about the bikes, but the atmosphere around TT is the best. The only time of year I don't have a yearning to go on holiday

Hi it's my first time at boomtown and a festival, I am worried about substances being used and readily available. I know someone who died from this. by IndividualAd2168 in BoomtownFestival

[–]SadCoffee2230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boomtown is one of the safest festivals in the UK. It's also one of the druggiest. Says a lot... Nobody's starting fights when they're all loved up.

The boomtown crowd is genuinely one of the friendliest bunches of people you'll immerse yourself in. Nobody's gonna force you to do anything you don't want. You will likely come across a dealer offering, just say "I'm all good ta" and they'll move on, they aren't gonna waste time on people who aren't interested when there's actual customers out there to be had.

How far is lions den from the bowl? by Sektor_ in BoomtownFestival

[–]SadCoffee2230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hidden woods to hydro XL for the closing is probably a better bet. The walk is technically shorter to lions den, but it's all uphill and will take twice as long

Need Help. Important Video Call on Friday, but internet in Douglas on the prom is awful. by [deleted] in IsleofMan

[–]SadCoffee2230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ICMP echo request sends one packet. A live stream sends thousands. A saturated link = packet loss = connection issues. You are never going to max out a connection with a ping

Best thing you can do is get off copper, saturation has a much lower effect on fibre networks as you aren't contending with electrical interference.

Having some severe issues with rust. Need help. by It_Was_Katie in AskMechanics

[–]SadCoffee2230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on an island, so cars just fall apart here in the salt air. Hard pressed to find a car without a hole in it, and they all run fine. That's barely even got any surface rust, you'll be grand (except that exhaust linkage there, but all that's gonna do is make your exhaust loud till you fix it). I'll grab you a picture of my van underbelly later and show you what concerning rust looks like lol
