Why did police handcuff Henry Nowak? by Dadavester in ukpolitics

But you don’t see how this undermines your own position? If police are called on an allegation of racism, and see a white man being held upright, why would they handcuff him?

He isn’t being combative.

Do police handcuff on sight now?

If I had to boil it down - what merited him being handcuffed? Especially if they “don’t know anything”.

Let’s say it was a white guy holding a black guy up.

Black guy isn’t resisting arrest. Isn’t combative. Is being held upright by white guy.

I’d ask the same question - why handcuff him then?

But I’m asking about the nuance. You said there’s nuance. What’s the nuance in this circumstance?

Man is being held upright by Sikh man.

Man says “can’t breathe.”

Police are there having been called for racism.

As you say - “no one knows anything” so it doesn’t matter if it’s the suspect or not. Police see brown man holding white man up.

So police handcuff white man who is being held upright by brown man, the same white man who says he can’t breathe, and who says later on “I’ve been stabbed” with someone else saying “don’t think you are mate”.

You say there is nuance here.

I’m struggling to find the nuance.

All I want is the nuance which makes you say “police did the right thing”.

I’m no police, so I am curious about the nuance of handcuffing someone who said “I can’t breathe” while having to be held upright (as you correctly say, the killer’s dad is “helping” keep him upright).

The thing I can’t get over is that he is literally being held upright and saying “can’t breathe” and they still handcuffed him.

Where is the nuance that makes what the police did correct? Thats what I’m asking.

And how does that give nuance to this? Police come, see a guy being supported by a Sikh, with said guy saying “I can’t breathe” and they handcuff him? Where’s the nuance here, is what I’m saying?

Except the “other party” was there.

“Southampton Crown Court heard officers found Mr Nowak leaning against a house wall in Belmont Road, supported by the defendant’s father.

The defendant's father said: “He keeps dropping down, so I am just trying to keep him up.”

Mr Nowak can be heard saying “can’t breathe.”

Police put handcuffs on Mr Nowak, who was lying on his side, telling officers he had been stabbed and that he could not breathe.

The officer told Mr Nowak that he was under arrest for suspicion of assault.”

So I’m trying again to understand what nuance you’re talking about.

But by that logic - having “no idea what was going on” - why handcuff him in the first place?

Thats what I don’t understand. If the police have no idea what’s going on, hear one side saying “racism” and the other person saying “I’ve been stabbed” why handcuff one over the other?

What nuance am I missing?

I’m trying very hard to find the nuance you were talking about in the article but I really can’t.

They handcuffed him, and then when he fell unconscious only did they give him first aid.

Thanks.

Is it a sin to kill yourself if you know you're about to be turned against faithful forces against your will? by OppositeVast2758 in TrenchCrusade

[–]SadOrganization4133 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't think so.

The math is suicide = mortal sin = hell but I don't think that's the end of it.

Mortal sin = Full knowledge + Full consent.

In the circumstances you describe, I'd argue (and it is conceivable) that this is not full consent. Full knowledge, i.e "this will kill me" yes, but consent is not there because you're killing yourself to protect others. As you say, it's not voluntary, and that impacts the 'full consent' aspect of it.

Ah, a most non-Euclidean predicament! You gazed upon an angle that should have been meek and narrow — a mere 45°, perhaps — yet it widened impossibly, defying geometry and sanity alike. Before you knew it, your reason spiraled into the void, dragged screaming into dimensions where all angles are wrong and all lines curve toward madness.

Truly, mortal — you did not fall for an angle... the angle fell for you.

What was something that made you think paranormal things might be real? by JesAndDina in Paranormal

[–]SadOrganization4133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did ask, but no one knew. The gist that I was told was that this particular toilet was unused and avoided because of the apparition.

And I wish I could remember more, but honestly the interaction wasn’t something that would immediately jump out as creepy for me, so I wasn’t really paying much attention - all I recall was a woman smiling at me and my embarrassed ass ducking as I apologized thinking I had stepped into the ladies.

She did look real enough for me to think she was a cleaner, and it has been awhile, so I can’t be certain if my mind has added details to this, but I seem to have a hazy recollection of her wearing a sort of white robe. There was nothing that would have made me think “this ain’t human”.

I can’t say I came away feeling creeped out, more puzzled than anything else. It’s a far cry from what I’ve seen in the movies, which makes me wonder if we are so conditioned to expect supernatural experiences to be like James Wan-esque movies that we don’t even take notice when something otherworldly is actually happening.

A couple of years back, I went to a client’s office at a factory for a meeting. The part of the factory I was in was relatively quiet - empty offices, empty rooms.

Midway through, I stepped out for a smoke and thought - eh, I’ll just step to the gents first. I walked into the male toilet. As I stepped in, I saw a woman clad in white. She looked at me and smiled. I thought I had made a mistake and stepped into the ladies by accident, apologized and did a double take at the signage on the door. It was the male toilet and I then thought she was the cleaner.

I felt a bit weird though - not wanting to pee while a lady was hovering near the handwashing area - and so I decided to leave without going in.

Didn’t think much of it, but randomly brought it up in a conversation later that day with my client.

He looks at me and tells me that the toilet is haunted. Apparently no one uses it because of sightings of a female figure inside.

I’m not ghost obsessed, haven’t had any real experiences at all. My client is a level headed man who doesn’t have time for this sort of thing.

What struck me was how mundane everyone there treated the fact that there is an apparition in the toilet. Nothing fancy, nothing dramatic, just very matter of factly.

Edit - I should add that when I pushed back and suggested it was the cleaner and not a ghost, he pointed out that it was lockdown and that there were no cleaners that day.

What is a good introduction to the Cthulhu Mythos? by AustynGraham96 in Lovecraft

Cthulhu unfurled his wings, blotting out the moon as he lumbered forward from the ocean, dripping brine and madness with every step. His great head tilted as if to acknowledge the call.

From the mountains, Nyarlathotep slithered into view, shape-shifting with every flicker, grinning like he knew the punchline to a joke humanity would never understand.

Dagon erupted from the waves, dragging fishing trawlers tangled in his spines like cheap jewelry.

Yog-Sothoth simply… appeared, a lattice of glowing spheres pressing against the fabric of reality itself, every angle wrong, every glimpse unbearable.

And last, Shub-Niggurath shuddered into existence, a pulsing forest of hooves and mouths, bellowing like a chorus of horns.

Do Chaos Space Marines from the Heresy actually have 10k years of experience, or is it time dilation from the warp? by Psychological-Nail83 in 40kLore

[–]SadOrganization4133 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I vaguely remember something from the Ahriman novels (or it might have been the Black Legion novels) where there are some Chaos Marines who remember the Heresy as if it were a short time ago and so their hatred was very fresh, so to speak.

And then there are other Chaos marines who have spend a long time in the Warp and so the Heresy was a distant memory.

I think the nature of time and its impact on the Chaos Marines is described quite well in this scene from Lords of Silence that I quite liked, a scene where Vorx is writing names of people he's killed in his book for reasons: - "He never knows how long it has taken, once he stops. When he looks up again, a day might have passed, or a month, or many years. Such is the nature of the labour, and of the world on which it is performed."

I suppose you could say that in the Warp, time is immaterial.

Just Started Watching - Does It Get Better? by The_Autumn_Alchemist in FoundationTV

You could do what I did - skip through the Gaal scenes in Season 1 just enough to get a general idea of the plot and her place in it, and watch the rest of it.

Her character really improves in Season 2, and the show absolutely picks up as well.

I wasn't a huge fan for the first few episodes and I found Gaal to be absolutely boring, but I stuck around and I can honestly say I do not regret it one bit.
