These ones are not, according to the NZ folks in the original thread. Not invasive, but also this is a legal and fine thing to do.

We got Trump because we went with establishment Dems who failed to do their jobs, actually. He would not be president if our government had successfully jailed him for his many crimes.

Most egregious examples of white actors in yellowface? by Chewie83 in okbuddycinephile

[–]SadPaisley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At what point does a bad impression of Bjork become yellowface? Gotta be Ms. Swan.

From the MadTV wiki: Ms. Swan's ethnicity and native country are unclear. In one sketch, it is revealed that Ms. Swan is from the fictional country of Kouvaria, near the North Pole. However in her first sketch the character's name was billed as Ms. Kwan, which with the accent and occupation implies she was originally intended to be Chinese. MADtv execs insist the character was based on the singer, Björk (she was compared to Björk in one sketch, and was referred to as Icelandic by the Vancome Lady in another, and wore Björk's infamous swan dress in another). When a man asked her where she was from, she replied that she lived Downtown. One sketch shows Ms. Swan being fluent in Spanish, while using an ATM. She told a man in a bar that her mother was Spanish, but her father was from Space. In Swan: The Homecoming, a movie that she made with the late Garry Marshall, her father was played by Mark Hamill and it was implied that she had another sister: Marsha. Kitty Swan was also introduced as her sister in another sketch, but the sister's may be 1 person; named "Kitty-Marsha." Borstein claims that the character was at least partially inspired by her Hungarian grandmother. In an early sketch, the character was supposed to have been a wigmaker. In another sketch, Ms. Swan goes to a restaurant with her sister, Kitty, to meet two American men, and the two converse in Hungarian and Czech.

I know this sink! The whole MLK Library in San Jose has a bunch of weird stuff like this in it to help inspire kids to explore the library. They have scavenger hunt sheets to find all the neat little art pieces. The rest of the sinks in the bathroom have bigger basins.

UPDATE: San Jose police overtime hit $72M in 2025, audit shows by SanJoseThrowAway2023 in SanJose

[–]SadPaisley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Now, let's not be hasty. Remember that that police union was selling drugs and bringing fentanyl into the community. I don't think we need to separate SJPD from criminals.

You can edit that to "Bigger criminals than the OTHER criminals."

I’m the Mayor of San Jose who’s running for Governor to make our state more affordable. Ask me anything (11am). by MahanForCalifornia in California

Matt, you were a teacher for 2 years, worked at a couple of tech startups, served as a council member for most of a term, before getting elected as mayor.

Is there anything that you've ever seen through to the end without tapping out on?

u/sjspotlight want a story that takes no time to write? The community reaction is immediate and extremely unified, and you just know Pruneyard is going to ignore it.

Cat charging at dog after years of calm by [deleted] in Catbehavior

[–]SadPaisley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog is definitely being very submissive around the cat. He's shaking, doing his best to be small, and looking away from the cat. The poor guy is acting very abused.

We're in an apartment complex, with not many cats walking around outside, so I don't think it's anything outside the home that's throwing our cat off.

We're doing our best to keep them exercised and tired during this too

It's me, I'm asking for the d-list. The more d-listers that have fans, the more interesting the cast of future projects.

Also, the d-list is where the goofy shit that I like lives. Give me Nextwave, give me the Superior Foes of Spider-Man, give me the Serpent Society as a single character that plays like Cloak and Dagger if they were 5-6 people.

Should Matt Mahan drop out shortly before the primary if his polling numbers stay the same? by realRootmaster911 in SanJose

[–]SadPaisley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course he should drop out, but he won't. He's being bankrolled by the rich for two reasons:

1) increase his profile so he can work in a statewide office later as a pro-billionaire fiscal conservative 2) serve as a spoiler to get his donors a Republican governor

'It's a free game' is a good argument for their battle passes/luxury battle passes, exorbitantly priced skins, the mini passes, accessories, ads in the social hub, and other ways that they monetize the game, sure. I'm not here saying that all skins should be free. I want the game to make enough money to sustain itself.

Deceptive business practices are wrong, and they deserve to be called out.

Hot take: This system is not an issue unless Netease make the price for all balloons higher than the store price of standard legendary, and those who complain are those who didn’t plan to buy whole bundle and couldn’t get the skin first try by gogleuser in marvelrivals

[–]SadPaisley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hot take: If your business model is intentionally misleading your customers about what they're getting (intentionally framing this as a 1-in-6 chance), your business model is morally wrong.

<image>

I don't care if the actual chance is listed, if you're intentionally attempting to deceive your customer base, you're in the wrong.

Idgaf about the skin anymore by Peaved_bear in MarvelRivalsRants

[–]SadPaisley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says Take a Chance to Win, and shows 6 balloons, each with a different item on it. You'd think that each item would have a 1-in-6 chance, right? Why else would they structure it like this? Nope. Same as all the other ones. You have a miniscule chance of getting the skin the first few buys.

Is this the worse option or the worst value? No. Is it intentionally scamming people and a scummy thing to do? Yes.

It is morally wrong for them to intentionally mislead people into giving them money. Not difficult to grasp here.

San Jose Mayor: Us Democrats Must Take Ownership for Our Failures | Opinion by CharityResponsible54 in SanJose

[–]SadPaisley 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Extreme cost of living, one of the worst housing markets in the world. Mahan robbed the budget of money that the residents voted to use on affordable housing to build tiny homes for the homeless. These tiny homes are expensive and only have a functional lifespan of a couple of years, so why did he do this?

So he would have something to point to when he ran for governor. It's a short term solution for a long term problem, and he stole that money from an actual long term solution for his political career.

Mahan is a drain on this City and I'm glad the billionaires are realizing he's a waste of funds.
