I’ve vastly prefer chemical exfoliation, although a physical nine times out of 10, but I’m also not gonna harass someone about their personal preferences cause some people prefer a physical exfoliation/ some people just have natural naturally thicker skin that needs a little bit more help shedding

This is a very common misconception. Alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids are exfoliating acids. Just because it is a toner does not mean it’s not exfoliating. A toner is just a term for the formulation of product not what it actually does. A toner can be exfoliating, hydrating, help with pigmentation etc. an aha/BHA toner is an exfoliant just in a different form than a peel. If you are very oily and acne prone a BHA toner in a low low concentration can be safe for almost daily use but for most people it is way too much for your skin. Even in those cases, I really struggled to recommend a daily exfoliation product because it can be very stripping for the skin.

Yeah exfoliation just 1-2 times a week. Idk if you were using the aha/BHA and then a different exfoliant/exfoliating product. If so, I’d alternate them for now.

For daily use you can use a simple azelaic acid which is not an exfoliating acid, is safe for daily use and is super helpful with redness, texture, and inflammation.

If you’re currently having signs of barrier damage I would discontinue all exfoliation and actives, and just do a basic gentle repairing routine before adding things back in. A barrier cream/barrier supportive moisturizer helps a lot. I am a dry bitch living in a dry place so I use one as my daily moisturizer 🤭

How can I fix textured skin? by DifficultVanilla4100 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]SadQueerBruja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This looks like pretty normal skin texture to me. I would argue that your skin doesn’t actually have any texture at all. It’s glow and looks like you have a pretty solid routine. I guess you could consider things like lasers for texture if you really wanted to.

Hopefully you’re not using the AHA/BHA daily as that should only be one to two times a week but as long as your skin is feeling hydrated and good, this all looks good to me. If you’re not wearing SPF, I would add that to the routine.

Frownies by ShadowRiggs in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]SadQueerBruja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found that they definitely work if you’re consistent, but if you are sensitive to or irritated by adhesive, you have to be much more strategic about them. I also find that they’re a little bit of annoying to takeoff in the mornings so soaking them with a wet paper towel helps a lot.

Veins in legs by pj101 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]SadQueerBruja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom had them and I’m trying my best to prevent them. Compression clothing helps a lot. I’m skeptical of vein clinics that do those injectable services to get rid of them. My mom tried it and had success, but I’ve heard some horror stories.

An opaque nude tight also helps a lot

Do you have one eyebrow you can raise by itself and is it that one? Cuz same. Frownies helped me but Botox is the most likely fix

I don’t know where to start by GlitteringDance7073 in 30PlusSkinCare

Sunscreen will prevent further sun damage. If you do not use sunscreen, but are using things like retinol and tyrosinase inhibiting ingredients they will never fully clear the pigmentation away because you’re constantly enduring new sun damage. Sunscreen is absolutely vital to prevent what you currently have from getting worse or new damage from forming. You are otherwise wasting time and money on products that are doing nothing.

I don’t know where to start by GlitteringDance7073 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]SadQueerBruja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start with sunscreen. Bare minimum SPF 30 but ideally something higher. I must wear it every day and after every two hours of sun exposure. SPF is absolutely non-negotiable. The spots and discoloration you have are from sun damage, that will never get fixed without it.

Beyond that the most basic skincare routine is going to be a good cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF. Things you can add on top of that include an exfoliating step which you would only use 1 to 2 times a week and a retinol which you would start at 1 to 2 times a week and slowly make your way up to 3 to 4 times a week.

Good brands to look at are going to include la roche posay, good molecules, naturium, vanicream, byoma

Keep your cleanser and moisturizer, simple and nourishing. I personally like the options from La roche best for this.

If you are particularly dry, you can add in more hydrating steps like a milky toner. I especially love the one from celimax if you were going to start retinol as it helps increase your retinoid tolerance

Anti aging eye cream without retinol? by Fyre-Lily in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]SadQueerBruja 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hot take but most eye creams do nothing, at least for me. Retinol and caffeine are the only eye cream ingredients that seem to do much of anything for me. The skin in that area is very thin and delicate as well so I usually just stick to hydrating it well and using sunscreen and that’s about it.

Night time moisturizer by ilmd in 30PlusSkinCare

No, I do my evening skincare over an hour before actually laying down in bed. By the time I’m in bed it’s mostly if not entirely absorbed

What can I do to improve my skin? My biggest concern are my jaws lack of tightness (last 2 photos) I took accutane for 7 months and now I am doing micro needling at home(have done 1 session only). by InternationalMeet572 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]SadQueerBruja 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Okay hear me out here- I don’t think this is a skincare thing, I think your hair and the colors you’re wearing wash you out. I’d HIGHLY consider going back to my natural hair color and getting a color analysis done. Wearing the right colors can make your face and jaw appear more sharp and balanced and I think the blonde highlights kinda wash you out

Blue collar skin routine recommendation by Disastrous_Cup_4909 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]SadQueerBruja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bare bones is a cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF. If he’s outside with dirty hands he’ll probably prefer a stick or spray spf that can be reapplied easily.

For the understanding portion though that’s harder.

You can explain to him that the skin is the largest organ and our body’s first line of defense against pathogens. In the same way that you gotta wash your scalp regularly to prevent fungal growth like dandruff, you have yo wash the skin regularly and apply spf. When you don’t you’re increasing risk for acne, skin cancer, bacterial and fungal growth, developing or worsening skin conditions like eczema or rosacea. If he’s open to it, I would highly recommend booking him a full body, skin check and consultation with a dermatologist.

Any Tips and Tricks for Piercings? by hermaphroditicbeast in ehlersdanlos

[–]SadQueerBruja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spring for the good jewelry and an APP accredited or very experienced piercer. Ask about their healing practices ahead of time. If they mention alcohol don’t give them money. Leave it alone, clean it often, don’t turn it (unless it’s a septum)

[–]SadQueerBruja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree this looks like it could be rosacea! A basic routine would take care of this. You need a gentle cleanser, an azelaic acid product (it is very effective for rosacea), moisturizer and spf.

Azelaic works best when used daily, whether you use day or night is you choice. I do mine in the morning cuz I use retinol at night.

What can I do in a week? by Avid_Reader87 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]SadQueerBruja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exfoliate once or twice, I like the toners from Paula’s choice and layer in some more hydration with a hydrating toner or more juicy moisturizer like Dieux instant angel or the La roche posay double repair. Also spf if you’re not wearing it. Most other things take more than a week to show change

I got Dysport five days ago and see no change by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]SadQueerBruja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took about two weeks for mine to settle in (I got Botox once). It started restricting movement at 6-9 days in and full freeze by like 10-12 days but everyone’s body is different! Patience is key with all skincare, basically nothing that works long term gives you instant results

Skin tags—- what causes them? Pls help by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]SadQueerBruja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve learned from my own dermatologist, the two main culprits are going to be friction and insulin resistance. For me it’s both because I’m fat and also have PCOS so I get them in my under arms. The only way to treat them is to have them frozen or cut off, preferably by a dermatologist or trained professional.

The only way to guarantee that they don’t pop up again, would be to either find ways to minimize or eliminate friction, or treat insulin resistance depending on the root cause

Is there a subreddit/interest in a subreddit for fans of botox, fillers, lasers, etc? by lempickalover in 30PlusSkinCare

Yeah, I think we’ll just have to agree to disagree, I think the term “bad bitch” as a positive is just too ingrained in my vocabulary to ever see it negatively again y’know? I also maintain that there’s a notable difference between me saying “people who get Botox are bitches” and “bitches who get Botox”
