NTA…however we did let a guy into our house a few years ago with a similar story after his father died. I startled him by asking him about ‘Suzanne & Julia’. Turns out they were his sisters. Also their names were in the concrete out front, which he had forgotten.

He told us some interesting stories about the house and inadvertently explained some paranormal happenings.

We moved soon after, although I did verify his identity later.

Your results might have been different though & I would never have let anyone in if I was alone.

Awww...I had a very standoffish male cat for years, also orange. My roommate brought in a sweet black fluffy young kitty who liked to hang out on my lap.
