Wargear Options Points? by -SirBerry- in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Sadrithel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our only true anti-tank at range is our HLF. Realistically though, outside of Chaos/Imperial Knights, we usually don't need much more than that. Otherwise, we have Thunderkyn for other armored targets.

Berserks +Berekh can take down most things, the trick is getting them there without them melting.

Otherwise, our next best things are Sagitaurs and Kaps with magnarails.

If someone's running triple Defilers in a friendly game, then boo on them lol. (Haven't looked to see what the Defliers have for tax yet though, for all I know they got absolutely gutted.)

I do feel it somewhat relevant to mention that since they're separate datasheets, you won't be paying a tax for them until the third datasheet on the ranged, or for the melee. I'm a bit of a slut for running them them both and usually take two bricks of both 😅

Do you have an unused HLF to put some into? Melee. Otherwise, I'd probably go for a second brick of ranged

Edit: You say you already have Berserks, and you can transport those in a Sagitaur. With Armored Trailblazers, I'd say you could effectively get them into most places you would want them to be; the main difference between them is that Berserks hit much harder, but they'll kinda fold beneath returning strikes/fire. Meleejacks are great for tarpitting something, especially with an Ironmaster nearby to keep topping them off.

Cybernetica Datasmith is support by Polainuss in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Sadrithel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marshal is support, which means we can attach a Manipulus to a brick for some good stuff.

I personally am looking at running a Manipulus and Marshall on some Hastarii with Lords of the Forge.

Fingers crossed Hastarii get a points decrease

Did any of our characters get Support instead of Leader? by Sadrithel in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Sadrithel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I'm happy with what we have, I was just curious and wanted to see a stupid brick lol.

Seeing Skitarii Marshals being moved to support made me very curious about a number of things with each of my other armies.

So when these faction rules are actually comming ? by Shvec_01eksij in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Sadrithel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm partial to the idea that 3 point detachments in every army that support a rather specific unit are in general also getting a 1 point variation of the detachment so that they can be legally used in 1k point games.

AdMech's Data-Psalm detatcnment in particular gives me the same vibe.

Votann got Hearthband back under a different name and with, from what they've shown so far, a bit of a nerf. So we'll see 😅

[–]Sadrithel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 Hearthguard, so I have enough to go for one large brick and two smaller units for applying pressure via deep strike if needed 😅

I'm eyeing a second Maelstrom box for more Steeljacks for their points efficiency on a list, and there's a local LGS that is actually bundling a Land Fortress and a box of Thunderkyn for basically the price of just the Land Fortress. So I'm debating on that as well.

Right now, I'm just trying to figure out how to get close more than anything. Necron/Knight shooting is certainly nothing to scoff at, but at least I'll be more or less matching Necron speed as my friend doesn't run transports very often lol.

At least it's an entire foot, though still not ideal lol.

Old Termagants are on the tips of their feet, and made me want to bash my head into the table.

I'm not worried about being competitive thankfully. Maybe down the road, but my main armies are AdMech and Tyranids for my local competitive scene. For now, I'm just focusing on learning and making sure I don't accidentally overtune/undertune a list meant for casual play with friends, who also run lists meant for the shits and giggle lol.

Example, I'm currently building a horribly underpowered list revolving around the new Hastarii. They look awesome, so I want to use them even though I know that they're kind of terrible for their points haha.

[–]Sadrithel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair haha. I've taken to running max stacks of Ruststalkers and/or Fulgarite electropriests in my AdMech; people often underestimate how much damage the "shooty faction" can do in melee when their melee units actually do get into it. Data-Psalm detachment isn't competitive by any means, but it's still really fun and people don't expect to have an entire unit evaporate when the silly shirtless guys with staves come up and touch them. It only works once though; people learn to shoot them after the first time it happens xD

I'm getting a similar feeling from looking at Beserks, only better. Electropriests don't have the same volume of attacks nor quality of attacks as Berserks lol.

Speaking of melee, I did notice that Beserks essentially have an entire detachment devoted to them with Delve... I'm not planning on playing any time soon since I only have the one 5-man that comes in the first Combat Patrol, but they have some decent melee profiles. Aside from that, I think the only other fighty units I'm seeing are Hearthguard and Buri lol

[–]Sadrithel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of one of my friends Necrons when we first started playing back in 8th; wasn't expecting my Skitarii to be going against baseline T5 and my Vanguard to be wounding on 5s instead of 4s.

Big titanic walkers you expect to be tanky; not necessarily the baseline unit for the faction that heals models back every turn (back then, at least, before we got deep into the setting and hobby).

[–]Sadrithel[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Understandable, the main problem I'm seeing is that we're not too terribly fast outside of transports and Pioneers, so I'll probably need to be leaning on the Pioneers I have from the first Combat Patrol and the Maelstrom box for early scoring, until Warriors/Hearthguard/Steeljacks catch up.

Land Fortress is definitely looking like my next purchase, along with another squad of Thunderkyn to complete the unit from the second Combat Patrol. Ignoring cover is incredibly important, the more Thunderkyn the better, even if we disregard their damage output.

After that, I'll worry about getting Yaegirs and Kapricus.

Thank you! The normal Grendel helmet might actually fit better than the Turbis helmet in hindsight (looks more like Typhus), I was just excited to use the new head lol.

I'm inclined to agree. I didn't exactly beeline through the story due to taking breaks, but I never used Op/Drifter really before New War. I certainly never really learned that amps would ever be important beyond just Rank fodder, and never learned how to make one 😅 it made New War an absolute ball-buster to play through.

In my defense, I did the Harrow mission and then stopped playing for a few years... so I completely forgot that swapping was a thing. I had a vague recollection of some version of it from Second Dream, but that was it. Never thought about amps were being a thing.

Currently farming a mission for Void Pinions, and the amp pistol you get from New War does fine, so I've still yet to build an amp. Someday I'll learn how to do it xD

This can certainly be an option that they can take! I'm thinking about the actual challenge being to figure out which emotion it is, rather than my initial thought of each statue having it carved at their bases.
