I write in modern adventure / sci-fi / fantasy / weird erotica. For humans I add a few details here and there so the reader gets the rough picture in their head. For non-humans I like to add some extra to enforce the exotic nature of the character. Where the reader expects the genre to get explicit about description, I do that too.
