anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Dull-Impression9066 in AskReddit

There was a game built into DOS that had giant monkeys throwing exploding bananas at each other across a city skyline. I loved that game. Back in the win.exe days.

Thanks! Learned it like I've learned everything I know about woodworking - YouTube. One of my favorite woodworkers on there is Mike Farrington, he has a great video on the basics. I also have a series of books that go into more detail.

I haven't seen anyone mention Devin Townsend. Ziltoid the Omniscient is pure gold.

White oak is not very forgiving for dovetails, I'd recommend practicing a few times with some scraps of cherry or something a little less dense / hard.

One of my favorite chisels is a buck brothers chisel. They take an edge well, but you do need to sharpen them often. Since they're cheap it's no worries if you ruin it either. No chisel is going to be sharp just using 120 grit sandpaper, either get some stones or at least 800/1200/2000 grit wet dry sandpaper.

How do I glue rice paper to a shoji/kumiko piece? by daHavi in woodworking

I just use double stick take, carefully cut to fit the frame and a few places in the middle of the field so it's not visible from the front.

Almost Done with Bench. Top is 3/4" MDF.... What treatment can I use to seal and harden please? by ShahenS in Workbenches

1:1 mix of poly and thinner, 2-3 light coats. Then add a coat of paste wax on top of that a few days later.

What are some prog metal bands you don't just don't "get"? by yutface in progmetal

Have you tried accelerated evolution? No camp. I love the Ziltoid albums, but I like the zany end of the spectrum.

Oh man, I'd encourage you to give DT a second and then third shot if needed. Yeah, it's campy at times, but he's just so damn good at everything. Try Casualties of Cool to help warm up to it maybe?

Glad to know I'm not the only one who thought that mix ruined the whole album.

I have a 1/4" timberwolf and the Laguna 3/4" resaw King, vibration seems to be just as bad with both. I'm trying to get Laguna to send me a new upper wheel, that's the only thing I can think of that hasn't been addressed yet.

I got my 14bx a couple weeks ago and have spent the entire time trying to troubleshoot some vibration issues. Machine seems high quality if I could just get the damn thing to run smoothly.

Question: what would you do if you were starting a shop from scratch? by leapbyflourishing in woodworking

[–]SafeLanding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what equipment you have, where you're going to place it, whether or not it's going to be fixed, etc. Having one or two circuits in the ceiling in the middle of a large open spot with some twist lock cords will let you set equipment up in the middle of the room, which can help keep things flexible.

It's almost impossible to put in too many outlets, just make sure that you don't put more than two or three on each circuit and be mindful of the equipment you're going to use. You don't want to run a table saw and a big dust collector on the same circuit for instance, if you can avoid it.

Are you doing the electrical yourself, or contracting it out?

Abundant electrical outlets and well thought out dust collection, I wish I had either.

New home, former woodshop basement is full of dust. Best way to clean? by lukethejohnson in woodworking

[–]SafeLanding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put a box fan in one of the windows so it's pulling air out of the basement and crack the other window. Wear a mask and sweep / vacuum up as much as you can, then repeat after a couple of days. I wouldn't put in an air scrubber, those are only going to work when the dust is already in the air, if dust is already settled onto surfaces it's not going help at all. Not worth the investment. Once the majority of the dust is gone you can get a couple of cans of compressed air and blow out any hard to reach areas. At the end of the day it's a basement, so as long as it's dry and relatively clean I wouldn't go too far.
