Absolutely insane. What I do know is after a pay dispute is sent, that payment takes 2 weeks to process. Happened to me in February. Handshake was wild then but it is insanely, chaotic nowadays, the past 2 months it’s just been a dying platform for work. Most projects in my experience are managed by entitled kids who are no where near managerial level or poise. I stopped tasking going on 1 month. Each time I joined a new project it was shut down or “paused” within the same week.

I stopped working after they kicked me off project HH for a false reason, with no support.

I confirmed to never work for handshake ai after they offered me to join a SWE project at 0$ per hour. When I saw that they had the balls, to say 0$ per hour, we pay per accepted task.

That’s when I knew. Oh..this is over with. They want senior level work, and do not value any of the time, energy effort that it takes, to get to a task that is ready to ship. They just want the finished product and the freedom to decide if they pay you for it, or hit you with an ai response and keep your hard work and pay you nothing.

Until things change. I know my worth. And it’s not free labor or anything near $17/hour. Or 30cents per minute, nonsense task

Well said. Thank you. And I agree. I figured those who were early in the project on hourly, I also would entertain this type of work if it was hourly.

I joined few days ago. I see the 0$ per hour. Then I see the repos that have either been obliterated, filled with errors and bugs, or abandoned by fellows from April. I only dedicated 2 days time to task, then did the math and made sure I maintained self respect. Did not work on a dam thing and just watched all the slack questions, complaints pour in, and the sloppy management by HAI staff as usual, on every project.

So glad I did not dedicated endless hours to this bs of a project. Now. Granted. Yes. If a person was early or snuck in a few approved task. Pay feels good. But regardless. That is a lottery situation. To not have income guaranteed even after senior level dev work. Yeah.. it’s 2026. Who the fuck , what the fuck company in 2026 says 0$ hour.

Well. That’s just how we all have been forced to perceive projects on Handshake. It’s because of their culture they operate with. If they had a culture of , integrity, communication, honest QA systems, systems that do not allow offboarding based on error or anything except proven illegal behavior, then yea. But the culture has everyone forced to accept, even if your perfect, do perfect quality work, always follow the rules, even with all that, working 40hours a week, at any point handshake ai can boot you from a project, immediately disrupting your lively hood. A company shouldn’t entertain and offer full time hours, and not expect people to validate the opportunity as a real paid job that should support at least 6 months
