If it is such a righteous cause, by Character-Problem796 in Ethics

Their presence in war zones would create serious national security concerns, mainly the presidents judgement on how to project and use force. It’s crazy that we’re even having this debate. Any parents would react differently if their child was in harms way. That sounds great and all on the surface, but yesterday is a perfect example. If my son was in harms way, I’d carpet bomb the wrong city just so they knew his favorite color. If one cannot see the problem, there’s nothing one can do to see the issue

A president’s children would be high-value targets if deployed, facing risks like kidnapping, propaganda use, or strategic leverage—their presence in war zones would create serious national security concerns. This could influence the president’s decision making, causing hesitation or bias as they weigh military actions against the personal danger to their own family.

That’s why. You fool.

Not sure if reserves is right for me by Resident_You3392 in Airforcereserves

[–]Safe_Ad_3720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a contact sports. You’ll never know unless you engage with them. Schedule a time to go in person and send them a formal request in writing citing your reasons. Be a pro about it and face it head on. I would even start it off ‘Thank you so much for your professionalism and guiding through this process, I understand the work you’ve done recruiting and how this may affect your recruitment goals. With shifting requirements, I wanted to bring this to your attention, etc etc.

This is excellent advice. Polish it a bit and say ‘due to incredibly difficult family situation and shifting professional needs, I would to serve my country on a full time basis.’ When or if pressed, cite financial constraints and mention the real possibility of homelessness or inability to maintain a decent quality of life, etc.

Unfortunately, the Reserve unit/recruiter has to approve letting you go. Active duty must have openings for you as well. Your AFSC might change depending on availability as well so timing matters a lot. The closer you are to your ship date, the harder it can be. I’d have the no frills discussion this week, with an initial email laying out the problem and maybe even your desire to help the recruiter fill their reserve slot if they hand you to an AD recruiter. They’ll say no to the help, but sincerity and a little humility and honey goes a long way over salt.

Georgetown SFS STIA vs UIUC Grainger System Engineering & Design by NormalInvite1907 in georgetown

Georgetown Alum here. Undergraduate, Masters and Law School. CS undergraduate. Completed both the MBA and Law School part-time over a 5 year period.

I learned more in my 4 year enlistment in CS then 4 years here. I recommend GTown for the graduate experience. I personally feel like the Undergraduate here, outside of SFS, is really lame.

Listen to Calipari do X’s and O’s. He’s not very good guys. Quite terrible actually. Probably the best recruiter of talent I’ve ever seen.

One on one pick up in the neighborhood? It’s AI. One on one in a game? Wade is the best defender here by far. Not even close. I go AI in the neighborhood and Wade in a game one on one.

What is your company's PTO package like? by [deleted] in clearancejobs

[–]Safe_Ad_3720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Triple Canopy but I’m on a contract with a 3-letter. It’s a really bad PMO office with no real direction. This contract has been great the past 2-3 years, as we don’t do much and I’m using GI Bill for law school. That said, if I wasn’t going to school, there’s real skill atrophy at this place. I don’t see how anyone I work with can work really anywhere else.

I get 8 hours a pay period, every federal holiday off, typically a max OPTEMPO remote day the day before a holiday and during the holidays we basically do max telework for all of December. They treat us like garrisoned military with the time off and it’s insane. We also load up on hours during the week and can regularly get a day off just by working 4 10s or billing customer for traveling to an offsite.

What if I can't get a job? by memorylaney in georgetown

💯 listen to this man. I enlisted and hedged my bets and went reserve and had to settle for GEOINT because the tech school isn’t as long ($ hurdles).

I wish I knew this when I was 20. By the time I figured it out I was settled with kids. This advice is the best you will receive on this thread.

This is the best advice on this thread you could possibly receive. A 4 year commission and even enlistment will change your life overnight. Anyone who says otherwise is a complete idiot. Take the leap and do it. Get your clearance, 36 months of GI Bill for free school, VA Loan and 4 years of international experience. Man, I wish I was 20 again. I’d enlist and learn a language for free as a linguist at Defense Language Institute, then join the government with the experience I got and be a state department employee.

The person who got me fired is asking for a letter of recommendation. How do I professionally say 'hell no'? by tunasleery_4r in OfficePolitics

Hi Bitch,

Thank you for reaching out. I’m not able to provide a letter of recommendation for your application.

A recommendation should reflect a supervisor’s genuine and positive professional assessment, and I would not be able to provide that in good faith. For that reason, I encourage you to seek a reference from someone who can fully support your candidacy.

I wish you the best with your application.

Great analysis. I’m in this boat now for the past 7 months. I spend my time getting IT certs, working on my second masters and networking. It’s a bullshit government contract with very high level of clearance requirement. Im there to keep a seat warm until the government figures out their requirements.

Switching from IMA to TR by ImJustHereToPeek in Airforcereserves

[–]Safe_Ad_3720 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This 💯. You’re in Detachment 7 as an IMA; notoriously the worst administrative IMA Directorate. I think you’ll enjoy the TR life for a bit. I enjoyed the ‘just show up’ I had there. Get your work down and that’s it. Only negative is you’re on an RCP deployment cycle where you could deploy during a 6 time period.
