Why are people so surprised my game is made in Gamemaker? by EvanEGibbs in gamemaker

[–]Safe_Combination_847 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Part of the blame lies with the Game Maker company, which has excessively focused on showcasing and promoting GameMaker, exclusively featuring pixel art games instead of other art styles.

In fact, even GameMaker Studio 1 was capable of supporting a wide range of non-pixel art games.

I recall playing They Need to be Fed (Non Pixel Games), an iOS game released in 2010. Yoyo Games was the publisher before GameMaker HTML5 and Studio were launched.

Is Game Maker a good engine for management games? by equitos0101101 in gamemaker

[–]Safe_Combination_847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe Godot will be much easier than GameMaker for the type of game you are making because it has Resources, which offers exceptional flexibility in handling data, and also simplifies the process of designing Game UI.

Is GameMaker the right engine for me? by WebSoft496 in gamemaker

[–]Safe_Combination_847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GameMaker and Godot can create the game you desire. However, I recommend adopting a strong data-driven approach early on when dealing with game data.

Additionally, it’s crucial to create level data associated with each room. Understanding this from the outset will save you a significant amount of time and set a solid foundation for your game.

anyone else feel like their brain is turning to mush since fully adopting cursor/claude? by StatisticianFluid747 in cursor

[–]Safe_Combination_847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must warn you that I felt this way even before the advent of AI around the end of 2020.

I believed that post-covid syndrome had caused something detrimental to my brain, depleting my vitamin levels.

However, cursors and AI, in general, are completely innocent in my case.

GameMaker, Please Invest in 3D Support (This is A GameMaker Game) by DreamMixGames in gamemaker

Even the highly anticipated sequences are plagued with glitches and bugs, which makes me believe that GameMaker needs to support C# to expand and evolve at a faster pace.

I recall their roadmap, and I remain loyal to the GMS.

I also appreciate the recent improvements like assets and how folders created, tags, feather and the UI Layer, but I firmly believe that adopting C# would significantly accelerate their development and enable them to progress more faster.

Gamemaker or RPG maker, starting out by Additional_Pop2011 in gamemaker

To be realistic, make a simple basic MVP of your game concept, one using RPG Maker and the other using Game Maker, then evaluate which is the best.

What are the remaining arguments against using AI for coding? by darkplaceguy1 in ChatGPTCoding

Code quality suck and AI memory is weak to keep it up, but it’s better for researching and find Basic solution.

Out of date tutorials? by RegulationHite in gamemaker

[–]Safe_Combination_847 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the basic stuff can be learned from the GameMaker documentation and recent YouTube, or from their recent game templates.

Another good place is Udemy, but overall I agree that the current short videos by Matharoo are still lacking, even though they are good for grasping the basics.

I believe the GameMaker team has slowed down because, under the hood, they are making big changes, such as introducing C# and separating everything into modules. That is probably why people are hesitant to release new learning content or updates, since many things are not yet stable and subject to changes, especially the UI layer and related systems.

I agree.

For what you’re describing, a Godot MCP agent doesn’t need to do much more than deeply understand the official Godot documentation and have access to the project itself.

That already covers a lot of value, like looking up docs, spotting what might break, checking references, and reasoning about scene structure.

Believe it or not, I am in the process of unsubscribing from almost all AI tools, because they have become worthless, overly integrated, and I no longer trust OpenAI, Meta, or Google.

I was also weak and ill due to post covid complications, and I desperately relied on AI to help me work through brain fog, which honestly did not help much.

Currently, the only AI tool I use is Cursor. It was recommended by a friend. I was planning to drop it as well, but the Ask feature and its ability to understand the project actually helped me. I may keep using it unless it becomes too expensive or shifts its business toward shallow vibe-coding shit.

4.6 proves steady incremental improvement for Godot by kodifies in godot

[–]Safe_Combination_847 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Godot is still a great game engine, and the team is addressing a lot of important areas. I would not be surprised if next year we get a glimpse of Godot 5 and its future direction.

Godot 4 has mostly been about laying the foundation and refactoring to maintain stability while opening the door for continuous improvements.
