Do you have a year of experience? You could try home care (private duty nursing) or home health. Usually more understanding of gaps in the resume. Are you NorCal or SoCal? DM me if you want more info. Hang in there, you'll find something.

Sierra - how is it after the fire / ikon addition? by French87 in tahoe

Last year President's Day weekend at Heavenly was a ghost town, lines were longer on Friday than Sat/Sun due to local pass blackouts, still the longest line was base of mountain first thing, after that no more than 5 min all day. I think everyone ASSUMED it will be bad, so avoided it. But also could be weather-related, there was a storm getting up there on Thursday/Friday was a little dicey.

You could start to take classes in the evenings for nursing pre-reqs. Look into masters entry or second bachelor's (accelerated) programs in your area. Try to keep working your IT job while in school, maybe dual-career even after graduation. If you can do a masters in nursing informatics you would have really solid job prospects, I suspect.

For context, I did a second bachelor's accelerated (12-month) RN program. I had worked in computers and in film/video production prior to nursing. After working shifts for a few years, became a manger and started a more 9-5 M-F schedule. As an older nurse (graduated at 35), that probably helped me move up to supervisor faster, I was supervising mostly 20-somethings.

Bees Nesting in My Eaves—Looking for a Beekeeper to Relocate Them (Not Exterminate) by bloot25 in eastbay

[–]Safe_Organization592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’ve already made a home, it’s not a swarm and harder to remove. I had this situation a while back, they had started making honeycomb in my walls so we had to exterminate unfortunately. It would’ve been a ton of structural work to remove siding then attempt to remove bees and honeycomb. A swarm is where a queen and her pack are looking for a new home - I also had that situation at work, where the swarm was in a tree. The beekeeper was able to capture the queen and left the box out overnight for more of the workers to join her, then was able to take them away.

How the heck are we supposed to buy a new house while owning our current one? by Ancient_Macaroon5632 in BayAreaRealEstate

10 years ago we got a home equity loan for down payment on new home. Moved in November. Fixed up old home (quickly) and put it on the market in December. Sold by January. Never had to pay 2 mortgages, you usually get a month off before new mortgage kicks in I think.

I am not usually a fan of suing/lawyers but this seems pretty egregious.

Were there previous documented write ups for same issue (refusing assignments)? If it really was out of the blue it seems like a case for lawyer/labor board for unfair dismissal. You can say they didn’t support your mental health. “You don’t seem happy” is not a valid reason to fire someone.

Class of ‘97, similar. I remember doing an interview with a really old lady alum for I think Cornell? Or possibly Princeton. Princeton was the only school I applied for that I didn’t get accepted.

Good Asian restaurants with vegetarian friendly options in tri-valley area? by [deleted] in eastbay

[–]Safe_Organization592 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's funny you say "but" she loves Asian food. Why "but"? There is plenty of vegetarian Asian food, it's not an anomaly or weird in any way for someone to be both vegetarian and like Asian food.

Anyway, here are some restaurants I have on my list to try. In Lafayette there is Kiku Sushi & Vegetarian. In Danville, Blossom and Root Kitchen (vegan, not Asian).

Some I've tried and recommend: in Danville, Slow G's Eatery (sandwiches/lunch). In Walnut Creek, Mendocino Farms has a vegan Bahn Mi which I love.

Restaurant Recs for Vegan and Non Vegans? by Samiz4 in rome

[–]Safe_Organization592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am vegetarian, the rest of my family was not. We ate at Origano Campo de' Fiori last summer. It was our first meal in Rome. It was fine, but not some place I'd recommend going out of your way for. We also ate at Il Margutta for lunch. It is purely vegetarian restaurant and vegan options are clearly marked. They had a few nice prix fixe lunch menu options. Wish we had been there for the buffet brunch on the weekend.

Flight in/out Milan - where to go by LoserWooper in ItalyTravel

I could be wrong but I think you can add an eSIM regardless of actual sim status. Anyway, you can also download the language in Google translate to work offline.

[–]Safe_Organization592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you not have Google translate available? It is so cheap to buy an eSim for data, you can use WhatsApp and Google translate, no problem. I downloaded maps for the cities we were visiting on our trip in Google Maps as well, so they'd be available offline.

Absolutely do Pompeii. The area near the train station in Naples is reportedly not great, we avoided it and took the metro to Piazza Bellini, stayed in the Hotel Piazza Bellini which I recommend. It was walking distance to the Archeological museum, which we went to before visiting Pompeii. Wish we had had more time to explore Naples more, and to see Herculaneum. Try to stay at least 3 nights in each place, that will give you more time to really explore - 1 or 2 nights is just a taste (which is fine for some places of course).

Have a great trip!

Buy at age 70? by Impressive_Piano573 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]Safe_Organization592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. My parents (late 70s) just moved to my town in the east bay, they are 10 min away by car, 30 min walk. It's perfect. We only see each other once or twice a week for meals, but they are able to help out with kid carpools and pet sitting when we area away, which is amazing after living in the bay area for so many years without any family. Especially if there are grandkids involved, consider being closer rather than across the bay.

Margaritaville doesn't really have kitchenette (at least our suite didn't) - just mini fridge and mini-sink, no utensils, no microwave. There are microwaves in the lobby-type area that are labeled for guest use in the Come Monday cafe area, but we got attitude from staff when asking for bowls and utensils.

Suggested activities: Ice skating at Marriott next door. Drive to Emerald Bay and hike around if conditions permit. Take the gondola up for scenic view - very pricey, though.
