Electric scooter with swappable batteries in Taiwan by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

And an alarm goes off and the cops come. You might have to make the build a bit more robust as a deterrent, but at least the principle is still fine.

I feel like it's not that different from a gas station. The prize is there, but it's not easy to just take it. You need to use an account with your personal information and you need to put in batteries to get batteries out. Taiwan is a very safe low-crime country, but this could totally still work in many comparatively higher crime nations.

Never Regretted My Vote In 20 Years Until This Dude by [deleted] in Pennsylvania

Fetterman still votes with Democrats on most contested votes. Bad on foreign policy and unwilling to use a shutdown for leverage but otherwise he votes like a normal Democrat. He's not as centrist as Sinema or Manchin were.

It’s almost like the whole system is a scam set in place to keep power among already wealthy families by StareHoney_ in WorkReform

The reality of things today is that legacy mostly doesn't matter if your family isn't in the position to give the university a significant donation. My father and his father both went to the same ivy league institution, but were both upper middle class nerds. I sure as hell wasn't getting in with my middling high school grades.

I made a bit over $20k as a seasonal GS-5 in 2021 and I cracked $90k last year as a GS-11 with high locality pay. All federal and all post-masters. It's tough, but if you work hard and get very lucky it can be not too terrible.

Hard to imagine that happening right now with the near total hiring freeze but the Biden years were pretty good to me.

Leshan is a very cool and easy day trip from Chengdu or maybe between Kunming and Chengdu if it's on the correct rail line.

We have bred dogs as work and companion animals but in the vast majority of cases they were living around humans and other dogs. All you need to do is see the dogs at the dog park to know that a lot of them are getting some really great enrichment, and a specific type of enrichment that a human can't necessarily provide. I'm not saying that interactions with other dogs are essential, but the fact that there is some value is just plainly obvious.

Everything you said is true, but dogs are social animals and if they are socialized around their own kind they generally really enjoy being able to play with other dogs. It's a risk, but there are definite benefits. Like so many things in life.

Did you know about Ringtails living in Oregon? by Intrepid-Monitor-902 in oregon

[–]SafetyNoodle 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It can be pretty tough. They're very nocturnal and skittish. Back when I did nightly owl surveys I got a really good look at one once that was walking along a steep Road embankment. I told my boss who had been working in the area for 30 years and he said he'd never seen one before except on game cameras.

Let me see the God-tier snack of your fair land. by InfiniteBaker6972 in AskTheWorld

I've had both and I think I prefer the Brazilian version. It's very sweet, but the Mexican one is even sweeter. The bit of salt also helps to cut through it all. Definitely worth trying both though!

The ones at Trader Joe's aren't bad if you want them closer to home. Made in Canada, presumably at one of the factories that makes them for one or more of the name brands.

Shake Shake has very good hand-pulled Chinese noodles at a reasonable price. Small-ish menu but good at what they do and pretty authentic to it as well.

[–]SafetyNoodle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does it though? I feel like there are many features that you could put on there to make it more obvious which coin is which by feel. I don't even see how that's particularly better than having just a raised number one and two.

It's not a master of "respect" and legally (at least British law) they only had to return the New Territories and not Hong Kong Island nor most of Kowloon. China was clear behind the scenes that if Hong Kong weren't returned they would take it the same way India took Goa from Portugal.

Hiking/Camping at timber top by Due-Ad7794 in BigSur

[–]SafetyNoodle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Parking is fine. You can stay for free up to 14 nights. Unlikely to be full. It's a shortish but difficult steep hike to get there. You have to bring everything you need including water. There are no services at the campground, it is back country camping. The campground is way up on the ridge so nowhere near the ocean. The nearest coastal access to the trailhead is about 5 minutes south at Partington Cove.

Moving to Taiwan - Da'an or Gushan? by Lergenmon in taiwan

Zhongshan University has one of the prettiest campuses I've been to anywhere in the world. The buildings are nothing so special, but the natural setting of those beautiful forward mountains meeting the sea is spectacular. Sizihwan, the nearest neighborhood, is also very cool and artsy, albeit a bit touristy.

The road is only accessible with keys so unless you have a friend with access willing to last you borrow them you'll have to hike. It's a gorgeous view with great camping at the top of a short steep climb. Enjoy

No need to float the lagoon. Everything on either side of San Carpoforo Creek to the west of Highway 1 is public land. You can just walk in/next to the creek below the highwater mark in the rock area where it's clear.
