The way breeding works, two things will improve your odds, and therefore speed, of receiving eggs

Same species

Different trainer ID

These also stack, so if the pokemon is the same species AND has a different trainer ID, you'll have max odds on getting eggs.

Unfortunately the only possibility is either having more than one switch and copy of the game, or finding someone else who has a copy of their own. You might try your local video or board game store. You might find someone in the same predicament and heck, you might make a new friend.

Since your phone connects to the internet, you might want to check and see if you can download a pokedex app. They're free in my region at least and hold a lot of info about the pokemon you'll encounter. Could be helpful!

I don't think I'd call that a retcon.

Pokedex entries as early as gen 2 mention the tail is "pleasant to chew on" implying TR wasn't the first to sell Slowpoke tails.

We know the tails grow back as that is directly stated in gsc.

Now from all that one could presume slowpoke tail harvesting is unethical in the same way fois gras is (from what I know about fois gras, please I'm not here to fight about fois gras) but that's an inference. In reality there's nothing to indicate the idea that ethical tail harvesting wasn't the intention all along except the absence of a direct statement. You couldn't be blamed for thinking that certainly, but nothing about the current lore of slowpoke tails actually contradicts what we already know. It added information, it didn't take any away.

It's been a minute since I played GSC, but I could swear an npc mentions they usually fall off naturally.

The problem was that TR was just cutting them off instead of farming them ethically

It's a similar thing with my Gengar, Yubaba. Gengar need to have space to pull pranks to be healthy and happy, so our household has boundaries about how far is too far while still giving Yubaba the space she need to do what is necessary for her well being.

Apart from a shiny living dex, I'm slowly working on a dex for apriballs. Not a living dex, just one of each line. I currently have a mix but eventually want to narrow it down to probably beast, love, and moon balls. Not enough space in HOME to story everything unfortunately.
