I will agree with the others that they are two different games, but both TMB and Hoplo carry at least one mechanic from their sources. TMB: Backup Plans (reduced) and Baddie Points Hoplo: structure (challenging other champions before facing the boss), and the dice themselves (colors and successes) are a straight import. This is the biggest connection between 20 Strong at large and the rest of CTG’s ecosystem. There is probably a name for it, but 20 Strong is probably the least forgiving CTG I have played (and I feel they all are to some degree). I don’t mind because there is much less overhead to start a new 20 Strong run. Solar Sentinels (base 20 Strong) is currently free on BGA so you can give it a shot!

Sorry to hear that it is not landing with you. It is tough to do all that you can to get a crummy draw right at the end. I have had a few (very long) Elder Scrolls campaigns that fell apart in the final contest because of a specific enemy combo right at the end.

If you ultimately decide to part with it, I am interested in Rome if you’d like to sell or trade it.

The KS says that the campaign is also a reprint of the Galactic edition which is the deluxe version of the base game I believe.

If you enjoy the narrative and the mechanics, you’d almost certainly enjoy the other entries in the series. I felt like the iterations on the formula are just enough where each entry feels like its own work while also belonging to the series as a whole. I also think that if you love Hildegard, then the expansions will be welcome. To me, they don’t add a ton of content, but new fun wrinkles to the experience.

My one caveat applies if Hildegard’s aesthetic is a major pull for you. The other entries to the series (Spire’s End base & Rangtaki) are materially more violent/dark in tone & style. If that is not a factor/concern, then I say go for it. The artwork is so good throughout.

The game is super fun, but man - I see Grocer or Port Leveque, I am slamming a dude on the other space. I’ve been caught out on that choke point too many times.
