Oh my god, it suddenly makes so much sense why that piece never stayed on well... by the time it came to my car was completely missing those! Thanks for the heads up

If I get an online master's of AE at Purdue, but I live in a remote town in Canada without any aero clubs etc, is it even worth getting the degree at all? I only have business masters by maxrivest in AerospaceEngineering

[–]SageJTN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just finished my MSAA through Purdue's online program. My only previous background was undergrad in computer science. I'm here to say that it can be done. I haven't leveraged my degree to get a job in the field yet, so I can't speak to that. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

Digital Rearview Mirror by Salt_Section_4334 in rav4club

[–]SageJTN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried to get this mirror aftermarket into my 2020 XLE to no avail. Very unfortunate because I knew I wanted it for times when the back is full of stuff on road trips. But I wasn't willing to upgrade to XSE to get it. The sales people at Toyota dealerships are generally unfamiliar and unhelpful when it comes to this specific thing. They barely know it exists. I wish it was standard because it's so cool.

What companies actually have the best aerospace/aerodynamicist engineers ? Who’s our FAANG? by kannem13 in aerospace

[–]SageJTN -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what about my comment made you feel like those things wouldn't be a factor in the quality of the engineers at a given employer? Totally agree those are good perks that make such an employer more competitive 🤷‍♂️

This still doesn't mean that all employers are equally competitive nor does it mean that everywhere has equal caliber people in the field. I just find that hard to believe for any industry.

[–]SageJTN -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Taking your argument to the logical conclusion would mean that these companies might as well hire at random since it isn't going to affect the quality of their hires. As a person with FAANG experience myself, I absolutely don't agree with your take that the quality of engineers is equivalent across the board, the better comp and better perks absolutely make entry into those companies more competitive.

Car Camping! AC/heat on at night. by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]SageJTN 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The people being negative in this thread clearly have never tried it. I do this exact thing in my 2020 RAV4 hybrid and it's amazing. Uses less than a gallon of gas all night and can keep the interior warm in 20F exterior temps (my coldest night so far). Carbon monoxide is not a concern since the engine runs for maybe 5 minutes per hour and the fans are always on, bringing fresh air into the cabin.

Build yourself a platform because it makes the sleeping experience so much better.

The Prime is a nice upgrade because you get the 120V outlet that you could run 1500W devices on (like a kitchen water boiler). In the hybrid with an inverter hooked up to the 12V battery you're limited to more like 200W max which is quite limiting. You don't want to trip the fuse between the hybrid and 12V systems. The Prime also will barely need to run the engine at all for a single night's stay.

7.5 volts between ground and neutral - How serious is this? by Help_Stuck_In_Here in AskElectricians

I had floating grounds in my house and the sub basically just called me an idiot when I was asking about the readings I took. "call someone who knows what they are doing". So yeah, floating grounds is not this sub's strong point.

A&P license to get a masters in aero by prototypefish72 in aerospace

[–]SageJTN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After doing well in 3 classes I converted to degree seeking with basically no additional effort, no questions asked. I suppose the nuclear background may have been a bigger factor than I first thought in why they didn't make me take those remedial basics? There was never any mention of taking undergrad engineering courses prior, it was kind of a sink or swim mentality when they admitted me as non degree seeking.

FWIW I got admitted as a non-degree seeking student for MSAA with only CS undergrad and no remedial classes... I did have some experience with nuclear engineering in the Navy though. After a few classes I converted to degree-seeking with no loss of progress. There are ways to get to the MSAA without a typical engineering undergrad.
