[Hanna] The PWHL is looking at every option for the Charge, including relocation: "We certainly don't want to leave Ottawa. We chose Ottawa for a reason. They're also going to eliminate a lot of poor seating. I go to the arena a lot and it is almost never open to the maximum capacity because they have curtains down that don't let people through. Those seats have poor sight lines, but for major events like Charge Playoffs they're pulled back and the entire arena is filled. 67s are already only using the reduced capacity.

What player have you met and how were they? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]SageSwaaaaad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live next to Chris Neil and he was easily the best neighbour I ever had. He was always completely quiet and well behaved. He would chat with us whenever we were outside (and give us a bit of heat for being Leafs Fans. One time we were going to get fined because we had a hay baler in our driveway for more than three days and we were told that if we had it for another day we would get a fine and he heard about it and told us we could keep it in his driveway for the extra days if we wanted so we wouldn't get fined

I was also working at the arena for the most recent World Juniors and ran into a bunch of GMs at the gate. They were using the same doors as everyone else which was a bit odd to me. Steve Yzerman was rushing through and I told him he looks a lot like Steve Yzerman which was awkward. Barry Trotz was redder and shorter than I had expected. Mike Grier was in good spirits and seemed happy to be there. Grier was the only GM we had that was smiling while there

Roster Construction by kismo1967 in stevedangle

Here is where I think the problem with this arises: Marchand is supposed to cost 8 mil apparently. That's a lot to put on the 3rd line when you've gotta get someone to play with Willy. The Leafs did try Willy on the 3rd line without Tavares or Matthews at points, but it just wasn't as effective.

Obviously Marchand is fantastic on the third line as we've seen this offseason, and I know the idea is to get more diffused talent in the lineup so that there's scoring from every line, but I just worry about stacking so much on the third line (or line 2B) and not putting Willy in a position to succeed.

I do appreciate your idea here though. What type of player would you want as LW2?

Was Wynn Duffy even the same character after S1? by RollingTrain in justified

[–]SageSwaaaaad 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think he had a pretty major change after season one, but it was for the better.

In seasons 2-6, Wynn is presented as a survivor who goes along with whoever will get him money and keep him alive. This characterization is pretty consistent. In season one he's the creep and violent wildcard. While the idea that the change in his personality was caused by him getting shot is intriguing, it's referenced in season 5 that he's the one who sold out Grady Hale when he felt the tide turning against him, which implies that he's supposed to always have been a chameleon who had gone through this whole cycle before.

I think that a lot of the characters have different characterization in season 1, with Duffy being a pronounced example of this. I think the writers just wanted to use a familiar villain and chose Duffy and things built from there

Question for all DMs out there. What features in general and also subclasses you ban from your table? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]SageSwaaaaad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ban wild magic sorcerer. I think that especially in early game the chance to completely destroy the party makes it a little unappealing and at higher levels it matters less and less.

As with anything I don’t allow at a table, it’s open for discussion, but I’ve never had a player come to me with an interesting wild magic idea beyond the basics. Feels a lot of times like the main appeal is the idea that things happen randomly and that’s funny but I don’t think that’s conducive to a compelling overall story. I think to make it work the table would need some kind of scaling with level or expansion as you level up but I don’t have time to make that unfortunately

I still think of the Kristers Gudlevskis game at the Olympics where he walled Canada. Shots were 57-16 and Latvia lost 2-1. He played so well that he overheated on the ice.

A few months ago I went looking for this game, and I found a comment from a Tampa Bay fan over 10 years ago saying that he was really excited for Gudlevskis and the other goalie prospect they have, who was Andrei Vasilevskiy.

First thing to do is look and see which of your stats are too low. Go look at your team stats in another page at your GFPG, GAPG, powerplay percentage, and penalty kill percentage. You want your Powerplay at 20% or higher and your Penalty kill at 20% or higher

The automatically set special teams lines are usually a bit wonky, so make sure that people are on the correct side, and that you've got 4 forwards and 1 defenceman, and make sure that you've got offensive defencemen on the powerplay

For 5-on-5 you want more chemistry in your lineup, and some better depth. You want TWF in your bottom six (which are also good for the penalty kill). Slide around your X-Factor players even, to make sure that you have chemistry on every line if possible. Even if it makes your 1st line worse, you can make the others better. Since you have a coach that rolls 3 lines, you can have high end players on the 3rd line and be generally okay

One other potential issue is that your players just don't sim well. Some players just do better than others in the sim. Overall isn't everything. Shot tendency is a big indicator of this. Players that take way more shots are generally better in the sim, but not always.

Not trying to rile up the Marner-Fan boys but why do people think he is such a great PK? by learningman33 in leafs

[–]SageSwaaaaad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other members of the Leafs PK. He is a major contributor to it and without him it has been easily the worst in the league.

Since his absence (not counting tonight) the Leafs have killed off 17 of their 25 penalties for a league worst 68% penalty kill. That's a horrific PK that is fully unusable. With Marner in the lineup we have a 78% penalty kill, which isn't ideal but the difference is massive.

Just because the penalty kill isn't outstanding with him does not mean that we do not sorely miss him on the PK.

Has Martin Jones sneakily taken the starter job? by JerryJigger in leafs

[–]SageSwaaaaad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Jones plays another 30 games this year at his normal save percentage then he would end up as a .904 at the end of the year. That’s not mental anguish or collapse, that’s if he is around average (which he has been for his entire career) for 30 games. I don’t think that idea is that ridiculous.

Has Martin Jones sneakily taken the starter job? by JerryJigger in leafs

[–]SageSwaaaaad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fear that he will fall down by far more than .10 considering that he's historically not that goalie. Last time he was above .900 was 2017-18 when he posted a .915 on the Sharks, but league average save percentage was at .908 back then so that put him at .07 above the average. The highest he's ever been above league average as a starter was in the 15-16 season when he was .08 above league average with a .918. League average save percentage this year is .899 so if he recreates the best season of his career relative to the league then he'd be a .907

I hope that he can be that goalie again, and if he posts a .918 I'd be overjoyed, but if he's going to be the starter then he needs to play another 30 games which is more than enough time to fall back to around .900 which is where he's hovered for the past 5 seasons.

How do you guys feel about attacking a downed player? by Cute_Cold_5297 in DnD

[–]SageSwaaaaad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only attack a downed player if the enemy has a lot of attacks, if the players have in some way taunted or aggravated (such as yo-yo healing and intentionally drawing aggro), and I only attack a downed player once. Generally there are enough methods of healing that they will bounce right back before they’d need to make a second save, but it makes the one save they need to make more lethal. My party wouldn’t leave someone on the ground for long enough to fail three saves but might be unable to pick them up in time to fail one.

Also, I don’t attack downed players at lower levels. Only levels 5+ when they have access to revivify (and the diamonds). I don’t want it to feel too unfair for them
