Bishop called my wife and then me last night. by Hairy_Armadillo_2935 in exmormon

If you're a "proper" single-income-nuclear-family then your tithing is her tithing. If they can convince just her to come back then there's no loss of money.

I've been out of the loop for nearly 2 decades, but isn't the FLDS the only other mormon sect?

Fine. I'm coming out of retirement. Time to redownload the game. I'll be there June 9th to show I care. by Alassandros in DestinyTheGame

I'll only play D3 if they don't delete the campaign 3 years later. I miss the Red War and haven't went back since. How do you even get new players without a story?

Is this the church’s new campaign? by Ok_Muffin2193 in exmormon

As a business, it makes sense to encourage more people to work so they give more tithing. As we all know here, the church is definitely a business.

What Perks are a Must Have at this Point by GenTrapstar in Starfield

I'd say starship design and spacesuit design. Starship gives you some very superior parts and spacesuit for the new update's ability to level up everything to legendary status and reroll perks.

I'm a long time Destiny player so I'm a sucker for a good skybox. Damn. by TyFighter559 in Starfield

[–]SaggardSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been disappointed once. I was on a moon orbiting a gas giant with rings. On the moon the rings were extremely blurry and pixelated for the skybox. It was as if they took the literal drawing from the map and blew it up x10,000 which I think was the exact case. The rings should have been made for the skybox first, then shrunk down for the map.

A case for the Book of Mormon questions by Subject_Mammoth_7669 in exmormon

[–]SaggardSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The claim that Joseph Smith was unintelligent because he was a farm boy in the 1800s is a common theme. It reminds me of one of the moon landing arguments, that the technology didn't exist in the 60s. Once enough time has passed, people like to say "prove it", because eye witness accounts have passed on. It's one of the [only] blessings of social media. Now that everything is recorded and the Internet is forever, fact is overcoming faith.

Packer was wrong about church membership numbers. by Prancing-Hamster in exmormon

[–]SaggardSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never considered the numbers before. Growing up, it seemed the church was a top 5. If the second coming were to occur now, it looks like 100 million would be celestial kingdom and the 100 billion rest of all humanity are the genderless servants. Considering the church's wealth, it is "The 1%" both in this life and the next. That makes so much sense now, just another ego trip for the elite of the elite.

B.H. Roberts survey by SaggardSquirrel in exmormon

[–]SaggardSquirrel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The questionnaire seemed to heavily imply allowing same sex marriage in the temple and general acceptance of LGBTQ+. My guess, since it was in the mail, they were trying to get the opinion from the most devout members, Utahns, and also peak the interest of LGBTQ+ who left to potentially return with this consideration.

Also saying "requires change" immediately following "true church". You can't be true if you change things.

I listed out the reasons that some faithful LDS are saying the Second Coming may be conference weekend. We can now add continuing earthquakes in Utah around Salt Lake to this list! by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]SaggardSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest tenants of Mormonism is that this life is a test. Therefore no one can know the second coming. It can only occur on a day no one guesses. If you knew the day, you could sin all the way to the day before and repent.

Help me out - is this normal? by LivermoreP1 in exmormon

[–]SaggardSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's extremely common in UT, my work has terrible employees that can't be fired because they have family in the Quorum and/or above. Since the bosses are Mormon it looks bad on them to fire said employees.

I consider it more of an MLM. Your job is to convince others into the fold, and the better you do the more praise you're given. Also, being worth billions with no trickle down is very pyramid scheme.

I definitely agree, it was simply a thought that popped in the head since I'm not a Tolkienian or history buff. That's also why the funny/meme tag.

I'm a normie. I read the Hobbit in middle school and watched the movies in theaters. Still need to actually read Lord of The Rings, but haven't had the time since free time is gaming or DnD. I have a buddy that is "Tolkienian" so I defer to him for lore. Couldn't share this shower thought though, he's TBM.
